I recieved a pm this morning (from a user i will not name) claiming to know one of my mates. He then told me a bullsh1t story about a clutch failure, and the fact Jim Berry has dudded him over it. This story could not be further from the truth...not only does Glen not know this tool, Glen has nothing but praise for Jim and the way he handled the situation, getting his car repaired and building him a custom twin plate to get him back on the road. a transcript of the crap is below...

Hi mate,

RE the jim berry clutc, I know a guy who is in the middel of a law suit with jim berry as one of him top line clutch's let go and sent shrapnel through the floor. The materials were tested and found to be faulty but jim berry refused to pay up.

Anyway I have gone for the O S Gikon (think thats the spelling/pronunciation) unit. The gearbox you have sounds like the go but am wondering why you are selling it if you are still activley racing? Also would like to know if you will go any lower on the price?

What a load of SHIT...do you know this guy do you??? the guy in question happens to be one of my good mates. The pressure plate was faulty from manufacture and nothing to do with Jim Berry. Jim's insurance arranged for the car to be repaired (even when the [insert brand name] pressure plate was found to have been cracked from manufacture) and made the process of the car being repaired a simple and painless task. Jim even custom built him a twin plate which is currently in the car and ran a 10.8 at the track last week.If you know this guy so well who is he??? Whats his name?? I think you should stop listening the rumour mill and repeating this bullsh1t as your own experience.

I hate lying f**ks and put them in the same boat as theives.

was willing to help you but not anymore

f**k off idiot...never pm me again

If i didn't know the sort of person Jim was i probably wouldn't have felt so pissed off.....But Jim berry is one of the nice guys of the industry and doesn't need this c0ck spreading a chinese whisper he's heard along the grapevine (even tried to give the story credibility by saying he new the guy). Im not willing to name him as he may have a chance to admit he's a bullsh1tter and apoligise to Jim.....he's got 48hrs. Glen (GTR27L) would also like to know how he knows this wanker!!

I think i know the person you are talking about.

The story I heard from the horses mouth is that after the massive crater it created in the road it smashed through the floor as well.. Quite a mess.

I heard that the workshop is fixing everything and that there are no problems at all.

Even after all this Glen still recommended i get one of these clutch's because they are one of the best you can buy... (maybe when i can afford it lol)

not sure why this needs to be pubically aired, but it's your choice paul. all i'll remember from this thread was that some poor bastard had a piece of clutch or flywheel pierce his floor which would have to be one of the scariest things that could happen to someone in a car. I hope he is ok.

edit: I should add personally i would think it's better for you and Jim Berry if this thread went away, but it's up to you mate.

Ive got nothin to hide Richard...and either has Jim.....Unfortunately during the manufacturing process the defective pressure plate was not detected by normal quality control. Dont mean to scare people but this brand is a widely used pressure plate thats used in probably 25% of all GTR/GTS-t clutch upgrades.

The reason why its been publicly aired is to quell the bullsh1t and expose the truth...you got a problem with that?

i didn't say i had a problem with it. i was just trying to give you some advice, and i never suggested you or jim had anything to hide. jeezuz is it just me or is everyone out to pick a fight these days?

Not picking a fight....you had your opinion....i had mine. Just explaining the reason for the thread..thats all.

    • Not sure the US can import anything other than the C34 Stagea's, but if you can and you need to to tow, DO NOT under any circumstances get an M35 Stagea. If it is just as a family car and your country/state allows it, absolutely and definitely get an M35 (3.5L if possible as it is effectively a 350Z) over a C34.
    • Punch your VIN (nm35-xxxxxx) into Amayama.com You can see everything there quite easily.
    • Thanks for that, I'll check it all out. I can always do the brakes last anyway if its a problem.  The 16's are super cool, if they do fit I'll cruise around with them for a bit.
    • Well, that's kinda the point. The calipers might interfere with the inside of the barrels 16" rims are only about 14" inside the barrels, which is ~350mm, and 334mm rotors only leave about 8mm outboard for the caliper before you get to 350, And.... that;s not gunna be enough. If the rims have a larger ID than that, you might sneak it in. I'd be putting a measuring stick inside the wheel and eyeballing the extra required for the caliper outboard of the rotor before committing to bolting it all on.
    • OK, so again it has been a bit of a break but it was around researching what had been done since I didn't have access to Neil's records and not everything is obvious without pulling stuff apart. Happily the guy who assembled the engine had kept reasonable records, so we now know the final spec is: Bottom end: Standard block and crank Ross 86.5mm forgies, 9:1 compression Spool forged rods Standard main bolts Oil pump Spool billet gears in standard housing Aeroflow extended and baffled sump Head Freshly rebuilt standard head with new 80lb valve springs Mild porting/port match Head oil feed restrictor VCT disabled Tighe 805C reground cams (255 duration, 8.93 lift)  Adjustable cam gears on inlet/exhaust Standard head bolts, gasket not confirmed but assumed MLS External 555cc Nismo injectors Z32 AFM Bosch 023 Intank fuel pump Garret 2871 (factory housings and manifold) Hypertune FFP plenum with standard throttle   Time to book in a trip to Unigroup
