Well today was the day, when me and Mr_G (forum member) installed these wonderful Hertz HSK 165 6.5 inch spilts into my car (Series 2 R33), into stock pods!!

I will give a breif outline of what had to be done and will post up pics as neccessary..

First Step: getting the door trims off, and stock speaker pods.. (im sure this section is covered in one of the tuts somewhere)

Edit: this thread will explain how to - just scroll down abit.. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=152623

So now it Looks like this:

Next step, modifing the stock pods, so the 6.5inch spilts can fit!!

This requires to get the angle grinder off and trying to grind off some of the plastic.. Im sure once your put the speakers into the pod, you will know exactly what to grind off.. Also grind the plastic at the back, so the magnet can easily fit in!!

You can also buy some mdf and trace out the stock pods onto it and use the mdf as the baffel.. Will require more work.. But stock pods do it fine for now!!

Now the hard bit-where to mount the tweeter?? After asking a lot of people, i decided to mount them, where the mirrow pannel goes.. The triangle near the window.. If you get what i mean.. So the tweeter is still in front of you..

The other option was to flush mount it in into the door trim.. Or down at the kick pannel..

Just be careful when puttin the tweeter into the cup holder!! The hertz cup is a bit tight, making it very hard to put the tweeter in.. Either that, or we were meant to read the manual for instructions.. hahah!!

Next step, was to solder speaker wire onto the driver as well as the tweeter.. the hertz did not supply longer speaker wire thats why.. Hmm think Mr_G can shed some light and maybe tell us what exactly had to be done..

Also it might help if you had a wiring diagram.. This is in the tut section i beleive..

Anyways, after that, wire it all up, put the door trims back on, and all the screws and bam, you got yourself some awesome sounding Hertz..

To those people who told the tweeters are a little to bright, i did not find this at all!! These speakers are very good and im really impressed with them.. Do note, im only running these speakers from my headunit (alpine 9835) so only gettin 23watts each.. It can handle 125watt contiounes... SO also having a proper amp and some deading will insure better quailty, but for now it does the job very well.. Its true these drivers have a good midbass..

Overall i rate these speakers very highly and would recommened it to anyone..

I just hope these pics work..

if not, will post them in next reply..

ALSO a big thank you to Mr_G for helping and doin most of the work lol.. thanks dude, couldnt have done it witout ya..

Cheers..

I did the same thing with my install. Using stock pods and some clarion 6.5" splits.

Maybe i'm used to my old car and speakers, but i'm not impressed with what I have. The speaker positioning in the Skylines are horrible. I think I need to hear someone elses stereo and compare. =-[

click on FHRX's link and go to "images" on the left side of the page.

then click on the 'images of interest'

as you scroll down the page you will see the deadening pics.

FHRX installed my system but i was too cheap to get the doors fully deadened at the time.

since then i bought some Serenity Max from FHRX and installed it myself. removing the door trim isn't too difficult if you are vaguely handy with mechanical things/basic tools and the DIY tutorial sections cover most of this (plus doing a search will throw up lots of advice). it will take a few hours to do it.

yea you will notice big differences once its deadened.. Will do it sometime next month and most up more pics and see if theres a lot of difference.

atm the doors do vibrate n it annoys me a little..

Once i do that, i will make an update n most up more pics etc etc.. but the speakers are realy sharp n clear with a lot of bass, but atm its not at its full potentional..

as posted above so just repeating myself.

serenity max. was about $110 DIY for both doors back then.

bought from FHRX.

i think some other types are more flexible and i suggest that will make it easier.

Well a week or two back, i got the hertz HCX coxials for the rears.

A great speaker for such a good price. Looks really nice as well and performs well..

Still running of headunit and sound deadening to come in few weeks time..

Keep you informed..

Think i got them for 300 when it was on special from FHRX

These speakers do put out a fair bit off bass, and i might not even have to buy a sub once these are amped and sound-deadend!!

might just get a small 10inch or 8inch to give that extra low bass.

But i was listening to Hed-Kandi (Chillout/house/musical) the other day and these speakers sounded really clear and sharp!!

Overall im happy without spending big money on speakers.

Offcourse there are better sounding speakers out there, but these are expectionally fine to my ears.

Nope i screwed it in.

Remember the tweeter also has wires, so i made a small hole in the triangle, run the wires thru that into the door to the corssover..

hmm now i think about it, i think i made two holes. one for the wire and one to screw the tweeter in..

The tweeter came with some mouting brackets etc etc.
