Hey all, a friend needs some help (its posted on NS.com by him, but an answer here wouldn't go astray)
A mate's auto CA18DET S13 had its gearbox screw itself over. He was travelling on the Princes Highway normally until he stopped at a set of traffic lights, and when he accelerated, it wouldn't go over 40km/hr and was revving at around 5-6k rpm. When checked out, there were pieces of metal floating around in the gearbox fluid when his mechanic took the tray off. If possible, is there a cheapish way to fix this?
If it isn't an easy job, he's looking into getting an Auto -> Manual conversion, and was wondering where in the SE suburbs (he's around the Knox area) would it be good to source and carry out the conversion (preferable if they could source the parts and convert at the same place).
EDIT: Also, what would the cost be? He's been quoted $1650 (parts only, without labour) with a new clutch, and it's in Sunshine (!), and how long it's expected to take?
Thanks in advance
