Is it me or does anyone else think that channel TENs coverage of the Grand Prix sucked? I couldnt belive my eyes when they went for the add break after the first safety car and then when they came back we didnt even get to see Alonso over take Button on the restart. And when they showed the front runners Alonso had a 2second lead and wasnt even in the same frame,WTF?. and Webber had got past Ralf and Montoya.f**k they really shit me,it gets me so angry when channel TEN get it wrong and didnt see many driver interviews,Only about 1 min of Kimi, didnt see M Schu, and nothing of the world champ Alonso. Add breaks ever 5 mins and Murray Walker even had the balls to say channel TENs coverage was the best hes seen and they didnt miss a thing!!!!! f**k me.And to top it all off our man was on for a podium untill his car died.not happy jan!!

can't fcuking beleive it...first time I go to a GP I get called back to work...halfway thru....when webber was leading.

I'm sure he would have won if I had stayed :ermm:

BTW those things are noisy

you got called back to work!!?? they pay for your tickets??

well well well, its tuesday morning at 12:46am and i've just finished watching the GP.

thats right, i was working sunday, so i got my mrs to tape it for me (thanks babe ) but due to some VCR drama at my house!!!! i hadn't been able to watch it until tonight!

i've stayed away from this thread, and a few others on SAU, as well as radio, TV, websites etc just so i didnt know the result. ive had ppl come up to me at work ready to talk f1, and ive sent them on their way as i didnt know anything and didnt want to until i watched it...sure i could've looked at the F1 website for results, but i HAD to watch.

anyway. to those that say bridgestone has nothing, RS 3rd....MS was eating into button like no tomorrow until he had that unfortunate off....and he still admits the tyres arent up to scratch....so they are not out of it. i was shattered when Massa got cleaned up, but Schu was looking good for 4-6th place, until he went off....unfortunate, but at least he showed some pace there for a while

bring on imola :D

hahah no, work is in Melb atm...supporting a payroll system so people take it kinda seriously.

Anyway.....my real problem with the day was.....no matter where i checked I could not buy my Super Aguri supporters T-shirt

Even Minardi merchandise was available and they dont even exist any more. I've contacted the team so lets see if they come up with something.

BTW is it coincidence that Ferrari were front runners when they had the illegal flexy wings but are now mid fielders without?

no its not a big a coincedence as you think... ferrari was having massive unreliabilty with their engine's in the first two races with no less than 4 engine changes.

since then they've discovered it was a piston ring setup problem, so they've had to bring a new spec engine to melb and obviously with any new engine they'll struggle.

also it was their rear wing which was found to be illegal aswell as the front so they've had to beef them both up with (for now) a high drag penelty until they find better solutions.

and schumacher still wasnt that far off some of the front runners (was catching button like the other front runners did) until he went off, so its not looking THAT bad for ferrari...

but it shows how hard schmi had to push to catch button for him to keep running of the track like did. plus button by his own admission was struggling quite badly throughout the race with tyre temp. problems...

i think the best guage you can use to see each drivers pace is to see their fastest laps for Melb:

1st. Kimi 1:26.045

2nd. Alonso 1:26.189

3rd. Schmi 1:27.180

they still got a long way to go till they catch the front two teams.

i think its over for them this year, and if schmi leaves at the end of the year then they are well and truly fcuked...

..im not worried abotu MS leaving...im more curious to know what will happen to them if the ppl that joined MS all those years ago at Ferrari decide that he level of sucess they have enjoyed is enough and go lookign for other challenges.

Im thinking Williams, Red Bull and Toyota are looking like the sorts of teams that are going to enjoy more synergy within the team. Mclaren has had a few ppl leave, and a drivers seat is up in the air next year...but i feel that their team is stronger then just the few key staff that have left

if this is the best Ferrari has to offer this year they got a loooooong way to go yet till they catch Renault and Mclaren....

what a stupid comment

massa was taken out by klien in the first turns....game over there, not a lot he could do surrounded by that many cars (klien and speed either side of him) and he suffered...

schumacher was pushing hard, had a bit of understeer and got an unlucky bounce. thats what put him in the wall, not the understeer itself.

not sure if you recall, but montoya did EXACTLY the same thing, except he got a lucky bounce off the kerb and kept it off the wall.

i agree with dezz...

if you look at a replay of the incident, Montoya was actaully closer to the wall, but the bump just after the rumble strip was closer to the track. Montoya stradled the bump, and it didn't put him into the wall. MS actually didn't go off as bad montoya, he was able to control the initial over-steer, but hit the bump, which un-loaded the outside of the car and put him into the wall.

however, im not sure that they will win a race, atleast in the 1st half of the season anyway. their pace has been good, but not consistant or quick enough to keep up with renault. and bridgestone need to up their game as well. its not that the bridgestone is slow, its just that the michelin is better, for now.....

