I assume the housing is still the Xenon but they butchered the wiring and fitted Halogen globes?

Yeah it has the xenon housing but it actually looks neat when they fitted the halogen globes. There is a spare plug there that is taped up. I havent got the origional parts but will be picking them up during the week.

I mean i don think its going to be as easy as fitting the origional ignighter and globe unfortunatly.

I hope you are picking up the entire headlight assembly along with any power gear required. Once the original unit has been converted to run halogens, it's a irreversible process from what I understand.

I had mine swapped back after compliance and it was a pretty big job - front bar needs to be taken off. Takes about an hour all up if you have all the right tools and know what you're doing.

and make sure you well seal the headlight once you're done.

Also, glue the parker light panel and globe housing thats held by 3 pieces as they tend to come off easily. Happened to me and I had to open the whole headlight just to fix that bit.

and make sure you seal the headlight very well. Yesterday i washed the car and the inside is completely fogged up because I didn't seal it after pulling it apart! Now I have to re-open it, clean it and seal it good.

oh and finally, don't overcook the headlight in the oven when melting the silicon sealing as everything tends to melt, especially the top headlight clips that are bolted onto the chassis.

There is a way to fit halogens to an R34 headlight without butchering the Xenon bits and pieces. Once compliance is completed the Xenon goodness can be refitted (by you or your workshop).

This however is about an hours? work and not all workshops know how or what theyre doing so destroying a perfectly good headlight is usually what happens.

I don't know what the issue is. Mine was converted to halogen and I converted them back.

If you're lucky, all they do to run the halogen's is to insert a metal plate in to the seat for the burners. This allows them to fit the halogen globe in there securely. All you do is remove the plate and the burners slot straight in.

Wiring up the ballast might be your issue, all I did was cut and join, then tape up with electrical tape and shrink wrap over it. Never had a problem.

The issue is that some are easy to convert back. Some have only had one control unit removed, some (majority of QLD complied cars) have the base of the lamp cut & the second unit removed from inside the assembly not that easy to reinstall. Some I have seen have had the entire globe base removed. And finally some have a flat insert that if the compliance company doing their job, they should have bent the reflectors in.

Additionally, you’re only playing with about 400 volts so make sure it’s well insulated.

I only drove the car at night for the forst time last night and the head light aim is absoloutly FKD!!$@#@$ I tried to adjust the aim but even on the lowest settings the aim is still way to high. Im guessing you pretty much have to remove the headlight to see if its worth attemption the conversion...

Ok this is the latest with the headlights on this car. I think i possibly have the most dody halogen conversion ever. I could not aim the head lights and they were weak as piss to the point it was dangerous to drive at night so i went to remove and inspect the globes. As i removed the globe i noticed like a ceramic ring had been put between the H1 globe and the back of the fitting to stop the globe falling through into the headlight and as i removed the retainer that was just grabbing one small corner of the globe the cermaic ring on both sides crumbled into bits!@@!@#@#!@@ Now also the guy that imported the car isnt going to let me take the parts that removed so im a bit pissed.

Whats the best option to temporarily hold my H1 globes in and what are the options for converting to Xenon? Is it economical to buy a complete xenon equiped headlight unit for the R34?

    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
    • When I said "wiring diagram", I meant the car's wiring diagram. You need to understand how and when 12V appears on certain wires/terminals, when 0V is allowed to appear on certain wires/terminals (which is the difference between supply side switching, and earth side switching), for the way that the car is supposed to work without the immobiliser. Then you start looking for those voltages in the appropriate places at the appropriate times (ie, relay terminals, ECU terminals, fuel pump terminals, at different ignition switch positions, and at times such as "immediately after switching to ON" and "say, 5-10s after switching to ON". You will find that you are not getting what you need when and where you need it, and because you understand what you need and when, from working through the wiring diagram, you can then likely work out why you're not getting it. And that will lead you to the mess that has been made of the associated wires around the immobiliser. But seriously, there is no way that we will be able to find or lead you to the fault from here. You will have to do it at the car, because it will be something f**ked up, and there are a near infinite number of ways for it to be f**ked up. The wiring diagram will give you wire colours and pin numbers and so you can do continuity testing and voltage/time probing and start to work out what is right and what is wrong. I can only close my eyes and imagine a rat's nest of wiring under the dash. You can actually see and touch it.

So I thought if I used my table of known values I could estimate it by putting a value into the pullup resistor, and this should line up with the voltages I had measured. Input 1 = 2.98V Output 1 = 50C Input 2 = 0.407V Output 2 = 150C (0.407-2.98) / (150-50) -2.573/100 = -0.02573 2.98/-0.02573 + 47.045 = 50 So the corresponding formula should be: (Input / -0.02573) + 47.045 = Output.   If someone can confirm my math it'd be great. Supposedly you can pick any two pairs of the data to make this formula.
