The world will run out if oil before we get E85 on the pump in Mackay all the major cities would be struggling to keep up with demand as there is not a huge supply of ethanol. As for street cars running on E85, It would be such a massive pain in the arse. First of all you Klms per tank is nearly halved, second you will have to keep 44 drums of fuel at your house and fill up using a juggler hose and a jerry can. 3rd you can't just go for a cruise to airlie or rocky or any of that shit unless someone follows you with drums of fuel. 4th when you run out of fuel on the side of the road your pretty much f**ked unless you run a switchable tune system like on the Vipec system. Either way I'm a lazy flamin mongrel and I could not be bothered doin that every time I wanted to drive my car down the street.

I'm after some feedback on Clapson Automotive.

I called them this morning and spoke to Derrick, i explained to him exactly what needed done and he seemed pretty happy with it (compared to everyone else saying no to Skylines)

I just basically want some DIRECT feedback from them, i don't want any of the "oh my mate said they're shit" stories.

Derrick estimated it'd be about a 5 hour job replacing gearbox and putting in new clutch & flywheel + replacing gearbox oil. So i'm guessing that's about $600 labour.

cheers.

I just had a chat to Mick Zammit, i'm sure most of you would know him, and he mentioned that he has known Deric for 15 odd years and he does alot of work with him and would recommend him to do the job for me.

Looks like that's a definite then, now i just need another few weeks to buy everything.

Awesome that's good Jono, haven't heard 1 bad story yet so that must be a good thing. Either way i will still go through him as i trust Mick's judgement.

Yes definitely good idea i will do this once i am ready to go ahead with the fitting. I can't wait! Then i'll be getting an exhaust and a tune then going back to the track.

Derrick is good, I use his dyno when tuning sometimes.

Don't ever assume though - Get a written quote and find out how much an hour he charges.

THIS!

and ask him for "worst case" quote....

Also, Ben, isnt that the whole point of doing a E-Flex setup? Because then you arent dependant on one fuel type and can mix it with a PUMP fuel.... Meaning you can drive around and not have to drain the fuel tank to swap to another fuel..

I don't trust that E-flex system as far as I can kick it more shit to f**k as far as I'm concerned. Keep shit simple I say. You either run one or the other. Mixing fuel can and will end up going bad at some stage.

So............ Holden and any other manufacturer, plus tuners who are doing it now, are basically all wrong because they are dong flexible fuel systems and not limiting a car to running 2 maps that require manual switching from 1 to another?

Also still looking for someone with an R33 GTST I can plug this power FC into and see if its the unit or my car with the problem

If anyone knows someone whos willing to help out it would be good. No hard running, the problem is at lower RPM on and off throttle so wont need to thrash the car or anything

Let me know :)

i can probably help with that.. aslong as the map on the pfc doesn't rape my engine....

I'm not sure how the fuel sensors work, but if you could work it so its safe at 'in between' levels (e.g. cut timing a little more when it starts dropping below e80 sort of level) then it should be fine. When it senses 98 run a 98 map, when it runs e85 run an e85 map. If the sensor fails I'm pretty sure it would be self aware that the sensor is not functioning and run on a safe map. Change sensor and away you go again

But I dont know alot about these fuel sensors at the moment. Thats just how I think they would work

i can probably help with that.. aslong as the map on the pfc doesn't rape my engine....

That would be sweet.. Will have to wait till I'm back from work next Wednesday now but. Does your car run a std ECU still? If so I can just make it safe. It will probably be slower then normal but it wont self destruct :)

yeah just standard, i have a pfc sitting on my bench but i haven't been bothered putting it in and getting it tuned just yet.. also i'm going on holiday on the 14th so anytime before then i'm free, if not i get back on the 28th.

On stock standard car, sure it probably works great. On hi-po turbo engine say like an RB26 making about 500-600hp like majority of street tuned GTRs, personally I would not be running that system too many variables and constant checking of the tunes is probably required.

Ah I don't care anymore do what's you's want I'll just stick to building my race cars.

How does a Flex fuel setup require 'constant checking' over a normal tune for a motor?

It's the same shit, just the flex fuel allows you to move from one fuel to another without the issue of swapping maps, draining fuel tanks or even pluggin in a laptop.... the ecu does EVERYTHING for you.. It can even Increase or decrease boost pressure to suit the blend of fuel in it.

hmm might have to wait till after new years then. I'm home till about lunch on Saturday then back out to work till the 19th I think it is.

Yeah i work till 12 then at 1 i'm on a plane ;) so i can't help you mate.. hit me up after the 28th and i'll help you out!

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
