well thanks for deleting my other post

the explanation given for the dead turbo from ( forum sponsor ) was insufficient oil supply ( yeh right )

lines were ok he says as he made me send them but he blaming my engine which is the tightest rb20 anyone has every seen and has oil changes every 5,000klms and also uses slick 50

always an excuse on their behalf,,

asif the bearing didnt faill then there was lak of oil cos it was in my exhaust

so no warranty wat a suprise

after paying for the turbo waiting 8 weeks saying it was direct bolt on then the day i receive it a write an email sayin the wastegate did not seal was atleast 1-2mm gap from housing, his explanation oh after 2 or 3 power runs it will seal up yeh rite ! and that day then telling me my oil lines need modyfing wtf

everything was done correct everything, so lets blame the engine to void warranty, even thou the engine has never had 1 part fail ever and was running great until the turbo change..

what a sponsor hay

is there no offer of parts warrenty? im not sure of the condition of your motor etc, but i did remember u stateing that u went gcg and other turbos, all failed, now u put on a slide turbo and it failed also, the slide is the 3rd-4th turbo fitted, id be looking somewhere else also :), this is the first failure that ive read about on a slide turbo failing. im not taking sides, just giving an outsiders opinion

I think it only right for me to show the report given on the turbo in question.

I do not appreciate threats and public defamation.

This is the first failure of its kind in over 800 highflowed turbo's.

The only other failure on one of these highflows was a faulty thrust bearing and the turbo WAS covered under warranty for a member on this forum.

The cartridge journals are bronzed.

This tells me that at one stage there has been no oil surrounding the bearings and caused the shaft to spin the bearings with no oil in them and has sheered off a layer of metal from the bearings and bruised the inside of the cartridge.

The shaft is bruised and where the bearings lay you can clearly see in this picture that they are scortched.

cidg4gytkpip1.jpg

This is the result of no oil being fed into the bearings or could have been the result of reving the engine alot before the oil preasure has built up for the first time and starved the bearings.

There is also scoring on the shaft which would suggest dirty oil.

The bearings are scortched and bruised due to the lack of oil as you can see in this picture.

cidqobypai6frkw1.jpg

Both bearings are the same.

The Thrust is completely shattered and has spun.

This is caused by no lubrication.

The bearing oil collars are all fine so if the oil was being fed into the turbocharer there would have been no problem.

On all turbines we use a Z or zero gap oil ring.

This is purple in colour now and also sugests no oil lubrication.

The housings can still be used after a bit of machining but the entire cartridge setup has been destroyed with the wheels and shaft.

I would think that the only reason your current turbo is alive is that it is ball bearing and does not require great oil preasure to lubricate the bearings.

The failure of the turbo is not the cause of faulty internals or assembly of the turbocharger and subsequently not covered by warranty.

Postage of the item was paid for by myself and was specified to be delivered by registered post.

The repair costs of this turbo is $500

is this the third thread about the same issue now? your other threads where not deleted, they were closed. you were blamming the fail on th turbo before it was even tested

tightest rb20 anyone has every seen and has oil changes every 5,000klms

Everyone who is trying to blame an engine failure on some one else or some thing else always says there engine was the best and they took the best care of it blah blah blah. Sure you may have taken care of it, we cant prove you didnt.. But if this was all because of the turbo, why is yours the only one thats had a problem like this, I think all the feedback that has been given to slide in threads and in his feedback section shows that you cant sit there and blame him for this..

with the amount of money aaron has made from the quality and success of these turbos, i doubt hes trying to jip you for a lowsey $500...

Sorry, i really didnt want to have to say this, but.....

blaming my engine which is the tightest rb20 anyone has every seen and has oil changes every 5,000klms and also uses slick 50

Has it been rebuilt lately?

How do you know its "Tight"?

Motors fail. Thats life. And things break. Dont believe me?

