Was in Woolies readin the latest Motor mag and they had a review of the aformentioned cars. Of course the first thing I flip to is the performance data. What stunned me most is these cars are pulling 109/110mph traps? How can that be possible? You need ~200rwkw in an S15 or a tad more in a R33 to do so. And these cars have substantially less power and more weight. The power to weight ratios are no better than a stock R33/S15.

Anyone smell BS?

are you saure they are saying that they are hitting that speed buy the end of the 1/4 mile, or do they just have the times it takes for them to hit those speeds. as any info i can find on the xr5t says it takes over 16 seconds to hit 100mph, which would put it well past 400m.

i have a quite a few motor mags and they don't usually do 1/4 mile runs at the drag strips. they usually bolt a big thing to the side of the car that has a wheel that runs on the ground.

most of the tests i have seen (infact all of them) have the times it takes for the car to get up to about 160-170kmh, even though they might do the 1/4 at 155kmh.

but either way i'm going to go to the newsagent tomorrow and check it out.

Shit !, read about the MAZDA 3 MPS and watch the fifth gear review on it....thats things got a SHiT Load of tourqe....too much i will say.....my stock r33 will be blown to bits if that 390NM got stuck in to me....

xr5 has tad over 300nm of torque from 1800rpm onwards, as a result the 6 speed has tripple synchros first 2nd and 3rd gear, plus a proportioning valve in the hydro clutch (clutch in you cant rev dump) :P. nifty lil car, ive driven them, not to sure bout the holden however.

i work for ford, and have had a xr5 in and been in one when being driven, nothing compared to my r33 gtst with 205rwkw :P even on 7psi my skyline feels faster. These cars do hit high speeds, but no way are they 13 second cars... No way in hell. If the GT-P is a 14.0 second car or thereabouts and the typhoon is 13s or so, the xr5 is nowhere near as fast as either of these cars.

i dont have 205rwkw..would't mind though.......but bugger....scary thing is my GF likes that car and she likes the Mazda.....

so all of these are FWD right....do there have trickly hitech LSD like honda type r....otherwise how on earth do you put the power down.....

ok, well i have the mag. and yes they do have the figures as-

astra 0-100= 5.29 seconds and 0-400m= 13.42 @ 176.8kmh

xr5t 0-100=5.41 seconds and 0-400m= 13.52 @ 174.9kmh....

however if you read through the article it says the astra does 0-100 in6.7 and the xr5t in 7.5 and across the 1/4 mile are 14.75 for the astra and 15.38 for the xr5t. this got me thinking that someone had cocked up. so i flicked through for another 6 or 7 pages and come across a comparison of the bmw z4 m roadster and the mercedes-benz slk55, and do you know what? guess what the performance times for they are. thats right, bmw z4 0-100= 5.29 seconds and 0-400m= 13.42 @ 176.8kmh and mercedes-benz 0-100=5.41 seconds and 0-400m= 13.52 @ 174.9kmh

so there we have it. they cocked up after all.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
