my rb26 is curruntly in peices at a brisbane work shop. bearing let go dur to a dyno tuner advaning my time to much and ****** it. so i need sum advice on the followin.

get it rebuilt standard pistons and rings bearing and crank and block to be machined

or

hks over sized pistons and rings hks rods n1 bearing and standard crank and n1 block to be re-ground

?????????????????????????????

what power will and standard motor hold vs the hks 1 and is there anything im missing in the second opion with the hks rebuild any info would be great thanks?????

Detonation hurts the big ends as well a the piston itself.

yer detonation did hurt it damaged big ends and scored the crank and block so thats why i want to do it once and do it proply so i got a good strong reliable motor and also the shop is paying for the motor to be rebuilt to stock spec aswell as the machining so i only have to pay the diffence between stck rebuild and the hks opion and there paying labour as the motor is already out and getting rebuilt any way.

just dont no if thats all i need the make it a strong bottom end???? support mods are hks exhust and dump pipe apexi pfc and avcr amd fmic car is a cefiro with drift set-up i live in W.A and havnt got it over here yet

Well if they are paying for the most of it - get the good gear I say. You will end up with something that is more durable, has more hp potential and is worth more $.

There is a large number of threads discussing rebuilds, so best bet is to do a search. If the motor is out of an early R32 make sure you do something about the oil pump drive on the crank. Beyond that, the world is your oyster......

i'd for sure go aftermarket pistons, rods (tho the standard ones will be fine for 350-400rwkw with good rod bolts)

aftermarket oil pump. n1 item is good. as are others. make sure you get oil restrictors in the block and a decnet sump/oil setup.. tomei make alot of good bits for oil etc.

i'd make sure the oil problems are addressed. and that would be my primary concern.

cheers guys does any1 no roughly what a stock rb26 can make in rwhp reliable everyday and also what is the weakest point in the rb26 motor in stock form thanks

Weakest part of RB26DETT is leanout on 5 and 6. Big ends go because of oil problem in sump design. Nothing wrong with the factory oil pump.

Big ends dont go because of an oil problem due to sump design.

If there are 350rwkw+ GTR's running around here in Vic with a stock sump, its definately a case of Myth Busters

Its other problems, and everyone points the finger @ the sump incorrectly

Just to add to the oil discussion, I recommend the oil pump be thoroughly checked and the screws into the back plate then loctited in. It's amazing how many reports I get of the screws going loose. Just how many screws loose does it take before oil pressure is severely reduced? Not sure yet.

    • Been down in Tassie for 2 weeks (a cruise, not a race for once) but spent a little time on her when I got back. I worked out the injector settings in the PowerFC were not correct for nismo 555s, set those to 66% +10ms and added a little air at closed throttle, set the timing (approximately, because it has some weird non 15o cells around idle) and now she starts and idles properly. She purrs like a kitten (ignore the co2 alarm in the background, I did  ) 20250518_171052.mp4 Next step, off for run-in, tuning and alignment!
    • Went to a drift practice day at a local circuit (held on the reserve parking area behind the grandstand) for the first time in about 15 years. Some kei cars were drifting as well, a not so surprising Suzuki Carry truck, and two 1st gen Daihatsu Copens that were converted to rear wheel drive(!) using Daihatsu Boon X4 transfer case, prop shaft and rear diff, obviously omitting the front driveshafts. They looked really fun to slide. I heard that they cost "about half" as much as a Nissan Silvia etc to run.  On the track 'Tech M' a local BMW tuning garage had a customer track day. Mainly recent models but there was one E36 which looked ancient among all the current models. It was cool watching the drifting and then turning around and seeing random people thrashing their M3/4s  central-circuit-drift-practice-2025-05-18-long-yt.mp4
    • I prefer it with those wheels (sacrilege?) 😋 Here's a photo of a fully original one for reference. The price is $350K....
    • I would like to keep it around 15k but if I need more to make it reliable and not have to worry about the car breaking I can go more. It's my project car so I'm just trying g to figure out what needs to be in it i know basic things like turbo cams injectors I'm just unsure of the size and the specifics so I'm spending alot of time on Google and its mostly rb25 and rb26 not alot on neo
