rb26dett, have you never been in 1st gear at idle with the car driving slowly down the road???? of course it can do it... if it was a slight hill, it would pick up speed downhill.... -

DISCLAIMER: The assumptions made below are based upon my VIEWING of motorsport events for the last 20+ years, mostly on the telly. In car cameras, noises made and actions performed by, lets say, V8 supercars (as i think that was the example made) seem to indicate that the professional drivers do NOT brake into the corner with their foot solidly on the clutch, selecting the appropriate ratio, not heel-toeing then powering out. Think that made sense  Rather, they down shift whilst braking for the turn in an effort to be in the right cog once they have COMPLETED braking for the turn, thus enabling them to a/ make the turn and b/ power out of the turn. In fact, I can't think of one example of professional drivers with manual boxes doing this (tarmac type series', manual boxes etc). The whole compression lock-ups when braking into a corner this way would suggest that the driver should utilise heel-toe skillz so as not to lose the bum-end going into the corner (see HPI 5 - Wakefield track day for good examples). I'm not suggesting for a moment that the technique Martin has suggested in this post wont work for weekend track warriors (I do it but with some rev matching where possible), just that it's not applicable in the motorsport arena as mentioned. Adrian. ---------------- This $0.02 brought to you by the disclaimer above!

This is super illegal. (read: AFP taskforce to deal with people that do this.) Look for a copy of the Digital Ammendment Bill to the Copyright act and you'll see what I mean.

Sorry mate, obviously took it the wrong way. I just thought that seeing as how this is a public forum geared to promote discussion, I would be able to raise my own point and not miss it?!?!?! *baffle* I've done it before but i thought i was on top of this one In other words, I think my original post added something to the discussion. It wasn't trying to refute any points. In fact I agree with the majority of things posted in this thread. I simply thought that something was being missed in the discussion and raised it. In any case, I appreciate the clarification. Thankyou. -

well excuuuusssseee me! Who died and ma.....never mind. Well good. I'm glad if it's incited some spirited discussion instead of the compliant, subservient nonsense that others have been spouting. What a weak, spineless attitude this is!!! Less of a ..... Jeez!!!! Let me say my piece once and for all. People put up with too much shit from the police when they assume that they (the police) know the regs inside out. To simply say that, "If you're illegal (by the cop's say-so), you deserve the treatment" is laughable. This post is about the police reading internet sites and acting on modifications that they feel are illegal. Well, lets see: ** To any NSW Police Force employees or EPA type people reading this. I have a pod filter! ** I'll be sure and keep you updated. If they try it on, i'm not gonna take their shit. If anyone does take it, they're less of a man/woman/whatever. Adrian -

A small point being missed by some people..... Isn't that what I said? I don't think I accused ANYONE of missing the point. Just making additional commentary. I AGREE! That doesn't make the statement, "If your mods don't comply, you deserve everything you get" any more acceptable to me. Honestly mate, if you think everyone in an online forum environment is arguing with you, you'll be pretty stressed almost all of the time. I wasn't having a go at anyone, i wasn't being sarcastic and i don't think i mentioned your name or implied that you were one of the assholes who made the totally rank statement above. Please don't accuse me of missing the point. I can read and (quite often) speak in whole sentences. This says it all doesn't it, learned elder? I refuse to resign myself to the fact that because the police say something is so, it makes it so! If the police said you were guilty of driving on a Sunday and that it was prohibited these days, (because they didn't like the cut of your jib, fella-me-lad), would you just sit there, take the fine and say, "Oh well, I'M STUFFED" and wear the fine? Even though you KNEW it was illegal? Sorry to everyone else for the rant but I for one will not take BS from the police force about something I know isn't right. If Grandpa here expects us to, I feel he has another thing coming. Adrian -
Oil from air filter affecting Air Flow Meter (AFM)
2rismo replied to silver33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
You should be right if you dont over do it when you re-oil it. if you're really concerened, re-oil the filter, drive for a while, then clean the AFM. Adrian -
they change all fluids at compliance if you get it done somewhere with a clue. and i know several of the guys on the P&O docks in sydney that get plenty of time to cain the sphincter out of the imports when they take em off.

2rismo replied to MLCrisis's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I think a small point is being missed by various people on various forums when discussing this topic. And that is that the statement, "If your mods are illegal or your car doesn't comply with XYZ rule, then you deserve everything you get". A bigger load of refuse has never been written. Case in point: I have a K&N pod type air filter. It is attached to the bodywork of the car by way of a bracket. It is partitioned (but not enclosed) by aluminium-backed foam to aid in reducing heat-soak. It is fed by a cold air feed from the front bar. Now, if you were to ask the majority of NSW police officers (esp HW) if it is legal, they will tell you that it is not. If you were to consult the ADR's for motor vehicles, RTA regs etc you will find that it is not. Moreover, it isn't even something that needs to be engineered! I will point all interested to the results of a pending court case in Sydney, NSW next week and will not debate the legalities here. It's been done. After reading the above, is it FAIR that i receive a defect for my pod if pulled over? Is it equitable that an older person doesn't even have the question asked? DO I DESERVE THE INFRINGEMENT NOTICE BECAUSE I "ASKED FOR TROUBLE"??? Nuff said. -
I have the HKS type 0 (read: cheaper, non-gtech functions). In automatic mode, it uses the engine revs to determine cool down time. Boost has nothing to do with the equation. So saying that, "if you stay off boost for a while" is an incorrect and pointless statement. The TT ticks up quite rapidly from 0 for about the first minute. It gradually slows the time increase (unless you are still caning it), and at highway speeds (100-110) usually hovers around the 2.5-3 min mark. If you slow down and you revs drop, the timer slowly counts down. Like wise if you're stopped at lights. Very effective for prolonging engine life IMHO as long as you don't use it as the be all and end all of when to shut off your engine. As Sydneykid said, there are other things that should be adequately cooled besides your engine oil. Adrian

excessive camber causes excessive camber? that's a new one on me shuto boy. as rev said though, hard at the back is okay as long as ur not too hard at the front. i know i know, it SOUNDS backwards but it's not, okay? also, diff cradle kit is great little mod. on the camber issue though, if skylines are lowered properly, they dont have camber issues at all. (i.e. by properly i mean with appropriate adjustments/add ons to aid camber and castor adjustment). My 0.02

Was out that way last week watching the Auscar go around in 63's and 64's. Damn it was quick for an ageing EB! The guy's best around there was a 61 apparently. Adrian
