What a fun day out...

NEC was the major sponcer of the event and me being a major reseller of there products i got a couple of corperate tickets for yesterday. So we drove about 2 hours to get to the town of imbul and might i say it was quite a nice drive.

Once there we parked and got a shuttle bus down to the event stages. Once arriving at the corperate box and discovering there was a jump right in front of us. The beer was chilling and the porta potties were close by. I took the mrs with me on this event and a couple of the boys from work.

Then came along one of the rally car drivers to come up and bush sholders with the corperate folks. While this was happening i went for a little walk to check out the course and might i say it looked hard on the cars and drivers. Once i returned we had a roast lunch and a few more beers and a glass or two of red wine.

Then out comes the course car and bang we are into the group A cars... I thought the other cars were fast, but i was wrong. The toyota Corolla team car hit the jump at about 120kph and landed 20 metres down the road and then the lancer and then the ford focus... WOW...

Here are some of the better photos from the day.

I had a ball and wish i got some hot laps. The WRX i was surposed to go in broke its front tail shaft and ended up being towed. But the rest of my group had heaps of fun.

Pic enjoy.

that was Coates Rally Queensland. Some nice pics there Col.

for those who want to go and spectate at a rally, here's what's coming up:

* Aug 12, Round 3 KCF Short Course Series, Jimna.

* Sept 9, Goodyear Auto Service Centre Classic Rally, Gallangowan

* Nov 4, BioGanics Cooloola Rally, Gympie

Rumour has it that a few top Classic rally cars from NZ might be coming over for Gallangowan. John Spencer has been running his awesome Datsun 1600 over in NZ all year and a few of them are keen to come and do an event over here. That would be worth seeing. difficult event for spectating though. Stages start at Beerburrum, then go through Woodford, Jimna, and out to Gallangowan. Have to see what their spectator instructions are closer to the event.

here's a couple of pics of my rather unglorious foray into rallying a couple of years ago...

I stick to service crewing now! lol

Memories of past glories. Competing at QRC at Jimna and all the other awesome rallies. Looking forward to getting back, picking up 60-80acres at Dayboro and being a short but fun drive from the main rally centres, and Lakeside.

Nice catch Col.

Yeah it was awesome event. I too was out in the Forest taking pics as well as being at the start and finish

believe he's been running the Lseries in NZ. He has an FJ24 in the S12 Silvia he bought off Michael South last year, and has run that a couple of times up here.

Spencer is definitely quick. Seems to have a bit of trouble with mechanical frailty but very impressive to watch. I've seen him at Jimna, and watched vision from Otago NZ. Worth following.

Saturday's times before he DNF'd due to oil loss he was running pretty similar times to Dave Gaines in the Cruisin Auto Spares 240K. Dave is no slouch either and runs on the board to prove it.

Another 2wd car worth watching for its pace was the Menzies Falcon.

Guest's car seems more of a stop gap PR exercise for Ford this year until they get the S2000 specs sorted out. The Focus is a real work of art to look at, and seems very well engineered.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
