Hey pple,

Has any1 here heard the rumor that the state Govt (VIC) wants to introduce new laws saying that no car can be moddified behond exhaust/airfilter and rims. Thats NO OTHER MODIFICATIONS, even with a engineers cert. A guy i spoke to reckons that he read the papers for it and that the police will be trained on how to find 'illegal mods'. That means no coolers, turbos, no lowering nothing.

I dont reckon they will pass it coz think of how many businesses would go bust (and how many pples cars would suddenly become defects) Could be all BS but just wondering if any1 has heard nething

the law is already like that, there just not strict on it. There are SO MANY things they can pull you up on that its not funny, but even they see it as redicilous.

eg; your wing cannot be used unless it came standard with the car or a similar model, ie; GTR wing on GTS-T

A guy i spoke to reckons that he read the papers for it

Who is "this guy" and what are his "credentials" ?

Where did the information come from?

What official source, Police? Gov't? Hungry Jacks toilet?

In all honesty, an Engineer is there to approve modifications to any car to meet ADR requirements.

There are silly number of reasons a car would need modification, imagine old restorations etc.

Restorations might need modifications to pass a Engineers as the parts back 30 years ago are no longer avaliable and something else has been constructed in place of it.

Also for brake upgrades. Just over standard. They are hardly illegal as its benefiting the car.

I would very very much doubt that could change unless this is a legitimate source.

Until such a time as this come from an official course im not even going to worry about rumour and hearsay

Also... how is this going to work?

That means no coolers, turbos, no lowering nothing.

I mean... how can they defect you if there is no record of what the standard ride height is?

Thats just absurd.

A book with information like that...

Stock ride height

Stock wheel size

Stock I/C size

Stock whatever

... Is going to be 11ty billion pages long if its going to list every car to come into Australia over the past 20 years.

I'd like to see them get legitimate information on that note aswell.

Then there is all the "Limited Edition" models of car and stuff that might be slightly varied again

well regarding the actual law, it is illegal to modify a car at all.

Exhuast diameter change, anything.

From my knowledge anyways.

i could be totally wrong :D

no.. he's pretty much right.... rang epa today and a guy there told me that its illegal to change anything on a car that will throw out its emissions from the accepted emmision levels

allthough he said if for some magical reason your car passes the emmisions test with "illegal modifications" and you pay $2000 (approx) to take it to a certified emmisions test labritory and get a formal report done, that report will over ride the illegal modifications

hmmm so technically you cant even touch an engine as it will most likely result in changed emission levels from standard .... meh

its all gay to me

Hes no authority on the matter, but he did mention that he downloaded it from a govt webpage and that it said that an engineers certificate won't matter any more, no modifications except the ones listed will be legal, even if they apparently improve the car. I'm seeing him on Friday, ill get the details od the document coz knowing him he probably misread it

Yea thats what the cops will apparently have for every single car. Trust me it wont be that big of a book (you should see some Engineering books with standards and measurements). Plus they might even have it on a database in the computers they have in their cars. That wont be the main problem for them anyway, the biggest issue will be training all the cops to be able to search for and identify illegal components. As i said i will try to post up a link to the 'document' by the weekend. Hopefully hes full of sh(t and it doesnt exist

MEH, even if they changed the law so you had to drive a commodore or falcon in victoria and any other car is illegal as if 90% of the people would give 2 shits about it and drive what they want anyway.

Vic laws and bracks are a joke.

When the next vic re-election, later this year right? Send that f*king leb nazi back to germany

It's probably just this released by the epa in feb. To EPA Vic most mods are illegal until you prove they're not with their $2000 test :)

actually the test isnt theirs. it is privatised. the govt deemed it unneccessary a little while back. there are only a handful of labs that are willing to do the commercial testing. Ford, Mitsubishi, and a private lab do it. I think Toyota do it as well. and that test can start from $1500 onwards and if you fail, you have to pay again.

its all gay to me

I agree.

I reckon every car I have ever owned could be defected for anything the cop wants. They can find something if they want. I don't believe I'll ever have a 'standard' car so I'm doomed...

My mate went 4WDing a while ago and there were about 15 of em. Cops pulled em up and defected some of them and a guy said to the coppa, 'you can't defect my car, I only picked it up 2 days ago.' The cop said 'I bet I can!'

I believe as long as the modifications are reasonable and not dangerous they should be allowed.

It sucks, we'll always be fighting the law...

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
