Hey guys

well i've been driving the R33 for a week and a bit now and all seems pretty sweet. There are a few things though that I'm looking into. I'm experiencing a vibration at exactly 100km/h and above (worse at 100ks)

It feels like the shudder is coming through the pedals, however its more through the suspension and geometry of the car. Its not brake or steering shudder as I know what they feel like.

The suspension is VERY hard and i'll be replacing it with new coilovers shortly, however this sort of feels like its more in the pivoting sections of the suspension geometry, morel iek a tie rod or something?

Any ideas on where to look?

Thanks guys,

matt

I know exactly what it is, my mums car use to do that at exactly a hundred aswell u need new tires, we changed that on my mums car and problem went away, for example she had really bad rear tires but ok front tires, we had to change them all. Also get a wheel alignemet it wont kill u but it will save years on your tyres and they only about 40 bucks.

Yeh well i would look at the actual tie rods and see if there is any play in them. Might be a good place to start. Jack up the front end and try and wobble the wheel without actually turning or moving it, see if it moves in its place.

We had the same issue straight after we got the 33. It ended up being a tyre that was out of round. It had a large bump in it, kinda looked like a massive goiter! Changed that, and all was sweet!

You can rule out tie rod end if it's not coming through the steering. My money is on the tyre cept a delamination like Terry and Anna experienced is more likely to be felt at lower speeds eg. 40-60. I would just take it to someone who knows what they are looking at and ask for their opinion. If they are nice enough they won't charge you for that.

check the weights on your rims, see if they are properly weighted. my car had a shudder at 100km/h aswell, i took it back got the front wheels rebalanced and he said they were out and one of the weights were missing off the front rim.

also see if any of the rims have a slight buckle in them.

The Tyres Would be my 1st call, what tyres are on the car.

Some times if you have a cheaper tyrer fitted you end up getting what u pay for, saying that I have seen Goodyear Eagle F1's Egg. Egging of a tyre is not uncommon, seen it a lot, I would look at shocks, some times when the shocks have gone soft it can lead to the tyre getting a egg in it, excess bounce etc etc just worth a check...

Hope that helps a little more Matt

Id be down to a tyre shop...

There they would look at many of the above things and they can do them all in the same place...

1. Wheel alignment

2. Wheel weights and balance is correct

3. Tyre is out of round or de laminating

All three are easilly fixed and can all be done at your local.

My bet is like everyones, alignment and balance, usually the case if vibrations are felt over 100kmph as seems to be the most common problem, aswell as when were the wheels balanced and aligned, usual thing is every 5000 to 10000 kms they should be done

picked the car up from the tyre place, he said the rear wheels were f**ked, rear left was out by 7 degrees, he fixed the alignment then balanced the rims, and again said the rims were all over the place, had to add 50 grams on one and 60 grams on the other. I've had all that fixed and it runs awesome now. He did say the rear tires were shit and there was a lot of 'run' in the walls of the tire, if there is more vibrations then that is why. So i'll be putting new rubber on the rears at least. Any thoughts on good tires these days? I'm running Falken ST155s on my Z and i love them.

Thanks for all you rreplies too by the way - other forums just don't bother to reply on simple questions like these - thanks

my chopped/heated springs used to do that something fierce

bought the car like that

all gone since coilovers put in

other symptoms of wrecked suspension

used to shred the inside edge of tyres in 5000ks

rest of the fronts would be full tread, inside 3/4cm, through to belts

no amount of wheel balancing/aligning could save them

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
