i dont take it for granted but damn i always thought mx5 were slow fwd cars for hairdressers

Err they are (except for the fwd part)! Well non-turbo ones anyway.

Though the turbo SE is still only a 15 second car. He must have had some work done to it.

i was out driving last night in the 33 (exhaust, pod, intercooler, 12psi) and an mx5 came up beside me, guy had the roof down and looked over at me. thought, ok, lets go. anyway this guy took off, got a good lead on me and i couldn't bring him back in.

i thought these things were slow fwd cars?? how did this one go so well

WTF were you doing racing people on the streets? You're a DI(KHEAD.

Sounds like there's a lot of guys here with their heads nicely buried in the sand.

For the guys who think the mx5 is a 'hairdresser's' car... Get out and drive one, your opinion will change.

020R33, I think you should challenge the guy to a track race. Obviously it'll depend on what you've done to your car. But, with everything you've said about your car, and the 177kw you've got in your skyline(which looks nice by the way)... I'd be backing the SE mx5 to give you another a$$ kicking. It'd be a pleasure to watch as well.

Don't get me wrong guys, I love Skylines, the R32 GTR being me favourite, but if you're going to open your mouth about a car, save yourself the embarrassment and do some research first.

Here's s video, in car cam, of my MX-5 (1.8 NON TURBO, street tyres) vs. WRX STi 2-door:

PS: I own both an MX-5 and an R32 GT-R. I love them both for very different reasons. To cut it short, the GT-R for brute power, the MX-5 for it's amazing handling.

Nice one. I almost grabbed an MX-5 once but went with a Laser Lynx instead. Same engine but front wheel drive and a massive hatch area so really useful, plus it's heaps of fun to drive once I sorted the suspension out a bit and then setup oxygen injection for a neat 7.0s 0-100 performance. I always thought the MX-5 could do with a little extra punch but it's easy to overpower the chassis and then they just get difficult to drive. With a little suspension work they are lethally quick on a racetrack due to weight and balance. They do of course suffer from the low power so will not win the drag or on a long straight, but that low power means you can floor it in most situations and not light the rears. Makes for great confidence on the track and often that is as important as power.

Anyway you reckon you are an experienced fast car driver, but don't have a clue what else is out there. That is just ignorant and dumb. I also don't consider your previous cars fast, not even a little bit.

All that said though, some very basic improvements to a GTS25t will entirely destroy the MX-5 (and an S2000 which I consider a more worthy challenge) on circuit, especially if you can actually steer, but that's the rub isn't it? As asked before, can you actually drive? And why the hell are you racing on the streets? Tool.

And for the MX-5 guys coming on to try to beat things up, welcome but remember...

Teh GTR can Nevah Lose!!!!

bye bye thread.

If you want to get involved in street racing, that's your business, but don't come on here creating threads about it.

If you're interested in specs of particular vehicles, feel free to start a thread to that effect.

    • The filter only filters down to a specific size. Add to that, the filter is AFTER the pump. So it means everything starts breaking your pump even if its being filtered out.
    • Just like in being 14mm too small (296mm) makes it not fit, being 14mm too big (324mm) it also won't fit. You want to find the correct rotor.
    • @GTSBoy Ok so that was the shops problem...they showed R33 rotors on R34 page and i did not know 296 do not fit(and are for R33) Yes i bought "kit" with rotors and pads. Pads are ok(i have GTT calipers front and rear). They have some 324mm but no 310mm. So i dont know if they would fit. I have 17inch LMGT4s So another question. Can i fit those in the rear or they are just "too" big for that?
    • I started removing the tank a while back with the intent to give it a proper clean. Got to a bolt that I couldn't undo completely due to a diff being in the way, so just said f**k it and siphoned the gluggy old fuel out and called it a day. Looking it the tank it looks less corroded than the one in the pics for that billet hanger from Frenchy's anyway. Isn't it the fuel filters job to worry about this stuff? I scraped off most the crusty shit of the hanger but will give it another go before reinstall coz maybe the fuel and return pipes are also full of gunk
    • Pretty sure it is a common fault. I believe this is the only part you need, but don't quote me as I don't have a V36.  I also believe it is a bit of a pain to change and the device needs to be encoded to the car once it is replaced, so may need someone with the right tools.
