agreed. i thought I was a very patient person until now...

Still dont have my car...obviously things are taking a little longer than expected. :P

Will have it today or tomorrow at the latest. Will have plenty more to say after I get it, but for now I'm gonna keep my mouth shut.

dude youre gonna love it!!! and good luck!

but i agree about the being patient bit. i was calling up every day for 2 weeks till i got the car. feel i got the run around a bit. but its all good i got it now!

finally... thanks to RS FOUR for selling me my rear spoiler.. not bolted up yet cause the paint shop reckons it needs a day to properly cure.

And here's my new stagea...after 2 and a bit long months of waiting...she's finally "home".

Drove it around all afternoon...wish I was still driving it!!! :-D

Enjoy...

Excellent stuff mate.

Very nice finish on that paint. Smooth :P

Enjoy! (Yeah, like you won't) :)

hehe, I'm all outa cash at the moment so it'll be stock for a long while...

Either way I kinda regret modifying the previous stagea to the level I did, it never drove quite as nice as when we first bought it.

I must be getting old or something - I'm enjoying the quiet, smooth, comfortable ride in the new one and it also feels plenty fast enough for a wagon (I'm sure I'll want it to go faster pretty soon though).

But after the amount I spent on the last one and seeing what the car became, I sorta think it'll be a nicer car for a lot longer if I just leave it as is. :P

Still cant believe how nice it drives...

hahah i rekon it IS age, im ejoying the comfy ride too. and it kicks ass for a wagon, no one expects it to pickup speed like it does, especially in sydneys eastern suburbs.

hehehe,

M35: toasting BMW X5's everywhere! :P

f*ck I want one soooooooooo bad.

its faster than an X5?? im ok with that :P i havent really had an opportunity to give it some stick from the lights etc. but it moves when i want it to. i wish the gearbox was a little faster however..... still happy!!!

So yours takes a little longer to shift sometimes? I've noticed mine tends to be a bit laggy on the kickdown and if i put my foot to the floor, it feels as if its slipping pretty badly and doesn't really take off that well. I've acheived the best acceleration by easing the throttle in. Slamming it to the floor on takeoff just seemed to overload it and it made a lot of noise but wasn't that quick. Felt like something was slipping - not sure if its the clutch packs not engaging properly or the trans slipping a little. On another note, i have a guage on my dash saying "front torque" measured in N-m x 10. It only seems to make it to about 3 on the guage - meaning only 30 N-m. I'm sure the needle should go higher. I'm talking about when its in "synchro mode" - which I thought was 50-50 split (although I haven't seen the needle move at all when not in this mode - even on hard launches). Hoping my guage is wrong. Everything else seems to work however. And it does feel quick when I give it a bit of stick. :O

Took this pic the other night as I was leaving work - Looks awesome I reckon!

Pity it was only my phone camera though.

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
