Superlap 2009 Gets A Green Light!
Roy replied to Superlap Australia's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Well i was back in Melb for 1 week and i got absolutely nothing done on the car. So it will be probably be running in its current state of disrepair rather than with its new bits. So looks like i will be happy with a 1:20, and stoked with a 1:18. Either way i just hope the car is solid for the long drive back to Melb. -
So take hime for a ride Riverdance or sell him your Bilsteins

LOL, hey when all we have is straws we have to hold onto them for dear life

Without getting carried away with all the expensive sensors and wiring which just add cost and weight you can get a good enough idea based on corner speeds and lap times to hopefully reinforce seat of the pants

Gee, you are a tough punter, the last two years have been pretty close championships wth plenty of good/memorable races and the right type of on track action. The cars may not look brilliant this year, but i will wait and see how they go in traffic and how it has mixed up the field. Hopefully teams like Williams, RBR and Toyota can start the season with a car that can give the established teams a shake for healthy points hauls .... But more then anything, how can you not be excited to watch how Webber stacks up against Vettel and how with 1yrs Mclaren experience under his belt will Heiki be able to do anything more then a mid field hack? He has been mumbling about needing the team support and knowing he was held back...was often quicker in quali etc so lets see if he is another DC/Button pre-season or if there is substance to it all...

Top RB20 Club... do you have over 260rwkw?
Roy replied to RBsileighty's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Looking at the 25G they normally make a bit more power then the 3040 but with similar response to 3037s so since there are already a few RB20s running GT30Rs....i figured i will give the bigger Truwst turbo a go. So not really interested, already paid for my 6boost manifold and have the turbos and gates so need to get it all sorted so i can sell the spare setup myself -

Roy replied to RBsileighty's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Well the manifold doesnt look like arriving in time, by the end of this week i was hoping to have back to back dyno sheets of: - my current TD06-20G setup vs current turbo with 6boost manifold vs TD06-20G with 6boot and 10cm housing vs TD06-25G with 6boost and 8cm housing I am betting the 20G with 10cm housing will be the best compromise but will be interesting. Either way i will have a spare turbo setup to sell It will have to wait until i get back from OS to play with as there is no way i am paying for all the labour associated with the stuffing around. The dyno time and tuning is going to make the back to back exercise expensive enough turboedsloth , did you get your boost issues sorted? I would love to piggy back any of your experience by getting some pics of your wastegate setup on the manifold -
Superlap 2009 Gets A Green Light!
Roy replied to Superlap Australia's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Nathan, what times did you end up doing? Its an RB25? What sort of grunt and suspension did it have. Looking at getting a feel for what i should be aiming for from a full weight GTSt at Oran Park on street tyres. I figure if i throw on semis then i am a fair chance of getting a similar time -
Which Caliper Kit? Grex, Alcon, Brembo?
Roy replied to johnsta2k's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Get yourself a budget and go hunting for an upgrade. The things that influence my caliper selections was firstly the availability and cost of replacement pads and also its important to remember that from time to time you will need replacement rotors as well. You can find some cheap calipers around the traps but check that they are a street caliper and not a competition caliper. There are differences in seals, and the pad types they use that can make an initial cheap purchase expensive. You are running a smidgen more power and weight then me and i have found a 324mm rotor to be just enough. I say just enough as stopping is fine, but lately i have found that the appetite for rotors to be too high so forget using DBA or anything of the like at the track. Try some Brembo / Stoptech / Alcon replacement rotors, more expensive but far bettr quality. Basically there is no cheap brake upgrade option -
Fuel consumption, lol the price you pay for having an 1100hp Z-Tune

How/what do you think of the Nismo mounts and their finctionality? -
Was thinking last night how in the hell did you not rip the guard to shreds and have the wheel do a runner and i figure because you run the uber brakes you do the caliper and rotor is only a few mm away from the wheel so the rotational energy in the wheel had it just banging around on the rotor. Was there any damage to the wheel or rotor/caliper

Man, apart from doing such events in 170hp Escorts which you drive flat everywhere and top out at a 160km/h...i woudl want a 4wd car, with nice supple suspension. Your car seemed nice and stable even though you were dipping wheels etc . Goes to show just how crazy old Jim Richards is insisting on using the GT2 for these events = MAD

Getting A Total Reach Around Over Race/rally Rego (qld)
Roy replied to Nismo_Boy's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
LOL, i have some interesting conversations about "grass roots" motorsport around camp fires in the bush with regards to making it accessible. It seems they want everybody out in the bush not on the black stuff. Which is strange since rallys require massive amounts of coordination with Parks and Wildlife, residents etc vs cash for track owners. I dont get it -
I think you will find that the foam in rails is an 60s and 70s thing, mostly from rallying. There was thinking that it helped with stiffness, but the main reason they did it was to keep mud and garbage out of the rails which over time would cause corrosion. Again it was noted to help the stifness by a bees dick but the other reason i know rally guys do it to the B and C pillars is to improve the acustics in the cabin and help the driver hear the navigator with pace note calls. It tones down the NVH from all the hollow spaces in the cabin

Getting A Total Reach Around Over Race/rally Rego (qld)
Roy replied to Nismo_Boy's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Here is the thing. I warned a friend about this early last year after hearing some CAMS guys telling me that the strings were going to get tightened. The Rally Reg was originally introduced so that cars that were not released locally could be raced in state and national rallies. ie EVOs and STIs etc. As others have said the cars needed to be registered for transport stages etc The rego type was never intended for people to be importing cars that can be complied and registered. The warning i got was if i get a race rally import, makes sure that the car isnt eligible to be complied. If that model can be complied then import it properly and get proper registration for it. So i dont agree with it, but i know that there were people complaining how some high profile tarmac cars should not be running rally rego and only dirt/gravel rally cars should be allowed to run this rego. So it seems there is people pushing agendas and its a matter of whether you are lucky enough to be talking with one of the for people rather then the against -
Hey, PM Salad or the Rogue or speak to Mick at Micolour or John/Tim at UAS. They should be able to look after you
