if u want reliability then stick with the rb20

funny that the rb20 is older yet seems there is many more 25's and 26's blowing up... maybe due to the fact that every man and his dog has either an r33 or 89 gtr

reliability or does that mean their owns drive like girls?

seriously, I reckon it had an rb20 in it for a very good reason and should stay an rb20

rb20's are fullly sick

except for the externally gated ones. they're gay.

anyways

r32 - 2530 - 12psi - bilstein suspension - power fc (me)

r33 - stock turb - 10-11psi - stock suspension - stock ecu (liz)

=

@ oran park

r32 just keeping infront of the r33

alittle more work i think is needed for the r32's to keep up

I reckon with the weight of the r32, really you don't need the extra power (don't hit me for saying this) of the rb25, just need to put a little more coin into it as george said.

nathy boy

obviously your driving ability out does mine....... quite obvious!

so i was using liz as an example because i would say her ability and mine are similar. Dont you think??

As your pointing out she should of whipped my ass if she was at your level? right?

and i was refering to the aaron mcgill day not long ago not the renew day @ oran park.

my previous comments were based on the fact that two similar drivers in an r32 and a r33, the r32 would need more to keep up in my opinion. i think you took my post the wrong way mate. just have another read of it

werent u running semi slicks???

cheers

George

I'll whip you both next time, hope that'll settle the argument.

well i can say only one thing. dollar for dollar id go the RB 26 way. that engine has prooven its self. it is world renowed for its strength, ease of tune. that engine is just the monster of an engine. when i started workin and i went on vacation to europe i could have bought a second hand ferrari 575M fairly cheap ($100K) but still i choose my R33 skyline above its. als for the RB 20 and RB25, the rb 20 will be way to laggy on low reve if using a big turbo, the Rb 25 (i dont have much experience with that RB 25) could also be a monster of a engine. but still id go the GTR RB 26 way

Umm liz I'll keep my comments to myself about you whipping me...

No i wasn't running semi's at oran park but at wakie yes. to tell the truth i think your car should be faster as being lighter of the two and with mods.

RB20 with std ECU, cat back exhaust , air filter and a FMIC but on used crappy 2nd hand tyres that i use to use for track days... my RB20 is quicker then your RB25, and you had semis :( So the engine cant be that different in the grand scheme of things. More displacement would be great. I still think you can end up with the sort of power im making now for less money then an RB25 transplant, which will give you about 200rwkws. I woudl be amazed if there was a 200rwkws RB25 out there quicker then my car!?!?!?!?!?!

RB20 POWAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

I've never been in Roy's but from the dyno graph it does look impressive, looks like it has that 'fun' factor. :)

Darren and Chris were driving it with the old tune and exhaust housing (didnt you have a drive as well?), it is completely different now. I still dont think it was too bad before.

Just wait until Dutton in a few weeks, be funny to see how the stock std ol RB20 goes against some of the exotics at Sandown and Winton...cant wait.

Nope haven't taken it for a spin... :(

I miss rev's... :(

Ha Ha, we are all very passionate about our cars it seems. I'll be at wakefield as well and hope to see most of you there. There was a mention of traction however the GTS-4 is available as well. Good to hear the fors and againsts.

Hmm, were you intending to start a catfight?

Which car is faster at the drags depends mostly on the size of your wallet.

Which car is faster in the twisty mountain passes depends on driver skill.

I have spent less all up on my 32 gts4 (inc. purchase price) thank my friend has spent modifying his 33 gtr and I still keep up with him in the twisties... Im not saying im brock jr, he just loves getting the thing out of shape, does'nt care for balance.

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
