Police blitz Monash Freeway

Mon 10 July 2006

Police are giving motorists one days warning about a 24-hour traffic operation along the Monash Freeway that will run for the next month.

Operation Linker involves traffic police from Regions 1, 4 and 5 and will target speed, mobile phone use and vehicles that are following too closely.

Assistant Commissioner (Region 4) Bob Hastings said Operation Linker was the first of its kind along the Monash Freeway.

“Operation Linker is a unique operation designed to address the specific problems police see along the Monash Freeway,” Assistant Commissioner Hastings said.

“Police will be targeting the 51-kilometre stretch of road from Melbourne through to Beaconsfield.

“The Monash Freeway is utilised by thousands of Victorians every day. Through sustained enforcement efforts combining traffic resources from three Regions, this operation is designed to decrease side-swipe and rear-end collisions commonly caused by speed, mobile phone use and following too closely.

“Operation Linker aims to make the Monash safer for all motorists.”

The operation will begin Tuesday 11 July and conclude on Monday 7 August.

Seven people have died on the Monash Freeway since 1 January 2000.

There were 4,695 collisions on the Monash Freeway between October 2000 and August 2005. Of those, 82% of collisions involved cars, 12% involved heavy vehicles and motor cycles and other vehicles accounted for the remaining 6%.

What about the collisions police don't get involved with? Who counts those?

Good to see it targetting a broader range of offences.

Hang on, just realised this is the Monash and not the Princes! Damn I use this most days. Where were they this morning when some t|t decided to sit on my rear bumper as I passed a truck at 100kph!

Have noticed probably over the past month the increase in police patrolling the Monash freeway in general espec between the Warrigal - Jacksons road area..

For any that do travel near Jacksons road be careful speed slows to 80 just before the off ramp and the police have been know to sit in this area to catch the ones over 80...

Sad thing is even with this warning people will still get caught speeding or doing something stupid…

Slow down and make sure it’s not you….

i think these sort of posts are utterly ridiculous, not bagging no one, ok

paul

if your doing the right thing you wont get caught, or need to read this, i travel the monash fwy from warrigal to burke road everyday ... never had problem, seen plenty of cops, both in my skyline and current car.

none have even looked at me twice.

do the right thing, and you shouldnt need a warning i guess im trying to say ...

as soon as ppl obey the road laws (which are there for good reason no matter what some fully sick habib thinks) then no one will have to worry :D

It's a post for discussion, not to warn users. What would a forum be without discussion ;)

If you're dumb enough to get caught then cop it sweet, I drive it every day too. Never had an issue :D

paul :P

Tis a double negative so really you are bagging him :D

These sort of posts are informative without be rude about the Police so do serve a purpose mate. I am happy to have been told about this considering ordinarilly I use the Monash 10 times a week.

You are right if you are doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear though. :ermm:

GOOD.

Get some of the crap, retarded drivers off the Monash. I am referring to the drivers out there who love to tailgate and/or use mobile phones while driving. :P

I think this is a awesome idea.

Remember - dont break the law and you wont get caught :D

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