I had an RB26DETT fail, which was warmed up and cooled down meticulously every time its driven by me and the last owner, and guess what? It wasnt showing ANY sign whatsoever of imminent failure before it happened. Engines dont last forever. Now you're probably going to tell us your car has a genuine 50,000k's or so, never thrashed, and was well looked after in Japen etc.

then telling me my oil lines need modyfing wtf

But i dont understand, you said at one point you were a paid mechanic?

Do you seriously not understand these things need PROPER lubrication to stay working unlike ball bearing?

everything was done correct everything,

You know how i know you're wrong there?

Your turbo is in bits, with burn marks from lack of lubrication, and there are over 800 working without issue.

Come on seriously, take a step back, you've had a number of turbos fail.....public slandering of the maker wont help you get this fixed.

as fot the other turbo failing this was 3 years ago on another car fitted by sum1 else so yeh

my car must be fair healthy to rev to 9500 every day on 17psi constantly and has done 60,000klms with me driving it this way

yes woh he bearing looks like its had lak of oil---how about the bearing was faulty crapped itself and had lak of oil due to it all going out my exhaust

no that couldnt be the reason

and $ is not the point all thou it was not $500

well if he is such a champ lets see if he refunds the postage as he says

and yes i would like my turbo back and my useless oil line as it will be going to bill from ats !

seems its ok to bag a person on here but not a sponsor hay

freedom of speech

only my miss fortune thou hay

pls send turbo back as i atleast get what i payed for and Consumer Affairs need me to get another report i dont care if they do nothing aslong as they are aware of this matter !

"my car must be fair healthy to rev to 9500 every day on 17psi constantly and has done 60,000klms with me driving it this way"

would it be as healthy as u think, if thats how u drive it?

seriously give up, u stuffed up plain and simple..consumer affairs lol what do u think there gonna say when YOUR turbo has been the ONLY one thats failed...ive been through them many times, i cant see them doing u any favours in this situation

ben...

^^^^ thats hilarious 60,000klms has not missed a beat was stating a point by it nor does it use any oil at all,,it has been rebuilt properly !

that aside omg i rev my car so it has no oil pressure for the turbo wtf a lame excuse seriously

and as for slander, well actually it cant be classed as slander on a public forum like this..

slander is only wen you do it in obvious public places eg. owning your own tinting business and on your adds and business cards saying "we are soo better then johns tinting"

the whole "slander" angle is used to scare people into not saying bad things about a company or product.

just like you going to consumer affairs and telling the company that you spoke to them, its just tryin to scare them.

seriously, get a legal dictionary and look up "slander / deformation of character"

i mean sure, they COULD take you to court for sayin stuff on here, but if you have even a half decent lawyer or judge, the case would be thrown out.

peace

that turbo has clear markings of oil starvation.

I had a turbo fail for exactly the same reason...

Cause, low oil pressure on the car, not enough oil to the turbo, turbo starvation and the blue marks on the shaft are a direct result of poor oil supply.

seems its ok to bag a person on here but not a sponsor hay

freedom of speech

Rubbish. No freedom of speech here mate.

Deform, awesome. I'd get deformed into a ninja! WOOT!

Also, slide does good work. Mate of mine got a highflow a while back. Hasn't missed a beat and his car looks stock.

It sounds like you didn't hook it it correctly, it's not a stock turbo and clearly states the extra work involved. Looks like you should just be quiet and deal with this in private as nobody here is going to support you.

