Hey again everyone, was just wondering if anyone was up for a formal run for August 16th, just looking for a Nice, Clean example to carry My date and I from Queanbeyan (around 5:00), Past the Lake for Photos and then to the Hellenic club at around 7:00ish. Anyone who's interested just post up or PM me, and I can offer a bit for fuel (Prices :()

P.S. Some of you must think i am a Formal whore .... Well I am :D and I've still got more to come at the end of the year

P.P.S. Anyone is welcome to tag along, But I'm only looking for one car to carry people, and due to past experience convoys are just to hard to organise, but if people want they can make it a cruise or a twighlight photo shoot at the lake

P.P.P.S If anyone can get onto these guys personally as they all have been wonderful in the past and it would be great if I could get any of them again. Richard, Jayce, Goran, Phil, Shawn, Nathan, Rachel, and anyone who has come that I forgot their real names (skyGTRline)

Thanks Richard, Come anyway even if its not up for the lead car. Can you get inb touch with the other guys for me to see if any of them are up for it. Glad your coming this year, Missed you, Jayce and Goran last year, So it will be good to see you again

Goran, if your ghosting the forums :pirate: would you like to tag along. J what about E's? just a simple cruise on a Wednesday eve...May get some pics of a few nice rides.

The driveway at the Hellenic is a pain in the A when there's a crowd so will just swing by the outside.

The Museum however is awsome for formals as the area is just right.

Formal season already? Are you serious? It’s not even remotely warm yet!

If Jerry can have my car back to me in time then yeah I’d be happy to take you. Have to let me find that out first though.

Which formal is it?

We need a formal calendar I think lol…

CHANGE of PLANS

I'm doing this one as a favour for my best mates younger sister, and she said she wants to go early so she can get photo's at the hellenic club, so for whoever is going you will be getting there fairly early, so you guys wont get a big showy entrance. But buy all means still come along for a Wednesday Night cruise and check out some cars.

I've allready asked MKDR33 to give us a lift, but things might change.

The meeting place will be 53 morton St Queanbeyan at 4:45 on the 16th. 5:00 at the latest. If you can't make by that time because of work (I'm guessing most of you) you could always catch up with us at, or on the way to the Hellenic club.

My number is 0423958366 if anyone has any questions

P.S its the Merici YEAR 10 formal

Cheers,

Reece

    • Lets say I wanted to buy this, specifically for this purpose. How do I actually perform the function. Can I still buy a Consult-1? Am I about to be burned by the fact my car is a 2000 model Series 2 R34 and thus will be some stupid other system? Do I just need this -> https://obd2australia.com.au/product/nissan-consult-14-pin-to-usb-ddl-diagnostic-interface-with-ftdi-ft232r-chip/ And with what software?
    • That's probably OK. That's a face to face compression joint between two surfaces with the clamping load provided by those bolts. So.... it's unlikely that the bolts will end up feeling that load in shear, unless the clamping surfaces are not large enough, bolts not got enough tension on them, etc etc to prevent the two faces from moving wrt each other. Which... I would hope the designers have considered, seeing as it's probably one of the most important things the upright has to do apart from resist collapsing in its own right. But yes, it would definitely be worth asking them what their safety factor on that part of the design was. I tend to think that the casting, being a casting, is not necessarily the strongest bit of material in the world. It's about an inch square, and when you think about the loads that are being put into it, you have to wonder what safety factor the Nissan boys (and every other OEM engineer who has designed all the millions of other uprights that look essentially the same) used to account for defective casting, aging, severe impacts on the wheel, etc etc.
    • Those bolts would be orders of magnitude stronger that cast aluminium though.  And its mainly clamping force, not shear they are dealing with?
    • Except all that twisting force that is breaking a cast piece, appears to be going through 4 bolts in the picture Johnny posted of the BryPar one...
    • The smart approach is to use the gearbox loom from the manual car. Makes it a lot easier - just plugs into the switches on the box and plugs into the main loom up near the fusebox. Then you only need to deal with bypassing the inhibit switch. The other approach requires you to use the wiring diagram to identify those wires by colour and location, perhaps even indulging in a little multimeter action to trace them end to end to make sure, and then.... you will have the answers you need. The R34 wiring diagram is available on-line (no, I do not have a link to it myself - I would have to do a search if I wasn't able to go to the copy I have at home).
