Hi Guys,

I saw a group buy post for redline oil and was considering getting some for my GTST (I use it in the GTR and it's great). Group buys are good but I wanted to make sure I was getting the best deal as generally it's pay up front then wait, wait, wait so the saving needs to be good to make it worth while. It turns out I can get a better deal here for us in sydney. Unique Autosports a long time SAU supporter has agreed to do a group buy price for us of $90 per bottle of Redline Lightweight Shockproof (as used in the UAS 300ZX, stock gearbox, 400++kw, slicks, still working after years of punishing on track!)

Now the details are:

company providing the product: UAS

product: redline lightweight shockproof oil, 3.785 litre bottle

quantity: need 10 people, if we get more may be able to get a further discount

close date: Friday 28/7/06

Price: $90

retail: ~$135 (depends where you go)

collection from: Unique Autosports, Castle Hill Sydney (open monday-saturday)

postage cost: $15 local NSW $20 rest of AUS.

UAS have plenty in stock and can get more fairly quickly. If you are interested please post the following information here:

what you want

whether pickup or post

where you are (state, city, postcode)

NOTE: I didnt want to step on anyones toes, but i always thought group buys are supposed to be primarily for the benefit of the members so I just wanted us to get the best deal. I understand the other group buy guy was helping us out and furthering his friends business at the same time which is cool but I just dont think the price was that good considering there is a 4 week wait. But if you are in perth or places far from NSW the other group buy may work out a few $$ cheaper, but with a much longer wait. The beauty of this one is no long waiting perioid and for sydney guys it's very cheap if you are willing to pick-up.

They may also be able to do other types of redline product if there is enough interest, but for all manual skylines this stuff is the absolute best. It's very worthwhile.

Also, for those who dont want to get your hands dirty and your driveway messy UAS can do the oil change for you. With a booking first of course. I will confirm tomorrow with UAS on the labour cost of that.

no worries. Pretty sure 1 will do the box, but i'll check with the workshop manual. adam, for your box you will need ATF though, or is there something i don't know :D:P

any idea if a bottle will fill an R32 GTS-t box?

i'm pretty sure it will, but i'm at work, and don't have the ability to research those facts here :)

put me down as being interested in this, would have to be posted to Brisbane

I'll check again tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure 1 bottle is enough, it's either that or you will need one big one (3.8l) and one small one.

postage to brisbane is no problem.

hi guys, i've spoken to john and they can do the oil change for you for $40. this includes draining the old oil, refilling with the new stuff and the displosal of your old stuff. of course if you want them to change it please ring and make a booking first, but it should be pretty much while you wait.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok folks as of next week I'll conclude what we call phase 1. This will mean any of you dudes that want your oil now can either pick it up, or have it posted to you. I have gathered a few other dudes i know together so we will have enough people.

sorry mate!

ok guys, to make payment and get your oil simply go to:

http://www.nismo.com.au/order_form.htm and fill out the order form and follow the payment details. Please put on your order "Beer Baron group buy" or "SAU group buy" so they know to charge you the correct price etc. All the details on price etc are in the first post. Please post up here when you have placed your order.

Thanks. :P

Don't worry about it, I need it tomorrow so i'm going to have to fork out and get it at $135

Hi mate,

If you are in Sydney you can pick it up straight away. no need to wait. Just rock in there and tell them you are from the Beer Baron group buy  If interstate it could be a problem though!

All you other guys try and get your orders in. The sooner the better as it's much nicer if we can get the orders in over a shorter period :D

    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
