If you contact Advanced Imports

http://www.advan.co.nz/enquiries.php (Australian site obviously)

speak to Peter, these guys have a mother company in NZ where they are keen on Mines ecu's so he may be able to advise. They were going to install a dyno and bring their tuner over once a month.

Franks-:

Ric Shaw is at

35 Parramatta Rd Five Dock NSW 2046

ph: (02) 9798 5713

he knows Skylines and Power FC's - his wifes Skyline has an fc and flowed turbo and gives 240kw on his dyno. He charged me $250 to tune mine from scratch and I got 180kw with a screwed engine (since been rebuilt).

C&V charged $300 and I had to take the car back cause of uneven idle and knock sensor light coming on. Car runs better but has a slight backfire (timing?) and on their dyno I got 162kw with the new engine. (I know each dyno reads different)

I would highly recommend UniGroup.

I've been to 2 Dyno Days (just power runs) with those guys and they act and work in a very professional manner.

When I find another bank to rob and get myself a PowerFC i'll have no doubts in knowing where to take my car.

They are located at Girraween. http://www.unigroup.com.au for more info.

With your car i'd be expecting 185+ rwkw

bonkers that sounds like a really strong recommendation! i might have to give them ago! and better yet their so close to me!

just rang lachlan, sounds like a good bloke and was pretty confident with their tuning and powerfc tuning in particular. only problem is they dont open on weekends!!! "too busy racing" !!! RESPECT!!!

They have days where they hire tracks and go testing - have been to a Wakefield day with them - Ric was happy to come out a give pointers - and the rule was that all race cars that went had to have a passenger seat fitted and be prepared to take plebs for rides - good day that was!

Oh franks - they have a steep drive into their workshop, if you go see them double check they can get your car in - it looks pretty low with that 400r bar.

Bonkers: thanks for that Bonkers, Advance Imports probably sounds the best atm, as they can tune mines ecu. Probably will give them a call in a wk or two, once the money tree starts blossooming again.

so Ric Shaws wife drives a skyline to? wOoo ... scary couple mate ... hahah..

Anyways thanks for the advice Bonkers

  • 2 weeks later...

ALL I CAN SAY IS DONT GO TO *****. THEY HAVE A GOOD HABIT OF BLOWING GTR MOTORS. THEY RUN THE CAR TOO HARD TO GET TOO MUCH POWER OUT OF IT AND THEY BLOW!!!

I HAVE HEARD THEY HAVE BLOWN OVER 4 GTRS INCLUDING AN R34.

THE REASON I SAY THIS IS MY GTR BLEW AT xxx THEY WERE VERY CARELESS. I WENT TO TUNE MY PFC THERE AND CAME OUT WITH A SMOKING MOTOR.

WHAT THEY DID WAS RAN THE CAR ON THE ORIGINAL COMPUTER AS HARD AS THEY CAN TO GET INITIAL FIGURES. OBVIOUSLY I WAS THERE TO INSTALL THE PFC TO GET RID OF THE OLD JAP COMPUTER AS IT WAS PROBABLY LEANING OUT. 3 RUNS LATER THEY SAY THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND IT WAS F....D. AND PLEASE TAKE NOTE, MY CAR WAS NOT RUNNING ANY BOOST AT THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE ASKED THEM TO PAY FOR IT AND THEY SAY NO. THE PISTONS CAME OUT OF THE CAR AND THEY WERE CRACKED. UNFORTUNATELY THE PISTONS HAVE BEEN THROWN AWAY AFTER REBUILD SO I DONT HAVE MUCH OF A CASE WITH TO HOLD AGAINST THEM AT THE MOMENT.

THE CAR NOW IS REBUILT AND WAITING TO GET PFC TUNED AGAIN. IM GOING TO AUTOSPORT AT KIRRAWEE. CROSS MY FINGERS AND SEE HOW I GO!!

(edited by B-Man - sorry people, no names. These are the forum rules.)

Bugger... I almost forgot about this thread...

Just spoke to Ric and he said he would do us a group discount depending on the number of cars that are to be tuned.

I got a price to just have my car tuned and he said $300 (this is just for my car), then depending on the number of cars that are definatly going to be there to be tuned he will work out a discount.

Depending on the number of cars invloved he said that he might be able to do them in one day but it will be a case of having to be there early for your turn and maybe waiting around a little.

Remember that they are not open weekends, and cars with quite low front lips may have difficulty getting on and off the dyno.

Ric can tune r32 GTRs on his dyno and also has access to a 4wd dyno if other GTRs are looking to be tuned (would have to be on a separte day though, still the same price).

Possible date would be Tuesday the 29th of April.

Post here if you definatly want you power fc tuned in this deal.

Dan.

Administrators,

Why is it that you can give a good plug about a workshop but you cannot help your fellow car friends and warn them about bad workshops?

I have had a bad experience with my car and had the engine blown with a certain workshop, and would like to share my story. After a person has read my fictional story, he/she can make up their own mind if they wish to do their work at this workshop or not. Shouldnt we let everyone make their own choices with good facts!

    • What a wonderful journey to read. Loved the photography. Literally found this an hour ago and couldn't stop reading, plus checking out a couple of the links. Was interesting as you had a few mods very similar to my sons Gtt, including the sheetmetal homemade V-Spec II rear diffuser, can't be too many of them around the world. Only to find it sold about three weeks ago. Well at least I won't have to keep re-visiting for updates. Anyway, well done on not just the car but the well written story and descriptions, and of course the pics. Good luck on your next one. Rob
    • Forgot to update. I ended up removing it and found out that it's dead. The car seems to run better than it did, although I haven't driven it hard yet. Literally just a flow restriction.
    • Sounds like the rack seals blew.
    • ^ This is all good advice. I can imagine that there's some passive components in the HVAC controller that run that PWM output that could die, or suffer bad solder joints. It can be worth opening it up, taking a schmooze around looking for swollen electro caps, evidence of liquid escape anywhere, tracks that have been hot, lifted, cracked, etc. A DMM might not be suitable for seeing if the PWM output is pulsing. Might be too fast and too low voltage for a DMM to keep up. An analogue voltmeter might give a better hope. I use a handheld oscilloscope (<$100 from Aliexpress if you want something cheap). A DMM might see the voltage across the motor flicker. Otherwise, as above. If you can successfully see PWM action, then the control side should be good. If you can't see it with what you have, you might need to step up the instrumentation used, as above. Beyond that, and dbm7's advice on testing the motor directly, you're down to looking for broken wires, corroded connector pins, etc.
    • So Thanks for the comments etc. To follow up on this, we went down the path of fitting a divider down the middle of the external pipe that was added to the exhaust manifold and the divider went from very close to the external wastegate all the way up to the "V" part where the pipes from each side of the manifold joined. After this modification it was finally in a position to do the dyno-tune with some degree of success. Top end power was down about 10kw (250rwkw down to 240rwkw) I believe from previous but it seems to be more responsive lower down and at least it is now driveable and fun and back on the road to be enjoyed. Apparently the timing couldn't be run the same as it was running into knock and boost was down about 1psi. For all we know this could have been from the fuel being a bit older, or perhaps some slight complication from the new head gasket as we didn't have compression figures from before that mod to compare. I'm no mechanic and this is second hand info but I just wanted to follow-up to those that commented or read the original post with interest. After so many months of stuffing around this is a big win. The interesting part was most of the info around this was gained from information around Barra motors and not GTR as the manifold setup on the Barra with single turbo was more similar.  Thanks for those that helped with info. Regards Rob
