  9. you can use normal automotive basecoat and clear, the heat will not affect it. think about how hot a panel gets in the middle of summer out in the sun? the paint doesnt peel off then, so it wont on the bay either. rub the cover with 800 wet paper. wash it with soapy water to remove all rubbing residue and sludge. clean with prepsol/wax and grease remover. apply plastic primer, but apply fine coats, not heavy coats, as this can cause imperfections in the paint. apply paint within 15 minutes of applying plastic primer. good luck!

  17. birds, i dont follow rules. and douche? was that really necessary as we have never spoken before? if u must know i have emailed about becoming a trader and am waiting for a response/reply. why are car forums full of f**king wankers?? all that was needed was to edit this post and a PM. Not a smartass remark like 'douche', seeing as u do not kno who i am nor have we ever spoken. following rules pfft
  18. No, sorry it wasn't the drift car that Holford Motors own, it was the S14a that Luke owned personally, his street car. Its hard to capture the affect as i don't have a wizz bang camera, but there is a video on Vimeo that Scott Mitchell has made about the wrap up of ADGP and u see Luke rolling thru the pits in this car and the sunlight brings out the fade and flake. Its a cool clip and it kind of shows u what the car looks like if u haven't seen in it person... If u look at the front of the passenger door and compare it to the rear qtr, u can see that the door has a magenta affect to it, and the qtr panel has a violet affect to it. here is the video link *Really sorry, didnt mean to hijack the thread
  19. Hi everyone, I do not mean to cause controversy at all, i think this a good thread, but this is not the proper way to do it. I own and run a custom shop, i have painted many custom cars and bikes, and even have a few SAU members cars in my shop right now. As i said i DO NOT mean to cause drama on this thread, i just simply wanted to give my opinion and help others painting their car themselves or wanting to learn and have a go themselves. Using this pigment will not last, and is not the correct way to create affects in paintwork. You can NEVER put anything in the final coat(s) of clear. The clear WILL de-laminate from the substrate/panel/car. If for example, u are wanting to repair and paint your car, these are the processes that i carry out, (minus my tricks of the trade) Strip the car completely, windows and all Block the car down with 180 grit to show imperfections Do all ur repirs with hammer and dolly and body file. Use slight skims of nikki/bog/body filler to reapir small imperfections. DONT use too much as this will create too much film build from the panel top layer of clear. Once all your repairs are done and blocked, DONT use a D/A/ wizzer/ sander, or what have you, it will create ripples. Finish all repairs with 180 grit sandpaper Hi-fill/primer the car, minimum 5 coats Guide coat (GMH black) and block the car 180, using a nice hard long block Now, after the car is blocked u can use a D/A wizzer, as long as you know how to use it and the pad is not f**ked and wobbly and stuff. it must be straight Guide coat the car, and u can wizz 320 Then guide coat again and wet rub by hand or soft block if ur not confident of not leaving finger marks with 800 wet For silver or black i finish with 1000wet, just to back myself up. now there is a lot of tricks i have left out as i cant give all my secrets away, but u get the idea of what must be carried out in what order. Candy like this pigment will fade, suck in and drop gloss, and it, under no circumstances can be added to clear. u must add it to binder or an inter coat clear, which is like a binder but containing a catalyst. i wouldn't use a candy like this i didn't trust. i only use House Of Kolor or PPG Vibrance. Also, applying candies and metal flakes HAVE to be done a certain way, there is no guess work in this. u HAVE to know what u are doing and have done it many times before. Even pearls, tho not as hard as other affects, it has to be applied a certain way for maximum result. I have worked along side painters such as Gene Winfield (Winfields Custom Shop, Vegas, Nevada) and Charley Hutton (Charley Hutton's Color Studio & formerly Boyd Coddington Hot Rods) I hope this help anyone wanting to give it a go in the shed or workplace. Anyone who gets stuck can swing by my shop and I will endevour to help as much as i can. Good luck Thank You Cooper Customs
  20. Hi KrazyKong, I wish i could help u, i really do. It really gets to me, being a workshop owner and building custom cars and doing custom resprays, that i see and hear of this constantly. Ive read through your comments and realised u were in Brisbane. My workshop is in Sydney, so unless u are coming down to Sydney anytime soon *winkface... when u get the chance, post some fotos of the finished product, and try and bounce sunlight of the repair so i can see ripples, orange peel and other imperfections. I have painted a few cars from Brisbane and The Gold Coast, having the owners come all the way from ur area as i have an excellent reputation. I also have a customer coming from Darwin. One of the other cars i have painted is luke finks S14A with the magenta to violet fade over black, with pearl white and gold metal flake, not sure if u have seen it or not... Post a photo or two and il endevour to help and give you my professional opinion Thankyou Cooper Customs
  21. Hi everyone, Just wanted to say a quick hello to let you know I am a new member of SAU and what I do. Rest edited - Admin
  22. oh and a guy around the corner from my workshop in whom i have become mates with has, and has completed and raced, and R32 GTR with a blown aluminum LS7 in it, with porsche GT cup car wheels, brakes and modified struts in. he corner weighted the car and it saved him 200 pounds on the front end! i guess what takes the cake is this, its one of my best friends and buisness mentor Marios car. Its a 1959 Cadillac Coupe De Ville Custom. I helped with bits and peices here and there for him over the years, and also helped him with countless other cars and bikes he owns.
  23. this is a cool thread, the idea of the ae86 with the TRD atlantic race engine is genius, and seeing as i own an AE86, i would love to do it. they are 300HP out of the box and rev to 14000 RPM! insanity! The beetle with the EJ20 has been done, and it f**king cool i might add! My best mate is building (which i have helped and am helping with) a genuine vertex ridge widebody 180SX with an XR6T with 450KW sports sedan. 3 cylinders are in the cab, 3 are in the bay. Full chromoly cage, relocated shifter with tremec box, dry sumped, the list is endless... Oh the F20C is f**king cool too! Did u all see the 20B AE86 on youtube? and i love the hot rod ideas, seeing as i am a hot rodder from way back. I had an idea of a DC5 with rear mount transaxle vtec, so when u look through the hatch window, u see the engine right there! the FD RX7 with pushrod monstrosity of thong slapping has been done and another of my good friends has an S13 with a lexus quad cam V8 in it... im not sure what id do in this instance, even tho i am a die hard RB fan, and have my own R32 GTR with a 2630 as a 2wd drift car, i guess i would do cars like: mad mikes car is up there with the 26B or a chopped windowless FB Holden panelvan with a blown injected top alcohol wild bunch engine in it or ive always thought of swapping my R32 GTR shell for an S15 and putting my running gear in it. maybe one day. what does everyone think?
