Out of curiosity, are the N/A 4dr and Turbo 4dr ones the same?
-
I do remember reading this, but other than your comments I have found that noone (at all, anywhere) has been able to confirm this anywhere, at all. Though I do recall you writing this up in your NA+T Thread. Is this extra ECU Disconnectable? Or should I just shell out and get a Manual GTT ECU? Will this cause problems with the box and shifting in general down the track? Just wondering whether the best option is to get a manual ECU, or try and bypass the shifting ECU and continuing to use the standard Turbo ECU As Nistune is a potential future option - Which is the best way to go here?

Hi All. I apologize in advance for: a) Lack of mechanical knowledge b) Lack of mechanical terminology c) Lack of the ability to create a proper disclaimer-apology-list. I own a skyline which has been off the road for almost 9 months now, at a very reputable shop in Melbourne. It was a NA+T (R34 GT Sedan) that has been decided the best course of action is to put in a GTT Engine. However, the car is an Automatic. Apparently this causes a massive issue for my mechanic as they seem to be rather stuck with how to proceed. The car is stuck in limp mode, and due to (reasons unknown to me, and them) they are unable to get a reading from the ECU to find out why. (it is a stock ecu) The only reasoning they can give is maybe the R34 N/A Triptronic has a different computer and setup to a R34 Turbo Triptronic Auto ECU. They are pretty much clutching at straws here when it comes to this, so I appeal to the gods of the internet to provide some insight or a link, or some documentation, or an olf wives' tale even as to the differences between the two gearboxes. Everything else has been replaced engine wise, so effectively they are trying to get a RB25DET Neo engine working with a R34 N/A Transmission (which has been updated with a MV Auto shift kit, if that helps any). All the wiring and loom has come from the turbo engine. Nothing else from the original N/A Car is connected. Anyone ever done this? Is it doable? WTF is going on here? Winning answer I will literally pay for a slab of beer to your most convienient location.

You should do what you like with your car, but I personally just threw up in my mouth.

This was a refreshing thing to read.

..it has simulator roots I'd love to see a simulator underground style game, with say, real items, and real results, taken from a billion dyno results from all these cars with different parts around the world... maybe in 2025.

+1 for this, I always use another parked car as a starting point... from there on it's all geometry.. put your faith in mathemetics and you will get in every time

+1 for epic books

iirc they get them from the same place sofias gets them.. which was suprisingly awesome given how terrible the food is From memory this was : http://www.marksqualitycakes.com.au/

It wasnt initially, its however (attempted)? to have been transplanted with bog stock everything (i.e, stock ecu, stock RB25det neo, looms from the GTT engine etc), except it all doesn't want to play nice. I was under the impression it would be easy to do so, so I agreed to it. Remember, I'm not mechanically minded at all (f**k, only had the car 2 months in my actual possession since I bought it about a year ago), so when a very well regarded places recommends replacing the entire engine with a stock one, with stock everything else to get it going it sounds drastic but I trusted that judgement. Obviously if I could go back in time, a lot of people would have made some very different decisions.

Not trying to argue (especially in such a light hearted wasteland thread) but whats the point of doing that, only to get done, and having to replace the aftermarket ECU with a legal one, placing me squarely in the same situation with additional cost As for the car being modified, it was originally probably f***ed beyond hope of any kind of fix. Infact it was. That's pretty much why I said remove everything in the damn car and replace it with everything factory. I used to have visions of burning the workshop down to claim it on insurance, but now that I cancelled that.. or rather chose not to renew the yearly payment yet.. I'll have to eliminate arson as a means of getting a working skyline, lol.

Yes. Unless it's going to pass an EPA (i.e Nistune?) then I don't want it.. otherwise I'd be in this situation one day when someone goes OLOLOLO AFTERMARKET ECUS!!! JOO MUST REPLACE!! (I am sure EPA representatives speak like this) I did ask if Nistune would work, but was advised that it wouldn't be able fix the issue by just tricking the car into ignoring niggly crap. That said, the shop doesn't do Nistune. So it'd have to be towed somewhere else. That's pretty much what is going to happen if they do throw their hands up in the air and declare it an impossible job.

