Also went for a drive tonight and found that the thing is overboosting and hitting boost cut on the power FC, it ran faultlessly last year so might have to pull some plugs/lines off all the boost control system and see what I can do. Otherwise the boost settings will need adjustment and I dont know how long that will take or how effective it will be. So I'd say I wont be at test and tune unless I find and fix a problem tomorrow. Changing the settings would have to be done on the way to Palmyra and I'm not sure it would be good enough to spend money to race and have it stuff up again

Anyway....

Heres another photo from my trip, I just finished editing some photos so thought I may as well put one up here.

Do yourself a favour Cal and get rid of the Power FC they are dinosaurs now and you have to spend ages on the tune to get them perfect just not worth the hassle. Vipec V44 plug in takes 5mins to tune it perfect and cannot fault them i will never be going back to a Power FC.

Come on Ben, lol they aren't that bad. Easy to tune.

I actually find them easier than the vipec, because they are already set for the car.

I also have a bucket load of tools ive created to help me tune them. I have this massive spreadsheet that does a lot of the annoying work for me :)

Powerfc boost control is absolute shit. I've never had any decent results from them.

Callan come and try my gizzmo. It held boost for me at 22psi on an internal gated GT3076 with a little 0.63 rear housing. No one thought it would work, but I proved them all wrong. You've got a 0.82 so you'll never have a problem.

Yeah its the PFC boost control kit, it used to hold boost fine after a bit of tweaking. It cuts the engine if boost gets a certain value over the set boost

I've been using it for probably near on 3 years now and its only this year its started to play up so I'll try and get it to work, if not I'll just assume its on its way out and buy another EBC

It's alot of money to spend on something I already have is the only annoying part

As for the PowerFC vs Vipec thing..... Yes the Vipec is better, but the PowerFC works fine and I already have one. I've looked at the software for the Vipec and while it looks simple enough to tune inj and ign maps, theres way to much other crap to worry about. Would take a while to learn it all

Maybe one day I'll change, but I cant justify it now. I nearly bought nengun's d-jetro version of the PowerFC for GTS-t but again, couldnt justify it

Let me know if you want any help tuning the Powerfc anyway, I've done millions of them. I can show you all the tips and tricks to get a little bit more out of it.

You've helped me in the past so I'm happy to help out.

Vipecs are easy, but the firmware is full of bugs, as they don't have a decent QA process. They are cowboys in a way. I understand the process too coming from the IT industry.

If you are running a vipec, just a warning, stay on Firmware 4.8.1 and don't go any higher due to bugs in later releases until further notice. If you need to backward flash, I have a few files that will take you back to 4.8.1.

Each to there own i guess if you want your engine to run to its full potential the Power FC's don't cut it anymore, all the cars I'm building from now on will be run on Vipec. Richard Supra has V88, Kingy's R34 is getting a V44 put in after we get back from Vegas, R32 has a V88 and i'm putting a V44 in the 180SX the old Power FC will be getting Frisbee out the window. I have never had any problems with the Vipec so easy to use, setting them up is piece of piss, wiring them up easy, setting up launch control, flat shifters with ignition cut, anti lag you name its got it.

Here's what i have done to the 180SX in my spare time. The car is nearly completely stripped ready to be welded out should be nothing left of it next week. Some of my parts have turned up engine has been stripped and checked putting that back together as well. Engine looks pretty strong has been built properly forged rods and pistons, ARP Main Studs and Head Studs, Metal head gasket and Tomei cams with Ported head. That will do me nicely  280-300rwkw's. Will order my new rims when i get back from USA, gonna go with Work VS-XX 18x10 +0 and 18x11.5 -12 massive dish f**k yeah. V-mount inter cooler and Radiator going in also, as for body work Origin +25 Front Fenders and Origin +50mm Rears running with Type X Body Kit Front, Rear Sides with Rocket Bunny Ducktail Wing Super Low and Fat. Anyway here some pics:

I do agree with you Ben, the vipec (Which is just a re-badged Link G4) is a great unit, if not one of the best.

The powerfc and vipec will make the same power, as they essentially do the same thing. The vipec does look like a better solution if you want the anti lag, launch control, flat shift, and various other features and protection levels.

There are a few things I don't like about the vipec though, and mentioning a few is the lack of r&d in the firmware upgrades, and the fact that they are not good with more mild powered cars and detecting knock. These aren't a deal breaker though.

I've tried to use the knock kit with them and they arent designed very well. Even quite a few high end tuning shops agree (spoken to a few about the difficulty setting them up). And their automation process isn't very good. I even called vipec themselves and they couldn't answer me about their own product because they said they have never used it (wtf).

The other is the price, for a simple plug and go solution, and not needing all the features, the powerfc is definitely a good contender. Especially given the functionality of the hand controller as a monitoring tool. If you own the datalogit kit, tuning is as easy as a vipec.

But in saying all of this, I will definitely be looking at the budget and purchasing either a vipec or a link g4 when I decide to purchase a car again. I may even go the Link because they have the digital dash add-on and it's a nice unit.

You might even know Ben, does the Link digital dash work with the vipec?

