Yes, i believe that is correct, it is just a 2nd map with a fairly heavy timing retard (and fuel mix richen). The FSM specifically says the knock sensor is a 'last resort safety device' and is not a tuning device, so when knock occurs the ECU just smashes back the timing to try to prevent damage, it was not intended to 'adjust' to low octane fuels. And the other false perception is the ECU uses the knock sensor to advance the timing for higher octane fuels. the only ECU I know that actually uses multiple knock sensors to 'tune' the timing is the newer WRX STI ECU.

According to the FSM, the ECU switches to a 'knock map' when it detects knocking. But I have never observed it or tried to trigger it.

Of course. Ethanol has a lower energy density I have had 3 Nissans before the V35 and none of them benefited from running a higher octane fuel than they were made for. if the V35 is indeed made for 96RON, then my preference is not to go below that, which means 98 is the best option.

Not really a relevant comparison, higher octane fuel only has a higher resistance to detonation, if you aren't detonating on 95, then 98 will do nothing for you. I found no difference between 95 or 98 in regard to economy or performance, and I only run 98 now as I believe Japan's fuel is 96 and I prefer to er on the safe side.

Interesting.. wasn't aware of that.. what about the VQ30DD injectors? .. I thought someone would have made larger Di injectors. Either way, it is kind of a moot point I guess.

The problem isn't direct injection, the high static CR of this engine prevents forced induction on regular petrol without major engine modification.

how do you know you get better economy if you have run 98RON 'since day one'?

I ran 95 for a while when I first bought mine, I have since switched to 98 because it is only about 2cpl more than 95. I haven't noticed any difference in economy or performance. From memory, Japan has 96RON. E10 can be anywhere from about 91 to 96 RON depending on how long it has been sitting around.

Sort of, it was released in the Nissan Cedric at the same time as the A33 Cefiro, and the Cedric is a RWD. Also, the VQ30DE in the Australian A33 maxima got along ok, and the VQ25DD was only a few KW down and about 18Nm down on the VQ30, so it shouldn't have been too bad.. I have never driven a JDM A33 Cefiro though. Still, there probably isn't too many performance options for the VQ25DD, as most would go for the VQ35 or a stock DET engine if they want performance.

Ah ok, I am probably more thinking of the sedan, which had major changes from S1 to S2 (including the boot release button), and not much to S3.

What's the difference between the S2 and S3 front bar, tails and rear spoiler? Fwiw, your price seems quite reasonable, so hopefully it won't take to long to sell.

Anything is possible with enough $$$. But as Scotty said, this engine isn't going to make it easy for you. E85 is 85% ethanol fuel. Ethanol has a considerably higher octane rating than petrol, so it has a higher resistance to detonation, meaning you can run higher cylinder pressures before it self ignites. Otherwise, the VQ25DD will need a tear down and rebuild for lower compression. A VQ25DET engine would be ideal, but as mentioned, they are not commonly available. If you were after more performance, as 350GT would have been a better option, there are aftermarket supercharger/turbocharger kits available.

Depends on the state, in Qld the limit is 210kw, but also bans all V8s and most turbos, so the V35 350GT and the older 350Z are not restricted.

Spacer? or do you mean intake plenum? If you are confident all the bolts, hoses and connectors have been removed, sometimes the gaskets will 'stick' and may need a tap with a rubber mallet to break it free. If you don't have a rubber mallet, a piece of wood and a normal hammer will do. Don't get too rough and don't get tempted to use a screwdriver between the 2 sections you are trying to separate!!

Maybe the S1 doesn't but mine definitely has black mesh on the side openings.

not sure, but I think the dealer can program the immobiliser because they have the real Consult device and the NATS keycard and they don't need the PIN to do this. I highly doubt you will be able to buy a NATS keycard as they are fairly tightly secured, and only available to dealers. if you have the PIN, you can program NATS without the keycard. Not exactly sure if this is the same for the 'intelligent keys/fob', but if Nissan go to that much trouble with keychip immobilisers then chances are the same security would be provided with the intelligent keys.

Again.. this is for the central locking remote, not the immobiliser.. programming the immoboliser requires a trip to a dealer, or some sort of consult device if you have your BCM PIN

Some have done dyno runs to show the benefits of the space on the 3.5L engine, so there are some gains there, not sure if that would translate into any gains on the 2.5L DD engine though. the Z tube is absolutely just for sounds though.. after all the 350Z produces the same power/torque as the 3.5L engine in the V35.

just a quick question.. does that engine damper really just attach to the intake plennum? or does it also attach to the head somewhere also?
