Hi all...

My girlfriend is a self confessed speed-a-holic and over a period of 2 weeks (about a month back) she copped 3 speeding tickets from Sydney's wonderful tunnel systems (2 in the Eastern Distributor and one in the Harbour Tunnel).

The speeds broken in all three cases lie in the first two brackets.

I am not happy about this, neither is she... all the fines have now arrived and she is very upset and concerned as she did not know about it until she received the first one and I explained that yes there are cameras in all tunnels!

Anyways, the very last one she received was taken on Good Friday (Double Demerits). Total fine was $200+ and 6 points. She received this fine yesterday through snail mail - letter only, no photo or anything - I'm not very cluey with this as I've never copped anything for speeding etc. etc.

Now she is on Green Ps and is elligible for a full liscence. As of now she has 3 points... if she takes this 6 pointer she will be on negative 3 which means loss of liscence. My question is this - if she goes for her full liscence immediately, will she be in the clear as the 6 points will technically come out of her Ps and not her full (I think the points are charged to the day of the offence).

If anyone has a solution or suggestion, I'd like to hear it please... thanks in advance for your time and brainpower

Question is will they take the points away from the Ps or the Full Liscence....

Is this what you mean...

1) Go sit Full Liscence

2) Go pay fine

3) They take points away from Full Liscence

4) Green Ps not even considered

Thanks for your help!

my brother did this when he was on his p's a few years back now.

exactly the same situation.

I think they've changed the law recently, so that they consider your license at the time of the infringement rather than at the time of settlement.

Not entirely sure, so best check with the RTA.

That is the case Stan,

Check RTA Website to see if these points have been put on her licence - http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/myrta/myrecords/index.html?llid=14

I was in the same situation, i got caught speeding over 6 months ago, i was advised to send the RTA letters to prolong the court appeal so i could go for my green P's but i didnt get time or money to go for them. It would have saved me quite a bit of money and time without a licence if i had done that.

Two weeks ago i was pulled over by RBT twice in 2 days and lost 2 points each time for driving a manual on an auto licence, this then put my points up to 12 on my red P licence which is only allowed 4 points and then disqualification...

[bold]FCUKING NSW RTA!!!![/bold]

Hope this info helps.

there is only one way to find out mate. tell her to go and get her full licence now. then pay the fine, then see what happens. i think it may not work, but if it does then she will be a happy camper.

yes..

as beer baron said. do it and see.. cant hurt

Yes Stan, as Greg and Richard both suggested, try that

I thought the RTA had a rule, that you couldnt sit for a test if you had unpaid fines???

And point out what the "Speed Camera Ahead" signs mean in the tunnels - im not being a smartass, this isnt the first time ive heard a story about the tunnel cameras, and someone NOT seeing them

Also you have just stumbled on her next Bday/anniversary/whatever present...........you can shout her to a trackday at Wakefield park - only $80 for all the speeding she wants

hang on... if she loses 6 points for the double dermerit offence, what about the other 6 (you said 2 other speeding tickets in the lower bracket - does that mean 3 points each there) she will also lose?! that would mean a loss of licence regardless of what she does?

or did i misread? ;)

stan i did this about 2 years ago..

worked for me..

You can try but I'd say she's going to have to cop the suspension.

That's what you get anyhow for speeding on double demerits, and speeding in the tunnels, they DO have clear signs saying there's cameras.. it's her own fault for being so reckless.

The two other fines were each 3 points... the Corolla is registered in her mum's name so her mum copped one at 3pts and she copped the other at 3points.

If it wasn't for the DD weekend, she'd be sweet on 0 points. But being a DD weekend, it's now a 6 point exercise.

I will advise her to do what everyone has said - clearly it has worked for some, let's hope it does for her. Otherwise I'm going to have 3 jobs; accounting, business owner and driver :(

THANK YOU EVERYONE - OWE YOU ALL A BEER!

stan, 6 points is a suspension anyway.

btw you dont loose points, you gain points. if you are allowed up to 6 points (i thought it was 7 on green ps though?) then 5 is ok, 6 is suspension.

It can't hurt to go to the RTA. You can try take the test- they either knock you back, or you end up getting the full licence. I'd pay one 3 point fine first on the P's, then go for the fulls - if they let you get the fulls pay the other 9 points worth of fines and you're left with 3 points on your full licence.

Slim chance but nothing to lose by trying it out.

    • (it is a brand new ported mellings pump) I suspect the lack of pressure is due to the leak. It was *not* that low in other logs of oil pressure in the past. It wasn't that hot either, but not far off.
    • Would a Mellings oil pump be a viable option  From my time with a LS, and talking to tuners and LS specialists, the "weak" OEM oil pump is one of the first things they recommend to swap out if I was going to give the engine any high RPM I opted for a Mellings high volume, with the high pressure springs and I never had a issue with it Cost wise they are not expensive in the scheme of things
    • Just bought a 2002 Stagea 250tRS VR-X Four AERO VQ25DET and spent the last two weekends cleaning and detailing it.. still have to do the wheels and the engine bay but the rest of it came up nice. Imported 2011 to S.A. and I'm the third owner since it was imported. I met the guy who brought it over, he went to Japan and picked out the car, bought it and ordered the wheels. He also gave me a list of stuff he did to the car with receipts. Coil overs (I have the original springs), 3" exhaust from the dump pipe back no cat, Custom dump pipe,(I have the original exhaust), Plenum spacer, 18" custom Work XSA wheels (need restoring, I've made a start..), Shift kit put through the 5 speed tiptronic auto, TV and menus/screens changed to english, Australian DTV tuner installed in rear. I've just had four new discs and new pads as well as all the fluids including the brake fluid replaced. I have all the receipts for the last 15 years and the import papers in a nice folder. Car looks great, goes like hell but fuel economy is not a thing lol.. pics next..
    • I ended up in this rut again lol, and used a shit ton of filler. One thing I can't understand is, even after using a big long block and going in long X pattern strokes, I always end up at bare metal again with no filler, and my repair started at one end of the door and now I've chased my tail to almost the other end of the door. I was thinking of hitting the panel with a hammer where it might be a high spot and making everything low then filling it, I did this on a small section on my other door by mistake and I think I fixed it lol. Is this a bad idea? The other thing is with guidecoat, whether it's the powder or spray, after I sand all the guide coat off, it doesn't reveal anything for me in terms of high spots and low spots and makes it especially hard when it's bare metal (at least in powdered form), am I doing something wrong here, or likely a high spot I keep going over and creating valleys? Lastly, stupid question but, is it possible that after sanding if I only sand over the filler area where I know to be a dent that it's impossible for me to dig into that dent? Unless there are other problems which I missed.
