lets have a think how many F1 races did McLaren win in the 50's, early 60's oh thats right they were not even in F1 yet

Yeah 88 was a great year-especially with that amazing non McLaren engine in the back

Lets have another think how many races McLaren won with their own engine in the car???.......ah thats right the 'mighty engineering genious' Mclaren dont have their ownb engine-they go to Ilmor for them(no come backs about who owns what-its not called a McLaren engine, its a Merc)

Yeah, the non McLaren engine in the back. Next to the non McLaren wheels, tyres, brakes, radiators, seat, steering wheel, fuel, oil, bearings, springs, dampers......

The Honda motor was arguably, relative to it's peers, the finest grand prix engine ever made. Accusation of favouritism have always been part of F1. Lotus once complained to Honda (In 88 if I remember) & where told to go & pick and engine from out of the truck - as they were all the same.

By your way of thinking there are only four legitimate teams in F1 (Does BMW Sauber count?) & teams like Lotus, Brabham & Tyrrell have no place in the record books. What the hell, let's re-start the FISA/FOCA wars from the early eighties. >_<

Not that it matters, but what would you call the bespoke TAG motor that powered the McLaren from 84 to 87? Built to John Barnard's exacting spec & used solely in the McLaren. Paid for by McLaren's TAG sponsor.

Atleast Ferrari never had to engage third parties to sort their motors out. Best we don't mention the name Osamu Goto then. :)

Part of what makes F1 so good is the treasure trove of history that can be used to support any and every argument. Not everyone will agree on which team is better (& why should they), but that doesn't make the argument less enjoyable.

This is the best footage from the start of a race i've ever seen...

Hungary - Start Of Race Onboard

You basically ride onboard with Alonso for the first 3 laps of the last race in Hungary and watch him take 11 cars in the rain. The balance and control he has of the car is magnificent. I never really liked Alonso, and the fact that he was coming to Mclaren made me dislike that even more... until i watched this

OK, i have been doing some homework tryign to understand what is going on in the heads of Webber anf Flav. I still say Williams are not looking to bad for next year, provided their drivers can get out of the car what Webber is able to.

The other reason im starting to like the idea, its much liek the Williams thing. If Webber wins a race then its more deserving then if he was called up for the next race at Renault and is behind the wheel of the best car which he has had nothing to do with developing. He gets the cudos if he wins with RBR. And his team mate will help out of sight with the car.

But, back to RBR. The past 12 months have seen the signing of the following ppl, so have a read and see if you still think the move is a bad one. Im thinking it could be a stroke of genius if he gives it 2 years.

Adrian Newey (ex Mclaren/Williams)

........................................

Who knows, perhaps Flav knows something that we dont about Renault and there is something to the Alonso signing early with McLaren ?????

I heard that RBR were trying to arrange for Renault engines for 2007. The problem is the ongoing contract with Ferrari for engine supply. I understand that they are trying to shift that to Torro Rosso to replace the Cosworth V10. Since Flavio knows what is going on at Renault and is Webber’s manager, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the plan.

I like the look of Weber in an Adrian Newey designed chassis with Renault engines.

:) cheers :)

Presumably RBR want to shift this years engine/chassis over to Torro Rosso much as they did with last years car. It would be harder to do so with an engine change. According to John Todt it ain't going to happen & RBR are stuck with Ferrari engines next year.

So do I. You reckon Flava-Flav could get Newey & Webber signed with Renault? :)

Doornbos tries F1 car on Dutch highway

63204.jpg63202.jpg63201.jpg

This morning Robert Doornbos became the first person ever to drive a Formula 1 car on the Dutch highway. In a totally secret showcase the Red Bull driver raced at speeds of up to 326km/h on the A7 in the North of Holland.

At 10.32am the little town called Den Oever woke up to the sound of a Formula One engine. The A7 highway was closed for the occasion just long enough that Doornbos could complete two runs of the street circuit.

Doornbos said about his outing at the highway: "Wow, that was amazing! Of course I have driven here a thousand times with my car but this is much more exciting! I want to thank everyone at Red Bull for this great opportunity!"

Why doesnt shit like this happen over here more often... Webber did the harbour bridge, i wnant to see kimi flying down the Monash

I used to like paul tracy a lot. He was fast, tough and dindt take shit from anyone... but lately hes turned into a real prick.

This was a couple weeks ago, most people saw this on the news..

Tagliani vs Tracy San Jose 2006

Now he's gone and done this...

No doubt Sports Tonight and RPM will milk this for a while, but its pretty sad stuff. Montoya should have gone back to champ car imo. I would love to see how he would deal with all this.

Tracy is a TOOL, Typical American.........

Ahhhh............Canadian....and thats not the same...Tracy is just a tool...nothing to do with what country he is from.

Saying a Canadian is the same as a yank is like sayin an aussie is the same as a Kiwi and we know how upset this can make some peeps :(

    • Shouldn't need a "base map" for anything other than guidance to ignition tuning. You just need the engine capacity right, the injector size right, and something, almost anything, for a VE map. On an NA engine, fuelling is almost completely a function of load signal & rpm. It should run and drive with a completely flat fuel map. It will be too lean under load, but that's easily fixed. We used to tune all ECUs without any base map. There were no such things (until someone had tuned a near stock engine on one, and then they had a "base map".
    • What did you actually buy/how much did it cost? When I got mine in like.. 2017...? 2019? the aim was to run Torque for gauges via ODB2 and things like Track Addict/Laptimers/Dashcam/Reversecam/Spotify etc. Mine never broke, but I wonder if you've got the same needs (it sounds like it). Cause I liked the idea of being able to do anything with it. That said, yours also cost 3x the cost of what I spent so... food for thought.
    • For me there is a massive difference in manufacturer or big brand crippled android (Sony, Kenwood etc) vs the sort of thing I've installed here, which is basically just a tablet in DIN form factor with open Android, and the other model of course is mirroring - Android Auto/Carplay. I hate the locked down manufacturer and AA options where they decide what apps I'm allowed to install, including the Launcher but also importantly things like Ecutek (for this car) or Real Dash (Stagea) are not supported. Plus those crippled versions tend to be slower due to both overheads and lower spec hardware. On the other hand, when this breaks I'll likely be in trouble for support....but how is that different to owning an Infiniti anyway
    • Yeah, Duncan is helping sell me back to Android devices. I've hated the whole Android head units due to their speed issues. Even in my old Hyundai Kona (2022 model), it behind the scenes was Android, and slow and shitty to start up. Once running wasn't bad, but still a good 15 to 30 seconds.
    • My roof rails are off atm on the E39 until the rust is fixed. I did find another little bit of surface rust under the rails when I took them off. As @soviet_merlin said I'd just leave them alone unless you're planning on ensuring they're properly sealed. I was on the fence about leaving them off as the delete is still a thing in BMW E39's but I feel like the car is missing something (er, it is, der) with them off and I'm looking forward to putting them back on.
