wasnt able to get to the dyno today, so i had Jeff from The Speed Lab put my cefiro remap that was suited to the KKR 430 onto my r32, while not perfect its still better then running the stock map with this turbo.

the ceffy remap was tuned for 16-17 psi, but for safety until i get the car onto the duyno, im running 1 bar.

Im getting full boost at over 4000 rpm but before 4500. from then on it pulls extremally hard,

Comparing to my cefiro, which had 200 rwkw, this feels slightly quicker.

The downside is that offboost and while its trying to build boost down low in the rpm range its bloody slow lol.

BUT... I really am getting tired of driving a car that has a decent motor but crap turbo on it so it very well may see a vg30 max oversize slide turbo thrown on the side. See how things go. :(

I fail to see how you could go wrong.

Itd be a beast Im sure...... and Im positive itd be well worth the money and effort.

the KKR 430 is fine.. and if ytou read the above posts you'll see that at 200 rwkw the Slide turbo and the KKR are very similar in performance.. its over 200 rwkw that the Slide turbo starts to really shine. I didnt find the KKR430 very laggy once my car was tunned. Maybe your mate forgot this crutial part when he chucked the turbo on his car.

Aaron if you read this can you confirm where the turbos rated pressure is to be measured at? intake manifold or right after the turbo. and it 18psi right?

if you are really keen hook up a boost gauge at the turbo and at the manifold to find out what sort of efficency your running in your cooler and pipe arrangement.

ive only got a 1 psi drop overall. so my cooler and pipes are doing not too bad!.

The max efficiency and best overall boost pressure to run is 17-18psi.

The most reliable place to read boost from is the compressor housing however it is not accurate boost pressure as there will be pressure drop in the intercooler and pipework.

Having the boost reading just before before the cast alloy bend that goes over the cam covers is the best place to get the boost pressure from.

interesting to see that you guys are getting decent results with these highflow turbos.

as far as the rom editing is concerned ive tuned a few rb20's via flash chips and they work well...for real time tuning i have a motes ostrich emulator which is a steal at 175$usd for a good robust emulator that is usb driven not the old serial.

coupled with a software that monitors changes to a file and uploads them to the romulator on the fly, using romedit and having a wideband at hand we pulled substantial fuel out of my friends bpu'ed rb20 and it was a night and day diffrence.

on a stock rb20 fuel map the afr's would dive into the 10's, it was amazing the car ignited the mix as my personal car has problems when afrs get that low (but then again i run a MUCH larger turbo and lots more boost).

Nice little emulator there. I am guessing it doesn't have the real time trace though?

I had a good look around that site and I saw the sst 27SF512 chips. I 've been using those for ages. Great to not have to use the UV earasor anymore.

You have to be really careful using those chips. The ECU is capable of delivering voltage spike that is enough to flash certain parts of the map. This happened and I couldn't find the problem till I looked at the .rom and it was FF in parts of the VQ table and the fuelmap :0

Are you using 2 tunes on the one chip and a pull up resistor to switch? I am running this setup with a mechanic/wife/valet tune that only revs to 4000rpm. At the flick of a switch it becomes a 93rwkw shopping kart :huh:

Nah. If the 27fm256 chips were still being made I would have used them instead. My mates old R31 had the switch setup though and yeah he used it for the eact same thing you do.

I didn't realise how many people tune the stock ecu's these days. Its good to see.

Maybe we should all start a new thread for just eccs chip tuning? :)

That is a really good idea :) and put all the information in one place. I think there are about 20 users that tune stock ecu's

Really keen for this! perhaps we could even get a mini section on SAU to hold all the info and some .bin files?

(Mine has been chipped and tuned by DrDrift in the past, so would be interested to look into getting the equipment to do it, and how easy it is to do... not so much for myself, but if i rocked up at a tuner's workshop with the equipment and said "can you tune this" if they'd be able to do it?)

Yeah I'm the same mate.Not that the PFC is a bad ro anything but to me PFC route for the R32 is going to the dark side. :)

The stock ecu is a very good peice of gear if you know how to use it.

The PFC is just so easy to tune on road via its knock readout. I paid 1k for mine with h/c so not so bad. :)

The PFC is nothing more than an rb25 powerfc pro with a different flashed chip. Being an rb25 ecu you can see the mods they have done to make it suitable for the r32's wiring loom.

However.. I have been thinking about fiddling with a stock ecu.

I would love to talk to a few of you guys and see if I can fill in a few gaps that I am unsure on yet and of course visa-versa.

Cubes I did read that thread you had on the PFC for the Rb20, very interesting and its a worry that the minor changes they made are worth so much more than a normal unit.

The RB30 would work very well with the stock ecu I would think so yeah have a fiddle.

Yes the stock ecu will work well with the 3ltr.

Airflow is airflow.. The Rb30 does nothing more than shift a greater amount of airflow to a lower rpm.

not much from me, im trying to track down some injectors before i wind up the boost for more power.

I just wired a power feed + relay from the battery to the fuel pump also as reccommended by a few people as i was having lean out issues at high rpm on 205 rwkw on stock injectors, the injectors should be good for another 10-15 rwkw so not sure why the lean out there. Thought the walbro might be taxing a bit much power from the stock fuel pump wiring.

Plan is injectors, boost controller of somesort, Z32 afm and dyno, want around 230 rwkw.

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