Yeah the old boy was talking to Mark on the phone about an hour ago the new 4.9 Firmware is out with a few more features that we will be definitely using, we will be running at the Pro-Comp shoot out at Palmyra in a couple of weeks the car will be back on the dyno next week to bump the power up to 900ish HP. Low 9 is the goal i hope the track is prep good if we can knock 0.2sec of 60ft from 1.5sec to 1.3sec and another 5mph to get 150mph will bag us a very low 9 maybe a high 8sec pass.

I pretty sure the Motec Dash works on Vipec.

As for the 180 was just lucky, I only bought it cause it was cheap and was in Townsville having a built engine is just a massive bonus save me some dollars.

I had some issues with 4.9 and Mark ended up calling me, lol. He was telling me about the bugs in 4.9 and advised 4.8.1.

Asked me if I wanted to be a vipec agent in Mackay for him too :P

Shame I don't own a shop.

Looking forward to seeing the white streak run a 8 second pass too. Good luck!

Oh and f**ken score with the 180 :)

I coulda had that 180 :P

But it was a bit impractical for me having 2 thirsty sports cars

It's looking good now anyway, It was crying for a rear spoiler I think. I'm still not sold on the flares but I think I'm on my own with that

The PowerFC is plenty enough for the 300rwkw or so that I'll be aiming for with my new setup. Might start ordering parts soon.

If I was going to get something else I think I'd go with the Link G4, as there essentially the same as the Vipec anyway. From what I heard the Vipec was being phased out and were just going to be sold as Links from now on but that seems like its untrue now

I think I got my boost sorted but I'm not willing to pay $40 to have it stuff up on me tonight seen as I just spent quite a bit of money on nearly a 3 week holiday. Not sure what my next pay is going to be like either so will probably give it a miss tonight. Knowing my luck it would probably rain anyway

    • Apologies for the long post, but needed somewhere to lay out the entire timeline of events and actions taken:   I've got an 89 GTR with a R34 RB in it. It's been running great all year, driven probably 500KM in the last month. It's not my daily driver, just a weekend fun car.    Build info: R34 RB26 - HKS 2.7 stroker kit, HKS adjustable cam gears, HKS turbo upgrades, Trust intercooler, R34 factory DENSO 440cc injectors, JUN chipped/tuned R32 ECU. All of this work was performed in Japan back in 2019.    Thursday 10/2/25 - It's a nice day and decided I'll drive it to work, I start it up in the garage and I notice it took a few extra cranks and sounded a bit funny. I figure maybe it was just because it was a pretty chilly morning. I pull it out into the driveway to warm up a bit before leaving. As I leave the driveway, it feels very off and sounds like a misfire. I pull it back in the garage to deal with after work and take the daily to work. I was able to diagnose it as a cylinder 5 misfire with the old spark plug test (unplugging each plug until a sound change with the engine running). I take off the whole ignition system, ignitor, plugs, spark. *Important note, it is still on the R32 ignition system with the separate ignitor system. I test each system with a multi-meter and nothing presents as a smoking gun. I put it all back together and it starts up no issue. I go ahead and order the PRP R35 ignition conversion kit. It should arrive today (10/13/25)   Friday 10/3/25 - Another nice day, car starts up great and drives great all day. Very pleased that everything seems to be OK   Sunday 10/5/25 - Decided I'll take it to play some golf, load up and drive to the course about 25 minutes away. Drives wonderful the whole way there, I pull in the parking lot and the engine completely comes to a stop. I do not recall if it sputtered at all, but just remember all of the sudden the engine was off. I roll it into a parking spot, try to crank it back on and nothing.  It'll crank and crank and not even try to start. End up getting it towed back to my house and push it up into the garage.    Items I have checked: Fuel in the tank Fuel Pump relay Fuel pump fuse  Spark Plugs & gap Coil packs Ignitor    I know the cylinders are getting fuel as the plugs smell like fuel after a start attempt. I tried spraying starter fluid into the manifold and cranking and not even a sputter.    I decided to do the live CAS test (removing the the CAS, ignition on and spinning the CAS stalk to see if the injectors pulse and spark is active). All of the injectors were pulsing and I have spark at the plug. The half-moon end of the CAS did seem very loose, I'm not sure how much play is supposed to be there, but it was more than I expected. There was no in/out play of the shaft, just the tip end that is pinned on had quite a bit of play.    CAS Play video   When I put the CAS back in, I stupidly did not re-time the engine. I know I need to do that tonight, however, I do not think it will start given it seemingly was not the issue. My plan is to do the PRP R35 coil kit and retime the engine at the same time.    I plan on ordering the Haltech Nexus Plug-in ECU once they are available again, but ideally would like to get this sorted before firing the parts cannon at it and potentially adding more variables.    Anything glaring that I am missing here, I'm a bit at a loss?
    • Get it on a dyno. Get something logging Consult. Run it up and find out what is causing it.
    • Looking for a plenum for rb25 de+t neo  Not looking to push much power maybe 300kw at the wheels, is there much difference in flow for Freddy “Greddy style” compared to original Greddy or options like Proflow or Otaku garage?    I won’t be porting the de Neo head for now as I think it’ll be fine 280-300rwkw but appreciate the help and any experiences anyone has between them and any advice. Thanks  Looking at this plenum for now below
