LTHLRB
Who has used a KKR turbocharger and what are your thoughts? they sell from otomoto for around 900bux, 260kw from a rb25 on 19psi, pretty damn good, but before i buy i want to know what are your thoughts... thanks, phill http://www.otomoto.com.au/kkrturbo.htm Edited September 29, 2006 by LTHLRB Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/136706-kkr-turbo/ Share on other sites
Cubes
If thats the money you are looking to spend look at a turbo from slide. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...=131723&hl= and his online store. http://www.slidingperformance.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=25 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/136706-kkr-turbo/#findComment-2541444 Share on other sites
rb26s13
these things have a shocking internal wastegate design, the wastegate flap can only move about 7mm which means you either gotta run big boost or modify there crappy internal wastegate setup for the money its much worth the slide highflow over a kkr thing Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/136706-kkr-turbo/#findComment-2541472 Share on other sites
LTHLRB
yeah i was tossing up between kkr and straight rb25 highflow from slide, but i havnt heard of anyone with a slide making over 250rwkw, my aim is sorta 250 - 265, for drifting really. i want really quick spool and bags of power, 3rd gear drift really. Cubes
From what I've heard the KKR480 turbo is rather laggy, hell even the dyno sheet on their web site looks laggy. LTHLRB
ahh alright fair enough, the vband flange and the wastegate tucked up into the side doesnt look really that good. So you think the slide straight rb25 highflow is the go? good for drift? and also will it be reliable, like will it hold together after a good run? Cubes
I would say so... I personally don't own one so I really can't comment. But if it were the KKR or Slide ... I would choose the Slide. Then if I was willing to spend a little more I would look at the GCG or possibly a garrett item if a few modifications to ic piping didn't bother me. LTHLRB
hmm fair enough, looks like it will be the slide then a good tune with a pfc and 750cc injectors should see me 240 or so at the wheels also the cops wont be able to notice the turbo but they will hear my straight through 3" trust exhaust Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/136706-kkr-turbo/#findComment-2541830 Share on other sites

paulr33
knock yourself out, but youve mentioned you want no lag. that isnt possible and both the kkr and slide will have more lag the say a gcg hiflow, this is because its plain or journal bearing vs ball bearing. let us know how u go, interesting to see how it compares Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/136706-kkr-turbo/#findComment-2542076 Share on other sites
LTHLRB
not NO lag, MINIMAL lag, as in, i want to see full boost (roughly 16psi) before 3,500rpm and i want great consistancy. I know the slide highflow will deliver it, also i want the power to be a STRONG 240 or so kw. Good for the street and drift. paul, ofcourse the gcg highflow will be better, but for 800 or so, would you complain if the turbo didnt come side by side with a 1,000+ turbo? i will be getting the turbo and pfc by around start of december. I also need a new exhaust manifold gasket as mine is cracked, also will b replacing every stud and bolt on the exhaust side. Should be very sweet and juicy Edited September 30, 2006 by LTHLRB Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/136706-kkr-turbo/#findComment-2542094 Share on other sites
paulr33
go for it, but *it may* be prone to failure more than a ball bearing unit if you suddently shut off the engine oil + water feed. sure theres a minimal chance, but its a chance. Cubes
LTHLRB, Your 3500rpm spool target will depend upon which housing you go. VG30/R34 or the R33 size. R33 size you may get close but the VG30/R34 you won't see it until close to 4k. LTHLRB
i am going the STRAIGHT RB25 HIGHFLOW, which is the r33 housing. The r34 and vg30 are high hp rated because they have bigger housings etc, the straight r33 highflow is what i want, also 240 - 250 rwkw with good spool is my aim. You pretty much get what you pay for. But anything that is better than a stock turbo is good Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/136706-kkr-turbo/#findComment-2542212 Share on other sites
Cubes
Its not the quality its the nature of the bush setup. Garret journal/bush have exactly the same issues if shut down while spinning hard. i.e an accident. But saying that I've seen a turbo from japan that was BB and came off a car that was in an accident. The bearings were stuffed. LTHLRB
good point, hey if the car is a write off, the turbo is the last thing on your mind. Ill purchase this turbo when i do turn 18 (november 23) onwards, install, tune etc and let you know about the power i get. So far i have 209.5rwkw on 11.5 - 12psi. so about the bush bearings. When i turn the car off it hasto idle for around a minute or so? so the turbo can wind down? yes?