Very very well known place. Well enough that if I named it I'm sure everyone would think I'm blatantly lying... I did initially call Knox autos. They told me they don't touch the R34 Triptronic system in terms of adding a shift kit to it, though they were happy to service one etc, or provide upgrades for 33, 32, but no valve body upgrades for the Triptronic from them. Hence, MV Autos in SA. I'm not that savvy, all I am is adept with lurking these forums and /search. I've been told the issues are due to the R34 NA and Turbo being wildly different behind the scenes, they can't actually get the car going well enough to get a reading from the ECU re: Error codes and the car is constantly in limp mode. Even though all the wiring has been changed, I've been told it's due to an issue with the dash, and that it may not be possible at all. I would have thought that if you change the engine, ecu, and all the wiring between all the components and the transmission with the turbo gear, it should actually work, considering it is infact now a factory turbo car. But what do I know
-
I absolutely agree with you on that one.
-
Oh that's been done, including the whole turbo wiring loom, ecu, engine, everything. Apparently it still doesn't happen, though. Is an auto, apparently this changes everything. Even though the parts were all auto parts they were replaced with. Nice to know after you pay for brakes, engine, exhaust, ecu, loom, box taken out, sent to SA, got shift kit done by MV autos, back in, etc. I need some kind of new emoticon. Edit: correct emoticon is this:

I've had my car off the road 8 months for a shop trying to get a N/A R34 turned into a turbo one by way of replacing.. apparently f**king everything and still maybe "not possible" Epic. So who knows, maybe I'll sell you mine for $5 and just wish you luck with it.
-
Just got off the phone to mechanic that must remain unnamed... found out it may "Just not be possible" to fix my car in the fashion desired, after 8 months (need to update sig!) Never knew it was so hard to put a turbo engine into a NA R34 and get it all to work, wouldnt think so after reading here /minor rant

I feel for you

I would totally buy this if I could find someone to buy my piece of sh... lovely R34 GTT.

Modified Skyline 0-100 Times
Kinkstaah replied to gwilkinson34's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Reading this thread (Digging up threads = searching, har har!) I ended up feeling slightly curious. If the R35 has 290 awkw and weighs 1740kg, and can get 3.5's you would think surely a 300rwkw GTT/GTST would be well under high 4's given they have the same power and weigh a couple of hundred k's lighter provided they don't lose traction I am curious to read what Joeyjoejoe/hamish's car actually gets as he said it pulls 285rwkw and doesnt lose any traction in first... Obviously its not only power and weight and traction that matter, would it simply be the extra (obviously a lot extra) low down and mid range torque to produce figures like 3.5 in a R35? Shorter gear ratio? What do 300-400awkw R32-33-34's get to 100kmh provided traction is no problem? Suppose it would depend massively on how responsive their relative setups are. 100% suspension based? Bit of both? Curious minds want to know, and prefer to dig up old threads then generate new ones. -
Highflow is not really a bad idea if you want to (try) to avoid being raped by the EPA. Same also applies to ECU's. That said if you aren't in vic, or your car is track only then get whatever you want Or you could get a GTR. Most would say that the best money spent on upgrading a GTT or GTST is by selling it and buying a GTR

What's Wrong With The R33?

I personally prefer the R33 GTR over the 32 by leaps and bounds. Personal taste tho -
I Need Advice On Modifying An R34 Gtt
Kinkstaah replied to hmd993's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I recently got a similar response from Trent re: Highflow injectors. Creatd do them for $85 an injector. (Recommended by Trent) Again, the vibe I got was they can be hit or miss. I don't know if the ones from Creatd are hit or miss, mind you. Failing that, are there any other injectors that look stock to the ones in a RB25DET Neo?
