Hey all,

Just found this video

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1914692207624681889

I know the bike is not a Moto GP bike so I'm not showing it for that purpose.

I was surprised to see how much faster the F1 was in the second race (sorry for wrecking it). The way it accelerated away was pretty impressive.

Cheers

yeh baby thats what I like to see the 4 wheelers spanking the bikes :)

LOL 1st time for everything I guess.............

Anyways, F1 car (4million $$?) vs a Superbike (roughly 80grand tops, if engine has been prepped)..... hahahahahahaha bikes rule. Power to weight ratio and dollar value come out on top in my book.

yeh they do, but if was to go up a curb, id rather do it in a car than a bike

boy am i sick of hearing how fast f1 cars are compared to xyz try putting a ton of downforce on the bike and then see how quick it is, better yet take the downforce from the f1 and see how slow it is...

In a straight line, an F1 would be faster without all that downforce........ until it took off like an aeroplane :P

not sure if an f1 car can even do a sub 10 sec 1/4, superbike definatly can.

take off like an aeroplane??? stop giving these cars superhuman powers a funny car is way faster and it doesnt take off like an aeroplane!

anyhow 700 odd kg and 800odd bhp vesus 200odd kg with rider and 250 odd bhp you do the math! there aint much between them once downfoce is taken away. if the f1 went past it on the straight its because its corner exit speed is so high (wanna take a guess why).

Did you even watch the video? The car does do a 9 second quater...

And yes, funny cars are faster, but they have an incredibly long wheel base coupled with a shape that gives them maximum downforce where its needed while maintaining aerodynamics. Oh yer, you ever tried to get a funny car around a corner under power? I didnt think so, because THATS NOT WHAT THERE DESIGNED FOR.

Im going to assume you were joking about the "giving these cars super powers" comment, because if you couldnt understand his clearly written comment, he is saying that if they did not take advantage of downforce over the wheels the car has no way to maintain the strong contact with the ground required at these speeds/RPM and would either wheelspin all the way through the run, or flip backwards as there is nothing holding it down.

Think/read/watch before you post

Idiot...

Kthxbye

shit a whole nine secounds thats sooo much faster than bikes... i see guys at wsid with pretty std r1's doin 10sec passes

as to your second para, im just saying its stupid compairing anything thats not asisted by downforce with something that is (its like putting mike tyson in a fight with my sister and praising him for how well he faught) and if you took away the f1's downforce advantage you would see that there is really not much between them and that they are really not that impessive. as for the funny car coment it was only in relation to the fact that it was quicker and didnt take off like an aeroplane i was not comparing its ability to go around corners dont try to put words in my mouth and than attemt to attack me.

no the f1- probably wouldnt backflip yes it would wheelspin just like the rest of the competition without downforce which is exactly my argument IDIOT...

maybe you should take your own advice and think/read/watch then post.

the point of an F1 car is to make huge power in the top end of revs. If you were to drag the F1 car vs any track bike on the planet for one whole mile istead of just a 1/4 mile you would see that any bike will get eaten.

The argument agaist downforce is rediculous... its an F1 car vs bike... if you take the wings off it would be car vs bike... why dont we take the bike and add nitrous... because then its not a superbike anymore. Its not "if it had this" or "maybe if you change that" things would be different... jesus christ, thats why its called a "comparison"

AFAIK bikes dont have any traction issues once there off the line, so theres not much point in having downforce which only has an effect at ~100km/hr+, it will only further slow it down.

you have the power to weight ratios off a little too, going by a 2006 R1's weight

173kg dry weight + 70kg rider = 243kg with 250hp

250/243 = 1.02 hp/kg

F1 car + driver = 600kg with 800hp

800/600 = 1.33 hp/kg

F1 is on top, even if the F1 weighed 700kg's which it doesnt, it would still be on top.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