I tried for you mate! I even asked at all the places in the city. We now call them "Super Who?". At one place i said do you have any super aguri t-shirts and the dude replied: "no, we only sell F1 team merchandise"...lol

but to top if off guess who i flew back with?? about half of Team Super Aguri!! at least they all had team shirts on...lol

and duncan, tell me that sound didn't give you goosebumps?

I am the only one who thinks the V8s sound as good as the V10s? possibly even a little better. they do sound a little weaker down low (under say 15000) but scream nicely when getting wound out.

    • I'm looking for some real world experiences/feed back from anyone who has personally ran a EFR7670 with a 1.05 exhaust housing or a .83 I'm leaning towards the .83 because its a street car used mostly for spirited driving in the canyons roads. I"m not looking for big numbers on paper. I want a responsive powerband that will be very linear to 8000 rpm. I dont mind if power remains somewhat flat but dont want power to drop off on top. The turbo I've purchased is a 1.05, although the mounting flange T3 vs T4 and internal vs external waste gates are different on both housings, I not concern about swapping parts or making fabrication mods to get what I want. Based on some of the research I've done with chat gpt, the 1.05 housing seems to be the way to go with slightly more lag and future proofing for more mods but recommends .83 for best response/street car setup. AI doesn't have the same emotions as real people driving a GTR so I think you guys will be able to give me better feed back 😀
    • Surely somebody has one in VIC. Have you asked at any shops?  Is this the yearly inspection or did you get a canary?
    • This is where I share pain with you, @Duncan. The move to change so many cooling system pieces to plastic is a killer! Plastic end tanks and a few plastic hose flanges on my car's fail after so little time.  Curious about the need for a bigger rad, is that just for long sessions in the summer or because the car generally needs more cooling?
    • So, that is it! It is a pretty expensive process with the ATF costing 50-100 per 5 litres, and a mechanic will probably charge plenty because they don't want to do it. Still, considering how dirty my fluid was at 120,000klm I think it would be worth doing more like every 80,000 to keep the trans happy, they are very expensive to replace. The job is not that hard if you have the specialist tools so you can save a bit of money and do it yourself!
    • OK, onto filling. So I don't really have any pics, but will describe the process as best I can. The USDM workshop manual also covers it from TM-285 onwards. First, make sure the drain plug (17mm) is snug. Not too tight yet because it is coming off again. Note it does have a copper washer that you could replace or anneal (heat up with a blow torch) to seal nicely. Remove the fill plug, which has an inhex (I think it was 6mm but didn't check). Then, screw in the fill fitting, making sure it has a suitable o-ring (mine came without but I think it is meant to be supplied). It is important that you only screw it in hand tight. I didn't get a good pic of it, but the fill plug leads to a tube about 70mm long inside the transmission. This sets the factory level for fluid in the trans (above the join line for the pan!) and will take about 3l to fill. You then need to connect your fluid pump to the fitting via a hose, and pump in whatever amount of fluid you removed (maybe 3 litres, in my case 7 litres). If you put in more than 3l, it will spill out when you remove the fitting, so do quickly and with a drain pan underneath. Once you have pumped in the required amount of clean ATF, you start the engine and run it for 3 minutes to let the fluid circulate. Don't run it longer and if possible check the fluid temp is under 40oC (Ecutek shows Auto Trans Fluid temp now, or you could use an infrared temp gun on the bottom of the pan). The manual stresses the bit about fluid temperature because it expands when hot an might result in an underfil. So from here, the factory manual says to do the "spill and fill" again, and I did. That is, put an oil pan under the drain plug and undo it with a 17mm spanner, then watch your expensive fluid fall back out again, you should get about 3 litres.  Then, put the drain plug back in, pump 3 litres back in through the fill plug with the fitting and pump, disconnect the fill fitting and replace the fill plug, start the car and run for another 3 minutes (making sure the temp is still under 40oC). The manual then asks for a 3rd "spill and fill" just like above. I also did that and so had put 13l in by now.  This time they want you to keep the engine running and run the transmission through R and D (I hope the wheels are still off the ground!) for a while, and allow the trans temp to get to 40oC, then engine off. Finally, back under the car and undo the fill plug to let the overfill drain out; it will stop running when fluid is at the top of the levelling tube. According to the factory, that is job done! Post that, I reconnected the fill fitting and pumped in an extra 0.5l. AMS says 1.5l overfill is safe, but I started with less to see how it goes, I will add another 1.0 litres later if I'm still not happy with the hot shifts.
