Must say I'm a little dissapointed that Webber didn't join Renault (doors till open for 08 though), but given the choice between RBR and Williams, there's no choice that Webber will be better off at RBR.

RBR could be on the crest of a wave next year considering it will be the first car they have that has the full technical input of Adrian Newey and Peter Prodromou (sp?), so I'd expect it to definately be more competitive and more regularly at the pointy end of the grid.

It will be interesting to see how Webber compares with DC. Give him a few races and then I think we'll start to get a good idea on who's the quicker man.

Now that Webber's signed for RBR, it'll be interesting to see what happens with the rest of the musical chairs...perhaps Raikkonen isn't going to Ferrari afterall (????)

OK, i have been doing some homework tryign to understand what is going on in the heads of Webber anf Flav. I still say Williams are not looking to bad for next year, provided their drivers can get out of the car what Webber is able to.

The other reason im starting to like the idea, its much liek the Williams thing. If Webber wins a race then its more deserving then if he was called up for the next race at Renault and is behind the wheel of the best car which he has had nothing to do with developing. He gets the cudos if he wins with RBR. And his team mate will help out of sight with the car.

But, back to RBR. The past 12 months have seen the signing of the following ppl, so have a read and see if you still think the move is a bad one. Im thinking it could be a stroke of genius if he gives it 2 years.

Adrian Newey (ex Mclaren/Williams)

Peter Prodromou (ex Mclaren)

Anton Stipinovich (ex Mclaren/Ferrari)

The 42-year-old South African is the new head of the development team. He spent the past four years working for Ferrari following four years with McLaren.

Rob Marshall & Jonathan Wheatley (ex Renault)

The biggest Renault - Red Bull defection is Chief Mechanic Jonathan Wheatley who will become team manager of Red Bull Racing. Also Renault designer Rob Marshall has been lured to RBR.

Humphrey Corbett (Toyota)

Race engineers Kieran Pilbeam a from BAR and Mark Hutcheson (ex Renault)

Kenny Handkammer Scheuys old Race Mechanic and recently been with Renault

They have gone crazy recruiting technical ppl at all levels to support Newey in the design of the car and support the drivers over the race weekend. Their efforts this year are being comprimised nby development f next years car, and the fact that there was an error with this years cars relating to the integration of the Ferari engine into the chassis and overheating. So it was patched up and development focussed on next years car with Newey getting a head start.

OK, i have changed my tune. It looks to be a smart move in light of some internal changes to other teams, expecially the bean counting going on by Renault powers to be, which is rumoured to be the reason why Flavio is yet to sign as he isnt liking the intrusion amongst his health scare and the leaving of Alonso.

Who knows, perhaps Flav knows something that we dont about Renault and there is something to the Alonso signing early with McLaren ?????

I think RBR will offer much more than Williams can currently offer and will be able to offer in 2007. I can't see Williams going from the 2nd worst performing team 1 year to a top 4 team (ferrari, renault, mclaren, williams) the year after, it just doesn't happen in Formula unless the rest of the field is asleep for 10mths of the year.

As Roy has already mentioned their is alot happening at RBR with only more on the way. What's happening at Williams apart from Broken cars returning to the factory?

Webber is a top 6-8 driver, always has been and always will be unless he is with Ferrari, Renault or McLaren.

Absolutely not! But Renault were only an engine supplier and not a team at that point.

To be clear:

In 1984 & 1985 Renault were running their own formula 1 team. At the same time they supplied Lotus with 1.5 litre turbo charged motors. Lotus won races during those years and also in 1986 with the Renault motor before moving to Honda power. The Gerard Ducarouge (Spelling?) designed chassis worked well, Ayrton Senna drove brilliantly & the JPS Lotus' from that era just happenned to be the most beautiful GP cars ever built. Look it up in the history books if you don't believe me. :D

What will Williams have for next year? Well Toyota motors for one.

Remember it is much, much easier to make a quick car reliable than to make a reliable car quick. The Williams this year has been quick when its tyres allowed. Certainly much better than the RBR.

F1 is littered with tales of coulda woulda shoulda and with people with deep pockets chucking money at the sport & getting nowhere. Last success I can think of was son of rajab Hesketh & that was in nineteen seventy something...

Dunno, some bloke from Brazil. They reckon he used to be able to drive a bit. You know, back in the day when men were men & F1 cars still had slicks.

Senna is by far the best Ive ever seen in an F1 car ...watching him at Adelaide in 1993 in his last race for mcLaren and his last ever win was amazing...he was on a whole other level compared to the rest of the field. These big slick shod cars were awesome and so was the sound of that amazing sounding F93A Ferrari V12..Pfffhhh these new V8 sound like a council bus in comparison

Lets hope RBR and Adrian Newey give Webber the goods next season

Was the 93 Ferrari the one with the wierd arse false floor setup that ruined Ivan Capelli's career?

Happenned to look at some old footage of the 94 race the other week. Was absolutely staggered by how much the cars moved around. Understeer/oversteer/wheelspin - just awesome stuff.

One of these came up for Auction awhile ago in England when I was there and I remeber it sold for 300000 pounds, which seemed to be reasonable but the auctioneer said these engines had to be fully rebuilt every 400-500 klm at a cost of over 50000 pounds ha ha

The modern day F1 car doesnt do it for me like those cars

I will take your learned reply under advisement. And I thoroughly concur with your thoughts on the JPS cars. I still have an old Auto Action poster of the JPS (1972) 72 car with all the gold leaf on the rear wing signifying their many victories. Vale Colin Chapman. The man who coined the phrase "if it didn't break as it crossed the finish line then it was far too strong and therefore needed to be lightened".

I do wonder though... did any mere mortals win using the Renault customer motors during that period or only Aryton?

Speaking of things past ...... what about the infamous Brabham Fan car (BT46B) ahhhhhhh innovation!

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox ! 
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
