  1. i would probably say to get a second opinion if you're really keen on the car. if you're not, or if the second test comes back bad, WALK AWAY!! the last thing you want is to buy a Skyline that you know is going to need work, its not cheap. and those that say it is cheap are lying.
  2. yeah exactly right, when i had my cat taken off and a decat put on the tune was very lean and the car made 260rwkw on the same boost, which was down from 285rwkw with the cat, but with a little tweaking of the Nistune to correct the mixtures. the car was able to make 320rwkw with an extra pound of boost. i went to a decat because my cat was restricting flow because the guts of it had come loose and was moving around in there. if you got an aftermarket ECU get it retuned, if its stock. then maybe the extra flow is just too much for the ecu to handle?
  3. put me down, i'm keen
  4. i'm up for a cruise, havent been on one in a long time PM me please cheers
  5. yep, sounds like the turbo blew. mine did the exact same thing as this guy. put my foot down, started to boost then a loud bang, a lot of smoke, enough to cover a few lanes of the road. then it drove like a N/A car 50 metres to the house. garaged it then had the turbo's done. the mechanic found the exhaust wheel in front of the cat.
  6. i am sure that hot fuel is the worst of everyones worries. i doubt it would do much more for performance than an air freshener would. save your money!
  7. there is nothing wrong with running a std airbox on a GTR, i am running over 300rwkw in my GTR, i wouldnt want to change to a Hot Air intake (aka pods) when running 18psi.
  8. are these green or pink label?
  9. ive got a r32 GTR with trust front pipes, not sure on the diameter? but its around 2.25 ot 2.5" to a 3"decat and a 3" custom cat back with one 3.5" muffler, which is the oval type, not sure about the brand off the top of my head? all stailness too but its quiet in low to mid range, but in top end it screams. never had any issues from the cops with it being too loud, its a deeper note than with a cannon. i got 319rwkw @ 18psi so 3" is okay for over 300kw, maybe not totally ideal?? but it does the job and keeps the sound low.
  10. cant agree more!
  11. thanks!! yeah, i know there are things i can do to gain more power. GTR's are an awesome car to mod, and huge power can be achieved. but i am at a point now where i wanted to be since i first got the car, and that was to build a 300rwkw street car. now i have it, but its come at a pretty big cost. motor rebuild, turbos, ecu, injectors, fuel pump, etc the list goes on, i've spent a lot of money and to finally achieve the power level i wanted is great. and i also have upgraded tyres, rims and suspension. who know's maybe down the track i might still want to empty my wallet into the car, but for now i am going to enjoy it. and i just gotta say it, horay for Nissans!! GTR's really do deliver on being an awesome car from stock that has potential to become a real serious street machine. i f ing love my GTR!!
  12. hey guys! i got the car dyno'd yesterday. we took the cat off and replaced with a decat. the car made less power initially because the tune was out, it made 260rwkw instead of 285rwkw then after a little bit of tweaking to the fuel maps the car was back on 285rwkw with better turbo response. but we noticed the smell of fuel from the engine, we noticed that the injector o-rings were being blown out by the boost, so we had to put some spacers on the injectors to hold the o-rings in there tighter, after that the tune was out again. but with more fiddling the car made over 300rwkw. the boost was turned up and it peaked at 19psi then came down and hovered around 18psi. i'm runing a bleed valve. it is now making consistently over 300rwkw with better response. the best run hit 319rwkw. very happy with it. thanks for your help guys. the car is very fast now,
  13. i got stock r32 dumps from my GTR, PM me with your price
  14. i got the 3 inch exhaust done when i first bought the car. the old one needed replacing because it had holes, i got a 3inch stainless chucked on. i was told by the guys at the exhaust place that even if i had a 3.5 cat back it would still only flow as much as the front pipe would let it. and if the front pipe when the two connect only is a 3 inch it would only flow as much as the smallest diameter in the exhaust.
  15. i've got the car booked in for a couple weeks time to be tested on the dyno again! we're planning on doing another run with the cat on to see if there is any difference because of the weather. then another run without the cat. should know for sure then what is wrong. i have also bought a Decat pipe for cheap to replace the cat if its stuffed. just to clarify a 3in exhaust should flow enough to get within the 300-350rwkw mark? i'm also looking at getting an EBC in the future as my mechanic told me that he wouldnt want to run much more boost without a proper controller in place to hold the boost level steady. another side note, what will my std R32 GTR AFM's max out at?
  16. why do people bag Walbro pumps? i put one in my car when i had the injectors upgraded, the GTR was obviously tunned because the injectors were upgraded. i was advised by my mechanic who is quite reputable here in Adelaide that there really isnt any difference in the pumps, appart from the Bosch one being louder.
