Hi all, I'm new to this forum but have been a part of r31skylineclub.com for a while now..

I have a nice loan under my belt to the tune of $20,000 and am looking at buying an R34 GTT. I know a fair bit about 31's, 32's and 33's but the 34 is fairly foreign to me. Could any of you tell me what I should look for in an R34 and where to go for a good deal (I'm in WA).

Tim.

I've seen ads in the Autotrader for R34's selling at $21,000 - $25,000...

What I'm more concerned about is the condition of the car, how to pick if it's still 'good to go', things like AWD over rear wheel drive and turbo or non-turbo and all that other sh*t.

Talk to Paul at autoworx http://www.autoworx.com.au/ I think the majority of r34s coming into have gone through him, he can do compliancing, importing and also sells cars he imports himself.

No worries, thanks for that.

So do any of you know much about the R34's? Whether to go triptronic or manual, turbo or non-turbo, AWD or RWD, 4 door or 2 door etc etc..?? :/

You'd want to go for a 2 door coupe, manual, turbo.

They only come in RWD.

That would be the R34 that is worth the most (after a GTR ofcourse.)

That's assuming you wouldn't mind a non turbo just for looks, an auto for comfort, or 4 doors if you have a family.

Yeah you'd need at least 25k for a manual, turbo, 2 door but it will probably have high KMs and be a bit rough.

Budget for at least, 28-30k i reckon.

R34 topics

What's wrong with an auto sedan (it would be triptronic anyway?).

I don't mind paying far less for granny transmission.

The question is what right with an auto trans? Why buy a sports car and get auto? defeats the purpose.

starting line advantage? lol who cares?

only homosexuals and women buy auto sports cars. :D It's like driving a porsche boxter or a jeep wrangler, its just not right.

I would suggest test driving one at a car yard before making a purchase.

Homosexuals? An AUTO BF typhoon is currently the quickest 1/4 mile and 0-100 KM/H Aussie muscle car available! It beats manuals with more KW hands down... this not only goes for Falcons but for HSVs and even some Euros also! In a drag I rather an auto, with twisties then manual...

Putty, if you want an auto tip tronic then go for it...

Funny the new Porsche 911 Turbo is quicker in tiptronic auto than manual, guess Porsche are aiming at homos and women.

Get over jerking your stick.

    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
    • Could be falling edge/rising edge is set wrong. Are you getting sync errors?
    • On BMWs what I do because I'm more confident that I can't instantly crush the pinch welds and do thousands of USD in chassis damage is use a set of rubber jacking pads designed to protect the chassis/plastic adapter and raise a corner of the car, place the aforementioned 2x12 inch wooden planks under a tire, drop the car, then this normally gives me enough clearance to get to the front central jack point. If you don't need it to be a ramp it only needs to be 1-1.5 feet long. On my R33 I do not trust the pinch welds to tolerate any of this so I drive up on the ramps. Before then when I had to get a new floor jack that no longer cleared the front lip I removed it to get enough clearance to put the jack under it. Once you're on the ramps once you simply never let the car down to the ground. It lives on the ramps or on jack stands.
    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
