Any suggestions? I have a 3" exhaust system, all the way down and it sounds OK i suppose but i want it to sound tuned. Like you know when you work a v8 it starts to sound rough (lumpy cams are popular way to make it sound rougher), same as like a J-ported rotary sounds rough.. what would i have to do to the rb20 to achieve a rough sound? Dont need like smart assed comments either, just wanna know how... I can give examples of cars that sound rough if you like

you should heard my NA RB20DE without the extractors on... pwoaaah.

ways to make your car lumpy (note: these methods can also be used to kill your engine)

use ultra low octane fuel... esp if its from Woolworths/Safeway petrol stations and the indian (hey... I'm allowed to say that) the counter has watered it down for the day

remove AFM from car... spray the sensor with thick cooking oil... put it back in

put hole in intercooler/put in leaky gaskets on intake/BOV

play wheel of fortune with your ignition timing

rmove some teeth from your timing belt

that should keep you occupied for a while.

WTF at the sudden increase of posts about making everything sound better. Why not just do the mods to make your car quicker and reap the benefits of the sound difference afterwards... the sound if usually a by-product of a worked motor anyway...

Aside from that, cut your exhaust off before the diff like the scummadore owners have been doing for years. Should sound different then.

car is fast enough for the moment, and i couldnt justify making it faster. 2530's just cost to much, better to save and buy a gtr next year when im 21 i reckon. Hmm alot of exhaust cutting advice, im to scared to lose the cat, and i got a like 5" tip and muffler already, so i dont think that side of things would help, umm i would prefer not to make my car unroadworthy, its only got 1 muffler on it currently. I dont want my car to be lumpy because i hit something with a mallet!! i guess cams would be the way to go... What if you got a stroker kit for one of these things, besides the fairly significant power gain, would yuo be looking at a nicer sound? rb25's dont sound as good as rb20's in my opinion and the stroker would take it closer to an rb25, so;;;

thx 66

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
