Need 2 redesign my sound system, need sum help
riggaP replied to funkymonkey's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
Well a few mates have tried running the rears off the deck. One in particular has spent over $3k on equipment. When the volume is cranked right up (yes, it sounds amazing but...) the rears have to be faded to the point where they're almost turned off because they distort too much. The distortion is very subtle compared to everything else, but its so bloody annoying! I think I'm a bit fussy when it comes sound clarity. I would rather listen to a quiet high quality sound than an ordinary loud one. If its going to be loud it has to be crystal clear and perfectly balanced for me to enjoy it. I guess I'm a bit of a perfectionist. -

Yeah, but can you really be stuffed?? And how often are you gonna use it for inefficiency to be a problem? Like predator666 said, its a little more involved. You can buy voltage converters to hook the ps1 up from Jaycar I think. I dunno how much tho. One other thing, if you're after high quality sound amp the rears... -
I thought it was 8psi till it hits 4800 RPM then the boost solenoid opens it to 10psi... doesnt the factory boost gauge measure bar not psi??? I'm guessing :uh-huh:

Obviously the 'line will rip an M3/5 to bits with a bit of work.... But for a NA 3.2 litre engine to produce 252kw is nothing short of amazing! Its prolly the build quality that would own me. A black M3 with matching black leather interior, electric everthing.... EVERYTHING, a "standard" stereo that would put most maccas hangers to shame, 19 inch wheels (again "standard"), and the list goes on.... God I want one!!:uh-huh:

So he crashes into your car... and puts you and your best mate/gf in hosptial for 3 months.... It dont matter if you're pissed off, he'll be paying the medical bill off for the rest of his life!!!!

This is true, but doesnt that only happen when there is too much power being fed to the speakers and not too lillte? If your running HQ speakers off the deck, its the shitness of the amp in the deck that produces a dirty/distorted signal. The speakers just convert the dirty signal into sound while still performing under normal conditions...

This can be done. I'm planning to add a Creative Nomad Jukebox to my stereo soon. If you wanna keep it cheap and simple then you'll just have to plug the MD in whenever you want to use it. Just connect the MD player to the amps via the RCAs. Use the headphone socket on the MD and plug a PC audio cable into it (the one that runs from the sound card to the speakers, ie headphone jack at 1 end and 2 RCAs a the other). Disconnect the RCAs from the head unit and plug them into the PC lead. You might need to get a few RCA jack to socket converter thingys (bout $2 each at electronic shops). That should be about it. In effect, the MD becomes the head unit. Just plug the RCAs back into the head unit when you want CD/radio. I'm planning to set up a bracket in the centre console compartment to hold mine. The RCAs will come up through the bottom of the box and go to the amps and head unit. So all I'll have to do is just connect what I want, and its all tucked away neatly. A few things to remember: . If you have more than 1 RCA pre out one the head unit, you will lose fader control with the MD. . If you want to connect the MD to both amps you'll need RCA spliters/double adaptors (again, about $2 from elec shops). Make sure the right channels are connected to other right channels only and vice versa. . Does the sub amp have a built in crossover??? If not, dont connect the MD to the sub amp. . When you first play a MD, make sure the volume is right down low. The gain settings on the amp might not agree with the signal coming from the MD... but this should not be a problem. . This whole set up should only cost about $20-30 and take maybe 2 hours to install. I'm not sure of what quality of sound you'll get tho.

uLa32: Have you decided what your gonna do yet?? If I was in your shoes it would come down to which one was in overall better condition. At the end of the day they BOTH go really fu(kin hard!!!

In who's dreams?!?!?!?!

JimX: Do you know what specs the transmission oil should be?? Someone told me the performance of the trans oil should be suited to the engine oil. I've got Shell Helix Ultra (5W-40) in there at the moment. In the past few weeks the gear changes have become a bit "klunky". I was gonna change the oil to see if it has any effect. The car has done 96,000km if that helps.

this is a long shot but........

I found a pic... Its an '88 model with 3 speed auto... just in case anyone was wondering... -
Import one through a reputable importer. It'll be cheaper than a yard by far. I only used the yards to test drive a few. I got mine through J-Spec . My 93 R33 is one of the cleanest examples I've seen. When I had the windows tinted, the dude asked "Has the interior been redone?" This obviously made me feel nice and smug! Craig's only problem is that he gets very busy so things end up taking a week or so longer than it should. At the end of the day its the quality you're after not how long it takes. J-Spec will extend the service far beyond the call of duty also. They'll help install alarms, immobs, stereos, etc. They'll be able to get spare parts when you need them and also help install them.

Its an ideal run around and reasonable smooth ride. It will be good for about another 150,000km because most of the wear and tear stuff has been replaced in the last 18 months (ie fuel/water pumps, alternator, radiator tanks, power steering, brake master cylinder/rotors, shocks, and a few other things I can't think of right now). All the panels are straight and the interior is clean. It'll tow anything (more torque than a VL turbo!) I've been using it for work the past 3 years but now I just dont need it anymore. Its not the quickest car in the world, but at least its cheap to run. -
If its black I want it... let me know how much.
-
Hey all, I'm in the market for a R33 GTR front bar. Let me know if anyone has one.
-
You sure about the water pump being replaced??? My R33 had (well apparently had) the 100,000 service at 91,000 and the pump went at 96,000. How can you tell if its had the 100,000 service???
-
It might be worth opening it up yourself and having a look. You might find that its something simple (like a loose spring).
-
Sorry I disagree. If the speakers are there they may as wel produce the best sound possible. Every setup I've heard (while sitting in the front seat) with rears running off the deck produces this annoying (although very faint) distortion. It just sh1ts me.
-
The amps were 2 Fusion FP-402. Rears running off the deck (I don't like the idea of this). The dude said around $1200 to put the amps in the floor (including the amps) and subs in each corner with carpet over the top to make it look stock. If I can get the amps, what would you guys charge for a similar set up?
-
Did anyone have a bare stock 33 there?? If so what times did you pull?
-
JL audio ROCK! They're a higher end brand and are certainly not cheapies! It would almost be a miricle for you to blow those using the deck. At worst the speakers will distort.
-
Yes, the series 2 grills are heaps better. Your other option (if you can be stuffed) is to make another parcel shelf and use any aftermarket covers.
