hi there

i've had an issue recently with misfiring.

seems that once the car gets some heat in #2 doesnt want to spark.

Its a RB24 / hks 2530 / pfc / gtr inj etc...

I just tried replacing that one coilpack with about 4 others i had laying around, but no luck. I taped around the bottom of the original one incase there was a hairline crack or something and spark was getting out.

still nothing.

I then took the coilpack out and checked for spark with the base near my intercooler piping. And nothing again...

does this mean that:

- the coilpack is dead

- or possibly that i have an electrical problem and the coilpack isnt getting, power or earth (how would i go about checking this)

Big thanks, need to sort this out asap all help is appreciated

BTW - i have checked the gaps on the plugs all 0.7 and plugs seem to be in good condition

thanks

-Matt

Series 1 or 2? Series 1 has the ignitor module mounted on top of the coil cover series 2 has ignitor built into the plug. Try putting the other coil packs on #2 cylinder output. If they then work it's not your coils.

Pretty unusual to have 5 coils fail.

Best way to check this is Get a timing light and get a Nissan Electrical Manual.Find which wire is which before and after the Ignitor. and check from there,You find that if its not firing on the light before the ignitor you have a problem from the ecu to there. If it firing before the ignitor and not after its the problem.

if its got no Ignitor,You might find a wire is cut or broken and test the same way.If you cannot get a spark still, its the ECU

i will try isolate the issue some more and then i will try to see if the coilpack which is not working - works on another cylinder. I will also try the igniter pack :ninja:

this is all on a Cefiro RB24 with power FC

thanks for the help - keep the info coming the more i can test the better!

thanks again

could be the wiring harness also.

and a very very slim possibility is that the ecu is dead. my mate had a problem where he could not get number 6 to spark. tried new coils, wiring harness, plugs, everything. it turned out his ecu had melted a hole in the chip when he'd tried wiring up some msd coils.

well igniter pack made no difference, still the same

swapped plugs around, still the same

swapped coilpacks from 1-2 and 2-1, still the same (#2 being the problem)

earth is good (unless at the back of the plug for coilpack) the middle wire had power (tested with test light). And i wasnt sure what the other wire was for (power / earth etc). this was while the car was running.

pulled the loom for coilpacks out and stripped wiring to check for broken wires. couldnt see any so i just sanded the earth and re-fitted - started perfect and ran smooth.

.... few days later - took to the dyno today... and off the dyno and misfire again :S

any more ideas?

thanks

you don't have any of thet "special" green goo that seems to form in all the nissan connectors do you? Take off the ignighter plug and have a good look inside theplug. is the copper all green? If it is you can clean it with CRC and a toothbrush.

This goo is an excellent insulator and has given me greif on my AFM plug before took me about 2 hours to find why the car would randomly stall for no reason.

ok CRC being?

it was also brought to my attention that it may have something to do with injector plug connections? and they suggested green shit on plugs... but then all i would think it is not pumping fuel in, but should still be sparking?

looks like loom out again completely - re-solder resistor pack to new location, clean all terminals as best possible and re-try...

ahhhhhh :S

oh and once fitted gizzmo ibc - car now runs way too lean so need re-tune again :S  fun day for me!
