i'm sorry if you already knew this but you are awhere that the rb26 exhaust valves run very large clearances i believe because of the sodium find valves that exspand conciderable when they heat up. I found this out rebuilding the last two rb26 (R34,R33) the head shop thought the exhaust guides were gone but once we checked to factory tolerences we found that was how they were surpose to be setup quiet loose. pete

Personally neither of these manifolds match up to the hks manifolds as i bought a set and found the port oversize and didn’t line up properly and the turbo flange was way to big and i had to get a different gasket just get them to seal up even after i had them surface ground. So if you can find some second hand hks manifold they are worth every scent. If you can not afford hks unit i would look at the extrusion porting of the std manifolds. Pete

yeah the oil cooler system has a 72 deg thermostat (apexi unit) which has not been fitted yet. Does anyone know the std operating temp most oils work best with in? eg(60-120deg?) pete
-
the best two units are Garret gt2560r 707160-5 Hks 2530 I personally not very interested in the gt-ss as you loss top end with no real gains in the bottom end over the 2530 or gt2560r (personal opinion ) both direct bolt on and both very similar, if i had to pick the differences the garret will spool a little earlier and make a little more hp at lower boost BUT the HKS is capable of high boost and comes in to it own in this area but these not a lot of motors that will run 1.5 bar plus which is where i believe the HKS start to over come the garrets Racespec can supply the garret at a very good $$ much cheaper thean the hks unit new out of japan (comparing new with new) I have run the garret turbos through all the stages of my build up from std with exhaust 12.08 1/4 miles (std air box ,injectors, afms, ecu ) to 529.4rwhp at 20 psi pete

Hi Guys, I recently finished a full rebuild on my Gtr R33 and during the process i installed a low temp nismo thermostat 64deg (std 72deg) and greddy radiator 48mm and am about to fit a 19 row oil cooler with relocator and thermostat 72deg Apexi, but i have found that my old 82 deg normal operating temp has drop remarkable to around 68deg with out the oil cooler fitted yet. I oil temp still seems to rise over 70 degs while the water stay in the high 60's. Even with a/c on cruising in mid 30's heat the water temp never exceed 72degs. My question to you guys is this how cool is to cool oil and water temps. I'm currently not concern at the moment as oil temp is still quiet similar to before it's just water temp low but when the oil cooler goes on i dont want it running to cool and out of the working range of the oil. The reason for these changes are in track conditions oil temps can race sky would quiet quickly and i would the car to handle track work better and manage heat issues. I should also mention i am also running a 8.5 to 9 litre custom sump. pete

Hks T04z - Which Exhaust Housing Size?
pnblight replied to Blitz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
or Garret gt2560r x 2 (pretty similar results) i still am amazed none has tried to find out what the IHI turbos are on the Z-Tune personally i think the turbos nissan pick for there ultimate gtr after 15 year of development might be pretty damn good. pete ps if i wanted nasty street/drag twin gt2835 hks kit or twin gt3071r -
You must run the oil restrictor supplied with the hks gt-ss turbos as ball bearing turbo do not need any where the oil a bush bearing turbo does plus the restrictor helps to drop oil pressure on the oil seals after the restrictor. For example i have had to restrict the garret ball bearing turbos back to a restrictor 0.8mm as the garret turbos do not like oil pressure over 60psi and a good gtr cold will do that idling. pete

That one of the funniest thing i have read in ages, how we over look the simple things sometimes. Well all the best with the run in as i'm doing the same, up to 370kms now and everything looks sweet. pete B)

i know the gtr r32 with like a cat back exhaust at around 12psi will run about 12.4sec 1/4mile not quiet totally std but this would be the state most gtr would be in if healthy.

sent sump info i hope it helps sorry for the size of the file pete -
dude your no guinea pig i have worked the cams on like 6 different rb26 all have responded to timing some a little some a lot. The first of which was my own awhile back http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...=ST&f=8&t=48595 the least gained was still around 30rwhp with less than half the timing i had to put in mine. Each motor is different and dont always think that a little cam timing is different you may just be adjusting the cams to the correct relationship to crank as manufacturing tolerances can cause differences in this (we are talking small) but considering that 2 deg of crank timing (=1 deg of cam timing) gave me 30rwhp a small difference can be of great benefit Yes? pete
-
well i would most definitely put an adjustable cam gear for the inlet on the wish list and you can really adjust the sort of power you get and quiet offen (most chaces increase out right hp) with adjustment of the cam gears. the inlet tends to adjust how early the power will be made ie a little advance can quiet offen bring the whole power curve on earlier and the exhaust advance can offen give a bit better top end hp. I stress every motor is different but i have not seen a setup (rb26) not responce to cam timing in some fashion its offen only other factures that limit the gains that can be had for cam timing ie the turbos reached peak efficience etc pete
-
TURBOS before everything else the r32 are prone to turbo failure which CAN also cause engine damage(ceramic dusty in cylinder) then APEXI PFC i would put next and the intercooler about one of the last things you need (std rated at ~450rwhp)as mine has made 520rwhp plus for 2 year with a shitty looking std one and only just recently did i buy a 102mm biltz intercooler. Serious look around there have been a shit load of threads on mods for gtr

Jun 2.7l Stroker Build Underway (hks T04z)
pnblight replied to StageZilla's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Its a little off topic and you perfectly honest i would perfer to keep it on a bit more of a personally level as some of the info i have posted previously, no matter weather i back up with published documentation or what ever ends up getting to dedates/arguements etc, so if anyone is interested contact with your email address and i'll send you what i found out. pete -
M&M nice work and nice result for such low lift cams. I can personally say the HKS manifolds are the shit (awesome construction quality) and can i ask did you play with cam timing and if so what did you find to work the best. pete ps nice engine bay

BRAD send me your email address if you would like some pics and info on sump setups as recently been down that road and did quiet of bit of research into them. pete -
Well for street/track your handing in the wrong direction, a quick street car you want torque and good width in the power band and preferable a nice linear power delivery. To get through and out the other side of the corner as quickly as possible. A high revving car is not suited to track work and the only time i have really seen high revs used is drag, that is mainly to try and gain the max power from a engine plant for a short period. But still to do this you require some of the dearest engine components imaginable. If you were concidering a street/track rb20 i would personally try a rb24 combo rb20 with gtr crank and rods with tomei rb24 piston. This combo will actual produce as much or more torque than a rb25 because of the stoke and i believe in relation to other combos with quality forged pistons and upgraded rods (gtr) it would be the cheapest bang for buck going. pete

shit brad the company i have been using will offen do the same day drop off and pickup if i prebook a week or so out B) DUDE that is one nice list i only cringe at what it must of cost to put together as i know how much it cost for me to get my build together. Can i ask who you are using for the build and tune? and when you might have it on the road? pete -
Cool i do recomend the greedy radiator for r33 very nice unit and i also got the nismo 1.3 bar radiator cap and greedy top radiator hose, just have not fitted it yet. pete

brad out of interest what other components are you using? oil pump bearings etc cams interested in see the whole build picture as i just complete mine and got it running on the wkd woohoo (so far looks really good). -
Hi Nick, i got a Greedy radiator in mine and got the big girl running on the wkd woohoo would you like to post a pic or two, mine bolted straight in shroud and all. Its truely a beautiful piece of gear. i also got nismo low temp thermostat and 8.5 to 9litre oil capiacty without the oil cooler fitted yet and run temps in cool weather seem quiet low at moment but only dont like 40kms (68 to 72deg) Jagr33 you got your new turbos in yet and if so how did they shape up. pete
