Isn't this whole thing about the V8's not gonna be running because of the TV Coverage deal that went on, How Ch10 still have F1 and now Ch7 now have V8's next year! Think it's all a crock of shite really, We should use these types of events like Indy to show the world what we have, and lets face it we do have quite a Touring Car catagory! Although the Japanese Touring Car are what i mostly like!

Next year at the GP the FIA are planning on shipping the FIA GT3 cars over to do 4 support races.

The cars that will be coming over include

Aston Martin DBRS9

Lamborghini Gallardo GT3

Ferrari 430 GT3

Porsche 997 GT3

Mosler Mt900R GT3

Ascari KZR1

Corvette Z06

Dodge Viper Competition Coupe

Jaguar XKR

Maserati Grandsport

There may be a couple of Australian Teams joining the field depending on car specifications....

Should be GREAT

GHEY!

The full grid of Aussie and NZ F5000 cars they were going to have would have been far more interesting than those fricking Euro-poof sports sedans.

Well thats what I think anyway.

well i reckon a field of 10 of the lastest top-end Euro sportscars on steroids would be far more interesting to watch than a couple of family cars in a race of 'lets see who can understeer the least'....

from what i hear 25 cars will be coming from Europe. I know of at leat 5 430 GT3's here in Australia. As well as the 997's from the carrera cup. Team Lamborghini Australia have also bought 2 Gallardo's to compete over here.

There is some talk of a SA based team with a Z06 corvette and an Australian DBRS9.......

Looks like the sports cars are going to be getting bigger over the next few years

We may have to wait a couple of weeks for the full announcement.

Aparently Bernie Ecelstone isn't happy with this. He and Stephane Ratel (owner of FIA GT series) don't see eye to eye. Bernie doesn't want the GT3 cars to support his series. Event organisers are back in negotiation.

hopefully they can sort this out

That "production car" ran a one off hand built 427ci engine very, very loosely based on a production motor. It was supposed to go into production, but as the retail price creept up past AUD 200,000 the entire project was canned.

It was already modded out of its mind and was never going to work in Aus. The hope had been that the Arabs would have taken them as Chey Lumina's.

The only part of this car that ever went into production were the trick rear Monaro type lights you often see fitted to VT/VY Commdores.

Funny, there was actually two monaros out there running 427... Everyone jumps up and down.

The needed amount were actually sold (Are in the UK). It's just like one of the cars that ran in the 24 hour bathurst, they sold 12 of it, and the thing was setup, so damn wide, that no one could really overtake it!

The 427 that ran, was yes, a MODIFIED C5 engine, renmaed as the C5R, and was due to be released in the HRT 427 being dual built by HSV and HRT, I know people who already had a $25 000 deposit down, the moment it was "announced" but it was later scrapped.

The second 427, was a stroked and bored 346CI V8, which DID come from that car originally (It was a bored and stroked Gen3)

But hey, everyone breaks/bends the rules, it just seems Holden get slagged off for it when they win, and if they don't, they get called heaps of shit. Just can't please you boys.

And the idea of the HRT 427 originally was as a race built car, put it on the track, go racing. But when the deposits for all 200 builds came in, they found out, most people wanted them for road use also, and HSV just couldn't get them to be legal, take the Harness for one, straight out illegal as it was a 5 point (Illegal on the road, maximum of a 3pt is legal)

The side intrusion bars were illegal. The exhaust system where it ran was illegal, it didn't meet road going emmisions. The fuel tank... Thousands of things needed changing to be road legal, hence, why it was canned, and the few that were built, were sold to the UK.

post the link on youtube once it's on! it'll be fun to watch...

Unfortunatly the 962 wasnt there. There were plenty of old classics there to make up for the 962 even Brocks red 427 Monaro. The 2 Fred Gibson R31's were there battling with the Walkinshaw VL's which was pretty good, a $3mil 1937 Talbolt, 1960's McLarens,F5000's.

I have 4 hrs of footage from all over the track due to media access so I will have something up in the near future.

The 962 and many others will be at Phillip Island in March for the Classic Phillip Island tribute to Porsche.

cheers

Add 2bar boost and it's a 427!!

I didn't catch up over the weekend, next time.I'll be at Plillip Island classic. I was busy over the track with the video camera. I just put together a short clip on the F5000's with more of the classes available soon.

I have some other clips as well.

GTR at Wakefield and the powerplay track day

MBS206 there were only TWO 427's made. The Monaro's racing over in the UK have the 5.7L chev V8 in them

thats what i thought, there are too many rumours going around.. anyway im pretty sure that there were two actually sold locally. one of them is owned by a guy who is on the torana forums, he has posted up close pics of all the different bits of the car it is definetly a 427. I also saw it in person at eastern creek when he brought it down to have a go a few months ago on a supersprint day. (i dont think he lives in NSW though)

Yeah, most definately mate! I didn't get their until quite late on the sunday afternoon either, and by the time I had watched the F5000's and had a walk around the pits it was pretty much all over, which was a shame, but a great day none the less.

I'll definately be at the PI classic, wouldn't miss it for the world.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
