Hey Guys,

I've been doing my research and all the answer are not clear to me. I'm 17 and buying a R32 Skyline GTS-T. Due to the new law my turbo must be taken out.. Although there is also a prohibited vehicles banned list... In this list it contains the following of the r32 model:

NISSAN SKYLINE GTS-T HR32 2D COUPE TURBO 6 1998 cc TURBO MPFI 4A 1/01/1990 1/12/1993 TURBO 6

NISSAN SKYLINE GTS-T HR32 2D COUPE TURBO 6 1998 cc TURBO MPFI 5M 1/01/1990 1/12/1993 TURBO 6

NISSAN SKYLINE GTS-T HR32 4D SEDAN TURBO 6 1998 cc TURBO MPFI 4A 1/01/1990 1/12/1993 TURBO 6

NISSAN SKYLINE GTS-T HR32 4D SEDAN TURBO 6 1998 cc TURBO MPFI 5M 1/01/1990 1/12/1993 TURBO 6

now in the release dates it starts at 1990 and discontinues at 1993... Althought R32's start in production November 1989.. Is it possible for me to still drive this skyline if it's a 1989 skyline GTS ... without turbo etc? Just wanna be sure before i buy anything..

Thanks guys

buy the turbo register under your parents name........take off the T from the badge if there is one. Make sure you don't useless things like BOV on it or a FMIC untill you are legal to have it.

Otherwise get a corolla, drive it for a few years until you crash it then buy a line......chances are you will crash it

A skyline has been in the family before, i drive it to school sometimes.. although it's time i get my own, i need it to be completely legal etc. I'm not after engine, i'm after looks and sound.. so if the R32 GTS25 model are legal, why the hell not.. Also if the 1989 models are legal.. that 2. not sure which is better

Even if the car is registered in my parents name i still can't drive it...

If it has a turbo...Its banned, whether it be on the list or not. Registering it under you parents name, dont go there... Best go to the RTA website and download the exemption form, I'm sure you will think of something then :(

Where's the confusion? It has no turbo. It has no V8. It's not on the list. How much more obvious did you want it?

And I'm not sure how much of your beloved "sound" you're going to get, since the laws also prohibit new P platers from driving any car with modifications that alter "engine performance".

So unless you like the sound of an untouched RB25DE with a factory intake and exhaust, you may be a tad disappointed.

mmmm finding an r32 with a rb20, manual, is hard enough as it is.. Little to no chance of finding and rb25de 32...

I got a R33 gts... good fun... not as fun as a turbo.. but still fun.

Yea your only option i'd say is to try and get an exemption.. dammit i should have tried that... might do that soon, if i plan on buying a 32 gts-t :)

Thanks for all your input guys...

scathing I don't think it works out that way, i think all the cars on that list are banned with or without the turbo or supercharger...

Also What you think i can get the exemption from... Yeah i need a skyline for the country :(... hehe...

ok dude... how many times do we have to say that IF THE CAR IS NOT LISTED ON THE BANNED LIST IT IS ALOUD TO BE DRIVEN BY P PLATERS

THAT MEANS:

ANY NON TURBO SKYLINE IS ALOUD TO BE DRIVEN BY A P PLATER

so... YOU CAN BUY A R32 GTS25 (NON TURBO) AND DRIVE IT WITHOUT HEADACHES

same goes for a R33 and R34

Just remember if the car is high performance/turbo/supercharger then it's banned even i it's not on the list.. so a '89 GTST will still be banned.

Best/easiest bet is a r33 whale NA

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
