Installing A Fuel Pressure Regulator
StealthX replied to simonthomasgoodwin's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
1) no. Turning the key to ACC will prime the system to the desired pressure. 2) yes. any increase in fuel pressure will (respectively) increase or decrease the amount of fuel going in. i.e. more pressure = more fuel. Why are you installing one anyway? Do you realise the stock one will do fine for up to 25+psi of boost?? -
Hey forum. Need some food for thought, I'm trying to weigh up the pros and cons of internal vs external gates. Problem is, I can't get my boost to ramp up quickly enough, without then creeping up from there. The best I can get is 10psi by just under 3k RPM - which is pretty lazy IMO (.86 disco potato on 2.5L QR25), then slight creep, but any less pretension and it doesn't make 10psi, and more and it makes more boost and creeps more. I've tried boost controller or not, a .5 and 1.0 bar actuator (using .5 bar one now), different pretensions etc... I have two options: put up with the internal gate, or hold the internal gate shut and install an external gate (the manifold I'm using has provisions for the external gate). Assuming all other variables are the same, what are the general pros and cons of the two types? The way I see it: External pros -finer, more accurate boost control -boost ramps harder -better turbine flow cons -expensive -space consuming -complex (more plumbing, space constraints etc.) Internal pros -cheap -simple cons -prone to creep -prone to fading (boost dropping off at high RPMs) -inaccurate (hard to hold a flat line) Anything else to add? Also, is there any merit at all of running an external gate on my set-up? I seem to think there is...

Impressive results dude! Is this motor an R33 25 or is it a neo? How have you found the Tial wastegate? I'm looking to buy one soon, would you recommend?

In. So long as you doods dont mind cruisin with a soccer mum's car... Good chance to put a face and a voice to the posts i.e. meet ppl

Well I'm definitely changing the manifold, cos I can then fit a 3" dump instead of the 2.5", and this manifold has an external WG port... It was just an idea for the sake of better boost control, external gates ramp boost harder and hold a flatter boost curve, I'm not interested in power gains from it and it won't be a screamer all the time, I was gonna get a recirc pipe made up too. But yeah, like I said, all this is taking a back seat till after new years so I've got till then to decide... I might save the $300 or so and use that on the fuel reg instead. I really wanted an external for the screamer, but that's pretty ricer, and it'll only get my car canaryed at the end of the day. Thanks for the input -

Hey doods Got my .86 rear housing on the turbo, makes a heap of difference!, it's much less choked, builds alot more power towards the top end now. Was a cvnt of a job though, caused me heaps of hassle getting that oil drain sealed again, tis sweet now though. Should be able to make some more power with a tune as well, theoretically there's room for some more ignition advance with the bigger housing, but I wont try that on the street, I've given it a touch up, it was a little rich down low with half throttle sorta thing, only needed a few points of fuel taken out.. The boost creep problem has been solved. Wastegate holds a flat 10psi all the way to redline, still buying an external one cos I want even better boost control, and play with a screamer hahah Couple more parts for the new manifold 'n sh!t. t3-t25 adapter flange: 0.7 and 0.8 bar springs. The others will come already in the wastegate when I buy it. So all I need now is the wastegate, then i can get cooking with the new stuff. For now it sits in my garage collecting dust till after new years... happy christmas! -
woah!!! p.s. rotas are shit. real wheels or bust IMO

thank fk it's gone hey! IM240 was a prime example of the government trying to be smart, and failing. "Oh yeah I'll just take my AWD car to KEC to get the test done, wait! ... They don't have an AWD dyno..."
-
agreed. Yeah we get it, but unless you're willing to go all out and make upwards of 500hp, its not going to be cost effective, nor is it going to be much better to drive than a well sized single turbo...
-
The IM240 testing regime has been ditched for about 4 months now, they are using the 5 gas test to pass cars now. If anyone has Zoom mag issue 146 (with the orange 764hp CA18 datto on the cover), read my 2 page article on pg 96/97 about it...

Nah man I think he's referring to a compund turbo set-up, not just a standard twin.
-
You'd need some pretty fancy exhaust work to make this happen. And using the stock turbos would be a waste of time, you'd barely see over 320hp at the wheels, with alot of f**king around. If you want to do this properly, I'd set it up like this: Small turbo with BIG (60mm+) wastegate leading into big turbo with smaller (Two 44mm) wastegate Two boost controllers (set the big one on the small turbo to ~10psi), then the small WG on the big turbo to 15-20psi Should net you about 400-500hp depending on the turbos and boost. -GT2560r ($1200) for the small turbo -GTx3076 or 3540 or similar ($1900-$2200) for the big turbo -custom manifold (at least $2000-$2500 including all the WG plumbing etc. Then add $ for the tuning and water/oil lines and not to mention all this wouldn't even be worth it on a standard motor. p.s. see this:

Can you explain why it's impossible to get a GT35 engineered on a 30? I dunno how similar the Vic rules are to WA, but in theory shouldn't he just need to pass emissions, ground clearance for exhaust and noise test?
-
LOL where did this stage 1 and 2 crap come from???
-
Is it just me, or is there a SH!TLOAD of bitching and ego bashing over a few peak and midrange HP (and a nanosecond in response) in this thread? IMO, HKS is full of wank. You are paying for a brand name.

Why'd you block off the BOV? FoR tHaT hEcTiC fLuTtEr NoIzZzZeS???

Yeah phuck him! Looks like he's gonna get what's coming to him! Good work Ash!

You can always tell a fake eBay product, look at the title, they make up those bogus item titles like "Tial Turbosmart Greddy 38mm v-band genuine" sorta thing... Go Tial. They are cheap and good quality, the yanks swear by them. The MVS (38mm watercooled) gates can be had for under $350 shipped so long as you can find an adapter for the v-band...

gt2560 turbos? are you sure they aren't 2860s?

cancel that, searched some more turns out you can't change the wallpaper on windows 7 starter... carry on...

Hey, noob here... Just bought a Samsung NF210 (one of the mini 10" laptops.) For the life of me I can't change the wallpaper!! The usual right click on the picture and "set as background" does nothing, and I can't find a settings box for the wallpaper either! It's got windows 7 starter... HELP!
