  1. I can live without the LC; but i will be doing whatever is required to get the roundy roundy go fast bits back on full song.
  2. I have an Nissan AU GTR on order (Gun Metallic). Initially was for October delivery, then it was July, then it was somehow magically March. I think a lot of people have dropped off the order list...
  3. Do you mean for people who have signed/deposited contracts with Nissan? People buy imported cars all the time don't they, some of which may be special order (built back in country of orgin). I doubt all these new cars have price adjustments based on the FX rate. Is that common? If i had a signed contract with Nissan, i would not expect the price to increase. I am sure there are clauses in all such contracts where they would try it on though.
  4. This is pretty good too http://www.dragtimes.com/Nissan-GT-R-Timeslip-17059.html Not bad for just a retune alone, awesome stuff. 99mph half track, smokin..
  5. well, so much for the tranny thing being a "non issue"
  6. was there an actual diagnosis on what happened? - understand if you would rather not say (research takes time and money after all)
  7. There are hundreds if not thousands of posts about this on the North American and UK websites. That's where this crap is coming from. With this new type of box there is some ambiguity about what is a consumable (like a regular clutch may be) and what is not. I've tried to get a clear answer (from local Nissan suorces) and personally I couldn’t get one. If anyone knows I would like to hear it, but it's perhaps too early to know and that's fine. So there are some unknowns, and people might be a little concerned about it. Doesn't necessarily phase me but there is no point trying to whitewash reasonable concerns people may have when buying a $170k car.
  8. I think a lot of people are overreacting with this transmission issue sure - but also a lot of people are missing the critical point:- the manufacturer stance is this: you can't turn off traction control / use LC and expect to have a warranty (during the time it's turned off). Given most of the 0~100 times are based on using L/C, it's not a stretch that some people are confused. This is all mixed in with other factors like: some of the traditional "consumable" tranny consumables (such as a clutch) apprently cannot be replaced, you have to swap in a whole new box, at 1/3 the cost of the car. That's ridiculous, but I am assuming the aftermarket will take car of it and/or Nissan will change their stance on the box replacement thing in time. If not, i would throw my warranty in the garbage and go aftermarket anyway.
  9. A few mates are putting together a private hire at the Wakefield Park circuit (Goulburn NSW) for Wednesday November 19. The track has been booked and everyone is welcome, regardless of experience or vehicle you bring along. Anyone who has thought about trying circuit should consider this; there will be a bunch of people on-hand to show newbies the ropes. Wakefield Park is especially good for newbies as there are no walls (save the front straight) and LOTS off safe runoff areas. The cost will be between $160 and $220 for the day (depends on numbers) - this is a non-profit day, all costs are known and are just split equally amongst participants (costs can be seen on Wakefield Park Website). You will also need a Wakefield Park license which you can get on the day ($50 for 12 months) or CAMS L2S license. The track will be open all day, with guaranteed more track time than you could possibly use. We have about 5 places left so please PM me if you are interested or have questions! Be quick as we are capping the numbers for maximum uncongested track time. And oh yeah - there is NO SPEED LIMIT!
  10. I found this online http://bp2.blogger.com/_8MPCKJQzPA8/R1A8mE...sideBlueR35.jpg
  11. Here is a break down of the numbers on a GT-R contract (approx) Basic vehicle price $130k Dealer delivery $5k LCT $24k Stamp $7k Other on-roads $1k (rego/green slip etc) So about $167k or thereabouts on-road Personally I think it's a bargain Obviosuly you could buy someting much cheaper and be just as quick (or quicker) but that's another argument
  12. I believe the new GTR will not change down a gear if revs are too high. It sure looks like this gearbox issue has been overhyped; the one or two cars (which have required a new box) O/S were probably abused. It's a fair assumption. However there will be those who WILL seriously molest their cars (especially track oriented cars) so i hope the aftermarket will come to the party within a decent timeframe.
  13. Didnt one of the aussie motoring mags do a 1:07.92 with a new M3 recently? Based on that i would expect 1:05's from the GTR (at wakefield) or perhaps better.
  14. Yes a new box (for a worn clutch) does sound crazy. This is a new type of box, maybe a clutch replacement is a lot more involved? Maybe a stuffed clutch breaks other components in this type of box? Does anyone actually know? I don't think the sky is falling in but I need to know (appropximately) what major consumables cost to replace. I'm not going to drive this car to pick up a latte on Saturday morning whilst onlookers masterbate over it. This thing is going to be thrashed within an inch of its life (at the track) i expect consumables to wear out.
  15. So this is a new gearbox; the clutch (usually a non-warranty "consumable") is more integrated within a normally warrantable driveline component (the gearbox). Hence the ambiguity on this. I have no problem replacing a clutch outside of warranty, most people don't. Clutches CAN and DO wear out (at least with "NORMAL" gearboxes). It's part and parcel of owning a manual car (moreso high performance ones). Jeez the number of clutches i have been through.. Anyway what prospective R35 buyers should be asking, and potentially worried about, should we expect an R35 clutch to wear out eventually? (or any other box component really) AND WTF SHOULD WE DO IF IT DOES?? At this moment, it looks like the only fix is to slot in an entire new gearbox. A very expensive gearbox, somewhere in the order of $20k to $40k. Has ANYONE experience with these new style SMG gearboxes, has anyone pulled one apart? Probably not (yet). I expect the aftermarket would eventually figure this out, right? Or maybe Nissan will develop a compromise solution. I have a GTR on order, and if i dont get some clarity on this issue, i don't think i can go through with the purchase. At this stage, nobody really knows how much a replacement box will cost (well, Nissan AU can't tell me anyway, not yet).
  16. I may be interested. Why arent you going ahead?
  17. The problem as i see it: the USA guys are saying a) you can't easily (if at all) upgrade or replace clutch components separately and b) the whole box assembly costs something like $18kUS installed (which they are saying is the only option in case of even a "simple" clutch failure or being worn out). Surely they will wear out eventually, ignoring the assumption these guys in the USA are seriously abusing their cars, surely, as with all cars, things wear out eventually. Can anyone tell me how i could go about finding the replacement cost of this box for aussie people? Or even what the box would cost if i were to buy one in Japan? Or if anyone locally has pulled one of these boxes apart? Worst case scenario, extrapolating the US GTR price with the aussie dollar, a replacement box could be something like $30~$40k? Even $20k would be ridiculous. Shit even $10k for a clutch replacement would be stupid. An Evo ralliart box is less than $5k right? I understand these are somewhat new/tricky boxes, but this could be a deal clincher for a lot of people. I am not paying $20k to fix a stuffed clutch. Summary: i am happy to forgo warranty for the track; i expect things to break; but replacement cost is a factor
  18. That's the same with most supercars. Many, if not most, purpose built sports cars are never used as intended. They are rolling status symbols. Come to think of it i dont think many of those types would be seen dead in a Nissan anyway.
  19. Do you know how many have been ordered at Cambelltown? Also if you order via Dealer A, can you get servicing at Dealer B? I assume so but this car is a tad dfferent to normal Nissans i suppose, so you never know. (eit: i believe you can only get the cars serviced at propert certified GTR dealers right?)
  20. It seems dealers will be getting 3 cars per month from April. With Brookvale already taking *a few* orders that will push any new deliveries (post today) out to august/september next year. Does anyone know how many orders Cambelltown have taken thus far?
