Gday,

I just picked up a secondhand HKS highmount stainless manifold in a turbo kit and installed it last week and within a day I had blown out cylinder 1 and 6 on a standard ACL head to manifold gasket. After ripping it out I realised I only used one of the gaskets in the kit (Full header length) - not doubling up per cylinder with the individual port ones aswell. Lesson learned.

I went and purchased a brand new gasket from nissan ($130!) and after putting the kit back on again 6th still leaks!

I have noticed that when doing up the manifold nuts that each time i tighten one the opposite nut on that port gets loose... which makes me thing something is wrong. Is this normal behaviour? I can keep tightening until the cows come home but they only seem to come loose.

Im only using brass nuts but with the factory 17yr old washers. Should I go to nissan and buy all new washers and pinch nuts? Would this help?

My next thought is that perhaps my manifold header plate is warped causing this? If you look at this image you can see the header plates has slits in it between 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 to allow the headerplate to bend toward the head which should help. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...st&id=49575

Any help would be great. I lost half my weekend replacing this fkn thing and now Im back to square one!

Thanks,

Jai

I had this with my HKS manifold on the old Skyline - needed to get the face of the manifold machined to it was completely flat.

Doesn't cost much - a good machine shop should be able to sort you out.
