...my 2c. TD06 will go punch for punch with turbos in its power range.

But at the power figures you are looking at you will need a TD06-25G, again i think they are a better turbo then many of the Garrets getting around based on the results i have seen on a particular R33.

rods, make no difference

pistons, make no difference

cams.. some difference

Obviosuly you using slicks to run the 11 flat.

So GT30, 550hp version will do that for you on a bit of fuel.

I wouldnt used the trust, power delivery isnt the greatest

Well the thing that keeps me coming back to the Trust range of turbos is how my so called laggy turbo compares to some of the other Garret setups that are making the same power. With the exception of an R31GTS-R nothing is clearly better.

And i keep coming back to this plot of a std RB25 with HKS3040 setup with baby cams and Greddy plenum, compared to another RB25 with Greddy plenum and baby cams only it had TD06-25G setup

roy that dyno chart is with the td06-25g yes? it gets 327rwkw at 7500rpm, obviously has cams, but thats done on pump fuel? also comes onto fullboost a little late, 7,500rpm.. at what psi was it on?

My understanding is that it is on pump fuel.

the while story is that the 3040 did have a big A/R exhaust housing, and i dont think the tune was quite as sharp as that of teh 25G setup.

And NIB, sure post away but they wont mean anything as different dynos in different states. (and no offence but Perth was punching out some bizzare numbers there for a while with GT30s)

These two particular cars were at least on the same dyno, with the 3040 owner pretty sure that the 25G setup is the way to go. Both engones saw plenty of love at race/drag tracks/strips so they werent hand grenades either

Perhaps the interested parties (they know who they are) could confirm all the details that have left me a Turst groupie :bunny:

The 3040 comes on boost way later then the 25G, mostly due to the larger A/R housing. The 25G is making 176rwks at 4,500rpm and has just hit its stride @19psi.

...and yes im talkign out my ass based on the opinions of friends...and they are only dyno sheets. But based on the reliable info i knw of the 25G takes a lot of beating

oh ok fair enough, because on what i have researched, the 30/40 600hp BB turbo with a .82 exhaust housing could have fast spool and get 300rwkw safely and easily and the turbo is save to go anywhere between 20 and 38psi.

I know the bigger cams u get, the more power u make with less boost. So u get a pretty good step cam and a decent grind for your application. Everything ranging from fuel to the tune to the boost your running aswell as the turbo hasto mix perfectly, for the best result.

Can compare both Turbos on the same dyno.TDO6 have trouble with their thrust washers also.About 6 weeks ago we did a GTS club car swap from TDO6 to GT30 as the TD06 was way to laggy. Was chalk and cheese being a much more competetive car now.We had the same power with both but vasty wider power band with the Garrett.

That would be interesting to see.

TD06-what vs what model GT30

Interesting topic...

I did this same homework about 4-5 months ago...

I found after speaking to many people that the Trust TD06-25 was the best option for an Rb25 engine... 2 reasons. The autobarn sponcered R33 in sydney was and has been doing mid to high 10's for about 1 year now on pump fuel and still internally stock.

Secondlly you can get a whole kit from trust... I mean all the bits needed to make it all work for an r33 skyline. Including all washers/gaskets/pipes the lot... Only trust and HKS make such kits that include everyhting...

I hate hidden costs...

I spoke to Matt Spry about the right turbo choice also... His recomendation was to go for the Trust unit over the garrett as there are so many garrett turbos and design types who really knows what their getting... He mostlly aggreed with the kit idea for a DIY install...

He said HKS would be nice also but a little pricey... Then i enquired about the 11 second Trust kit with autobarn to find out it is $7900... So i gave up and decided to buy another house...

Where is this autobarn 10 second R33? Haven't seen or heard much about it, would be interesting to add another GTS-t to the drag ranks.

The 25G compressor is more like a GT35R sized comp wheel than a GT30R one, when something works why try to change it?

Call autobarn doughboy...

Thats where i heard about it...

One of their guys owns the car at head office in sydney. He is one of their purchasing officers or something. It has autobarn decals all over it.

I was told by autobarn virginia about the car after enquiring about getting a kit for mine.

I run a td06-25g on a 25det... make similar power (little more) than that shown in the above dyno graphs and swear by these turbos.

Also ran one (smaller trim) on my old SR20 - 180sx and have never had a problem.

As for ppl saying they are old hat and non responsive, I beg to differ, I make enough boost to REALLY throw you back in the seat by 3,800rpm which only increases through the rev range.

Have lined up a few cars with similar trim/specs + comparable garrett turbo's and left them wanting on more than one occasion and thats with a cracked turbo manifold and a less than flattering tune :P

Its easy to jump on the "new technology must be better" bandwagon... but as they say, if it aint broke, then why fix it and I reckon Trust are onto a winning recipe with these turbo's personally.

/2cents

Poor example graph IMO.

there is no way the HKS 3040 is that laggy. Simply no chance its only making 240rwkw @ 5800rpm.

There is something very much wrong with that comparison

considering my GT30 (garrett version) delivered power much smoother than that 25g graph.

Its not about making the numbers, its power delivery.

The older Trust turbos power delivery is snappy and that causes wheelspin. Yeah it makes the car feel fast as it comes on boost with a rush, but the GT30 i had was so progressive you didnt even know it was feeding in from 5 psi to 20psi

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
