hey, basically i have what i think is a very stock r32 gts-t 4 door. all it has is a 2nd hand 3inch catback exhuast and it is getting over 150kw's on turbo tunes dyno which has recently been re-calibrated.

just want to know why it is getting such a figure. i was told on ns.com is could be a "freak engine" but im more suspicious of something like a hi-flow turbo or ecu remap that i cant see.

so yeh, what u guys rekon?

From the look of your AFR's it seems to be running lean...when it runs lean it'll make more power, but is not very safe...

I would look into getting a cheap SAFC which will fix your afrs and make the car alot safer.

13.5 AFR is pretty dangerous, should sit around or below the 12.

But it's not 13.5 as it clearly dips below it. I'd say it probably is somewhere around the 12 mark in the top end.

The dyno dosen't look like it has been done in shootout mode. Therefore the figures could be somewhat unreliable. I know you say that it has been re-calibrated, but that could mean that they made it read higher than it should. How does the car feel on the road? does it feel like you have 150? Dynos are simply a tuning tool, that's it. If you want to brag to your friends about power then you need to take it to the real dyno which is the strip.

And shootout is reliable?

Now Im not having a go at you here this is a genuine question.....if everyone was to use shoot out mode would it make results more compareable every where in the country or is there a lot of varience in shoot out results too??

For that boost level, cat back and those A/F ratios I would say 130 rwkw is about right. The dyno must be a bit "happy" to get 150 rwkw

The real question is, why are the A/F ratios so good? Maybe ECU chipped, pull the cover off and have a look.

It is certainly not a high flow turbo as the boost drops off just like a standard one.

:P cheers :)

Mate i really dont think you have a "freak engine" considering

1. The dyno was not on shootout mode-therefore isnt really comparable to anyone elses dyno results

2. For those mods, not even a freak engine could make that sort of power, considering dead stock a RB20DET puts out about 110-120 at the rears if that, so from the mod you've done (only half ur exhaust system really) it may have gained 30-40RWKW...Dont reckon thats possible.

Your in South Australia, so next time you get the chance to dyno it take it to a better place i.e. Boostworx, Morpowa etc. etc.

just my thoughts

Why would ya be having a go? :P

As much as Dyno Dynamics would like it to be exact, it sadly isnt.

There are too many ways to fudge stuff if you wanted too, and its not that difficult.

Just use the dyno for before/after/tuning and the figure as an "approximate" that has a variance of 15rwkw either way is what i do generally.

Well you have to understand that the main reason shootout mode exists is to make results more comparable between different dynos. Not saying that there can't be variances, but there is limited scope to purposely fudge the figures. One of the few things that you can do to play with the results, is with regard to the intake temp - puting the sensor somewhere that it shouldn't be etc.

yeh I don't think I have this "freak engine" but I just want to find out why such a high reading. The guy at turbo tune(Mark) simply rekons the engine is a good engine.

I have already posted a similar topic on ns.com but I figured id post it here as u guys would know more. Here's a link http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...opic=157447&hl=

as u can see mark from turbo tune replied to my thread

our dyno does not read high, :( in fact at one stage it was reading 10rwkw less than it shoud :S , and has recantly been re-calibrated....

nisskid, feel free to bring ur car back if you want to do another run on the dyno wile you watch, we will look after you with the price....if thats what you decide to do. :woot:

line up of the best of the best!!!

I also wouldnt mind showing this, it is marks car for sale which pulls 165kw on the same dyno as mine, have a look at the mods list: http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...opic=157348&hl=

and that sounds bout a right figure for those mods, so i dont think the dyno could be running that high.

hey mate,

just see what happens, next time u need to get something done regarding tuning to your car, id take it somewhere different to see what your car pulls on another dyno. At least then it will confirm if your engine is just fresh or whatever. But otherwise, id just take it as a fairly high reading and wouldnt think too much of it. The power is really only comparable to something else ON THE ROAD. Which then there is far more reliance on the driver etc. etc.

alright, i have firestone 205's and when booting it will loose the rears when i hit about 5krpm, then into second they keep spinning for a second or 2.

dunno if that gives u an idea of how much power it feels like. it feels alot faster than my mates CA auto 180sx, and faster than my brothers statesman which is about 125rwkw.

The only way to compare dyno graphs is to have a "dyno day" where a group of cars get together on the same day, at the same dyno, operated by the same people.

It is only then can you compare against someone with similar mods. Or you can see how a combination of mods work and don't work.

At the last Vic dyno day i had the highest power figure but saw how shit my tune was compared to others, thus i was missing some bottom end response.

maybe you need to teach the dyno operators how to set the graphs up to. to have AFR scale from 10->44 is absolutely stupid. as others have said, AFR looks too good (but cant tell for sure due to scale), so there could be soemthing going on there.

    • Hello, sorry for being late to join the discussion, but my clock just died on me.   Ive tried to look at Michaels digital clock repair.docx and it doesnt work maybe the file has expired.   Please let me know if you can re upload it or take some youtube videos to show us how to get the clock installed? thanks
    • I thought that might be the case, thats what I'll start saving for. Thanks for the info
    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. Rb25det s1 walbro255 fuel pump nismo fpr holset hx35 turbo fmic 3" exhaust freddy intake manifold q45tb q45 maf   Re: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Fri Apr 12, 2013 5:07 am No, I didn't. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