    • I am getting the same issue. Did you resolve it? I just got it after installing my new super coppermix and literally the same issue, new fork, new 18mm carrier, release bearing that came with the kit and replicated the exact same sound.
    • If you like - I have the STL files so I can email em. There's a couple of gotchas (i.e the holes are not threaded so you might need/will need) to utilize some M3 melt-in threads for some of the points. However if you want to be super accurate, and are willing to remove your calipers and your SHOCKS it's a really good tool. You also might need to scale the part that measures the tyre width a bit wider. It defaults to a 7.5in tyre and I mean who is running that. Luckily with the magic of CAD this is very easy to rescale.
    • jeebus. glad you weren't under it while performing the stunt. Also thanks for the link to the wheel measurer, exactly what I needed
    • In the older stuff there were very significant differences 2wd to 4wd, for example Stagea had strut front end for 2wd and double wishbone for 4wd so it was not minor to swap. From poking around the 2wd v37, it *looks* like it might be more possible; some of the parts specifically have "2wd" stamped on them which suggests the platforms are more similar. You'd still want to start with a 4wd half cut to swap stuff from though. I'd suggest if you don't have a tune on the ECU you don't really need one on the trans either. Throttle mapping is in the ECU side (and you can always use a Roar Pedal if you want the throttle to actually respond to your foot), and really if you are happy with the stock power you probably accept the stock trans behaviour too....its all made to be "sporty" not racey.
    • So, updates. I have not washed the car since it came back from Tassie. I've driven it around a bit but not got around to actually sorting it out. I DID raise it because I cracked the rear bar leaving a hotel which was very distressing. Interestingly, the car drives more compliant now that it's raised a fair bit (5mm front, 15mm rear). Also noticed that my FR height was 10mm lower than FL. So that's now sorted out, too. I also bought this and had it printed: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1576422240/wheel-and-tire-fitment-tool-universal?ref=shop_home_feat_1&dd=1&logging_key=08f604d9fa4cc383550ba985e6ac85cd5cac7fbb%3A1576422240 Now, if I was smart I would have taken my brake calipers off to actually use this correctly but it was evident enough to me that in the region where the caliper was... there was nothing to hit suspension/guard/arm wise. So I'm going with "it'll be fine" after using the tool to hopefully very precisely measure the wheel clearance. Also while doing this, I had the very VERY bad idea of jacking one of the wheels/suspension arms up while the rest of the car was on jack stands. I did this to see how the arm would travel. This all was well and good until the car slid off the stands and went through a fence. So don't do that. Incredibly nobody was hurt and there was only minor damage to the rear bumper as the car didn't have far to slide, and had 3-4 wheels on it. The only damage turned out to be the fence itself which was easy to fix, and a little bit of damage to the fibreglass rear bumper trim. I had already planned to try a touch up paint kit to fix the time I drove into my garage door to see if it'd help in the interim before I get it fixed properly. I used the Dr Colorchip kit after looking online and seeing everyone talking about it. Yes it's made for chips and not huge broken missing pieces and I'll be 500% recommending it for stone chips after using it for stupid things like me. This took about ... 10 minutes and looking at the half assed photo the 30 second job I did on the bumper corner was almost perfect just by using the tiny little brush and painting it in. The sealact stuff to remove over-painting is really useful, so if/when I do it again I'll likely slather the touch up paint well over it and then clean it up with the cleaning solution. The wheels should arrive in a couple of weeks. I am still kinda confident after doing a stupid amount of measuring (and borrowing a set of 18x10.5+15) that they will not fit because I overlooked something, somehow and flew too close to the sun. ALSO R34 GTR guard liners do not fit on a GTT. I bought the undertray brake duct guides and had the wonderful problem of them not fitting my intake, my oil cooler and the liners themselves were even worse. Attempting to fit them won't work in general - You would have to cut them up as another poster mentioned as the bodywork is different on the GTT. At least I can try to resell them. So instead of cutting those up, I cut up my old already-cut-up GTT liners and extended them by using some PP plastic and drilling some 8mm holes for some nissan clips for the 'extra' bit. Because I was happy to cut them I was able to mount them pretty damn forward so I now have some semblance of guard liners, and the brake vents seal the bumper from the bottom. It sort-of-looks like this, to give some idea - If you look at the GTR and then the GTT this is when I realised that I needed to seriously measure as the inside of the rim area is entirely, entirely, entirely different and could not take any internet measurements for granted.
