I dealt with him recently on an engine rebuild i performed for my car, he was most happy to answer my questions and info seeking, something ive found hard to acomplish with 99% of performance shops as people don't want to give out what they think are secrets, even with shops run by friends..

refreshing change to actually deal with someone who doesn't play secret squirell and gives a straight up, forward answer..

my cars better for it, if all shops behaved like he did, the world would be a better place, especially if they knew as much as he does..

thanks gary your a true asset to the entire sau community :)

also have puchased over $2000 in suspension gear and all arrived on my door step promptly without a problem, highly reccomended person to deal with.

cheers

Brad

Well after seeing this thread I would not like to know how many PMs he gets on a daily basis. And I dare say he answers every single one of them, no matter how simple the question/answer may be.

I have PM'd him many times in relation to choosing my Autronic, to coil pack issues to simply asking if a $50 plastic Bosch BOV is any good. I have always got replies promptly and when not promptly an apology was given lol. And as mentioned he always tries his best to explain things in laymans terms, and if you didnt get it he will explain it again....and again.... never with any frustration.

Regarding the thread starters querie I have never given him a cent but have received thousands of dollars worth of information and saved a lot of money from workshop bills as well.

Jayson.......

I can be a bit thick sometimes when trying to understand a setup or installation, and to be sure, I ask dumb questions, that could be annoying to some, but not SK, he is very patient and understanding and many thanks to him.

If he offered to build me a motor I'd buy it even if I didn't need it.

EDIT

I would like one of his build motors as a spare

  • 6 months later...

dont forget that he does work for a race team, and with the season in full swing and nearly finished, they (he) would be flat out to make sure everything was up to scratch to make sure they can finish the season

maybe he has been having a down couple o'weeks and hasnt had the time or energy to reply to anything - but rest assured that when he does he will be very apologetic

Did you blow another engine Felix?

Gary's got the knowhow and the experience behind his work, so you're guranteed good results. I'd recommend him to anyone... but then again given his interests and work he'd be quite busy, so be understanding.

although I dunno if I'd recommend you to him :)

Yup.. this dude is a champion in my book too!!!!

I've sent him numerous PM's asking about different suspension problems etc and he's always put in the tmie to respond in great detail the information I needed to know... there was nothing in it for him!

He doesn't do this because he has to, he does it because he wants to help SAU... he's such a great asset to SAU.

And I get the shits at people like felxi who try and bad mouth him just because he's a bit busy. He is a busy man, but I assue you when he can, he will get back to you and you will be one very happy customer.

SK is awesome.... great for technical advice; and even better for the infamous "Auto ECU debate"

You should be thankful that SK has offered you a RB30 - he doesn't offer these around to everyone and I'm sure a lot of people would seperate with vital organs to be in your position.

BTW; SK I've held onto all your PMs for future reference *nudge nudge*

I think I've already posted, but time to do it again. Sk has to be the greatest and most friendliest person on this forum. As stated numerous times before - free advice which is always 100% correct. He even took the time to come and chat to me when I was down in Sydney! Absaloute legend!

    • Was there ever a model of the Stagea m35 that didnt have a badge on the grill? I thought I saw that somewhere, some aero edition or something? I cant find it again? davemoto
    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