  17. hey guys, i was just wanting to know from any of your experiences whether i need to replace my cat converter or whether it is still okay? my problem is i had my car dyno tuned by a reputable tuner here in Adelaide, and the car fell short of what we were expecting powerwise. the car is a 89 R32 GTR and has the following mods, Prior to TUNE fully rebuilt engine 2860-5's full 3inch exhaust incl front and dump pipes 3in cat (magnaflow) metal core K&N pannel filter in stock air box PARTS ADDED ON WHEN TUNED Nistune ECU Walbro fuel pump 660cc injectors Bleed Valve it was running 250rwkw runing 13psi boost prior to the tune. the tune was done on my birthday in early february and it was a 37 degree day, i didnt think it would be too bad, tune the car in the worst conditions then i wouldnt have any issues with the engine detonating in hot weather. the tuner was only able to have the car make 285rwkw runing 17psi boost, which still does feel pretty damn fast. but he did say that when he tried to up the boost a little more to 18psi there was no difference in power, he thought that there might've been a flow issue, so he opened up the stock airbox, and did a run to see if the air filter was contributing and it made no difference. he suggested that the cat converter might be blocked or not flowing very well. he couldn't check the cat on the day as it was hot from the dyno runs. i took the car to an exhaust shop shortly after and had the cat dropped out and checked, the inside was all covered in carbon but it still looked to be in one piece, the metal core looked to be in good condition, the only thing was that the core was moving around in the cat, the part that attached the core to the casing had either broken or melted, so the core moves a couple millimetres within the cat. i am just wondering whether anyone has experienced similar things with their metal cats. i know the ceramic ones tend to breakup or melt but the metal ones are much more sturdy. i've attached the dyno sheets of the 2 different tunes, is the wavy line in the 285rwkw one due to flow in top end? _250rwkw____13psi.pdf _285rwkw____17psi.pdf
  18. hey Rob, i got the same issue with my GTR, same Tien Super Streets. i just try to get it as close as i can to all even. but then i called a suspension place and they told me that even if the corners vary 10mm it doesnt really make much of a difference to the daily driving of the car. even stock suspension shows up these differences in height. if the handling is rubbish then do something about it. but coilovers are more toruble than they're worth, if you spend more time jacking the car up and changing the ride height than driving it you're wasting your time. you can come round and check mine out next time you're over. BTW i just got my Nistune, injectors and pump. pushing out 285rwkw @17psi on a 37 degree day!! its really fast now!!
  19. mine does this too, only at low speed when taking off around a corner. has anyone discovered what it could be?
  20. you own a GTR, what costs as little as $200 that will make any REAL power difference. it made a difference to how it sounded when on full boost, and it probably made some small difference in power. who really cares, it got done when i had the turbo's changed as most GTR owners do unless they got R34 dumps already. there are probably other things that it helps like flowing more gas and heat from the turbo's. i dont have dyno sheets to back my power up, just giving my honest opinion. if you wanna change your dump pipes you can, if you dont its not going to make a real difference. its just whether you want to spend the money or not.
  21. i got Mines dump pipes when i had my R32 turbos changed for 2860-5's. i dont think that the dump pipes really make much of a difference, the sound was a little different thats all really. i paid 350 second hand to have them installed along with my turbos. not too bad, but still not cheap. but at least it wasnt what they're asking for them brand new.
  22. i can vouch for garretts being the best choice for a street replacement on a budget. i would say go the -7's or -9's i've got -5's which are a little bit of overkill, i only got them because they were the ones that came available the soonest when my stockers blew the rear wheel off. the -7's or -9's would be better for response and still have plenty of power! i hope your mates car will be fine after he gets the turbo's replaced and doesnt have my luck and have the motor blow a week and a half after the new turbos are installed.
  23. if you're just doing street work there may be some baffle kit for the sump? i have a sump baffle and an oil restrictor on my GTR when i had my engine rebuilt. it works well for the street. and if you're not tracking the car, then i doubt you'd really need to be sitting on the rev limiter when driving it on the street.
  24. just go the K&N filter replacement for the box. i put a set of Trust pods on my GTR and all i get now is worse fuel ecconomy, no extra power (if it is hot you can really feel that the car is not performing as well as it did with the stock air box) and the only benefit if you call it that, is a little bit of suction noise and a psssh noise on gear changes. i am going to put my stock air box back in with the K&N filter that i washed not long ago. i didnt bother putting that oil on it as it can dirty the AFM's. but one thing i did notice last time i took the pods off the car is that there was nothing stuck in the foam, whereas when i have taken out the K&N panel filter there are bugs and all sorts of dirt and gunk stuck in it on the correct side of the filter. so it seems like its doing its job, which is to filter the air from bug guts and whatever else is floating around. and for power, slightly less cold air vs more hot air = better power in most cases.
