Well, the plan would be to book the South Melbourne centre on a Sunday morning.

I have arranged for a representative of RCBS to come along to our next monthly meeting (August 15). She will be explaining the pros of blood donation (there are no cons!). I urge all SAUers to support this worthwhile community activity.

1 Hour every 3 months - is that so much to ask?

I would love to give blood, but I'm an ex-pom :(

(I'll have them know I'm as sane as the next coffee table)

I donated every 3 months in the UK, when I was a student I did it just for the free biscuits.

It doesn't hurt, hitting your funny bone hurts more. I would describe it as a mild stinging sensation at worst, and thats from the the local numbing injection, you don't feel the big needle.

The great thing is my partner can't donate either, being an ex-pom as well, but she's been vegetarian for the past 19 years, is the UK supposed to have mad spud disease as well or something?

They don't use a local in Oz, just ram the needle in, hoping to get it popping out through your shoulder :D

Guys what your planning is great!, I have been a regular donor for a few years now. Over in the west they have pretty big difficulties getting people in to donate. I have only had sort of bad occurance where it was difficult to locate the vein and once then found it the blood still would go halfway up the tube and stop.

I have a pretty rare type of AB blood so ever 2 weeks i am in donating plasma which is basically the white blood cells. They process approx 1.5 littes of your blood in 3 or 4 cycles. 500ml in 3 lots is taken in and spun in a centrfuge and the red cells stay an white seperated. It takes just over an hour which is nothing really. your red cells are then returned to you. so in reality you dont loose any oxygen giving blood capacity.

Oh and they give us free pizza here on a monday and wednesday nights.

Good luck guys.. and tell me when your doing this please.. I will donate by proxy in the Perth Blood bank if you want.

Just saw this thread now.

What's the dates for the UK thing?

Since I was born there in '81, I think it rules me out. But if not i'll come.

Unfortunately, there are some circumstances that will prevent people from giving blood. You will be permanently deferred if you:

• lived in the UK between 1980-1996 for a cumulative period of 6 months or more

• are HIV positive

• injected drugs not prescribed by a doctor or dentist

• have hepatitis B or C

• had open heart surgery

I'm a little disappointed I can't give blood for the UK reason. Especially since I have lived here since 1984.

Can you get a blood test or something first to clear your name?

Ask Debbie (Blood Bank person) on Tuesday.

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
