if you want to get them home, just post them. rear plates are a bitch as they have the anti tamper seal on them. fronts are not so challenging though just normal 8mm bolts.

I highly doubt your stepdaughter is going to want to go around stealing (or trying to steal) plates off peoples cars though. and I really dont think it's a good idea. and that is the only way to get some. just like in aus.

nah, post them EMS in the middle of a magazine or similar. I dont think it will be an issue. or bring them in your luggage. the real issue would be aquiring them legally!

im pretty sure they would be picked up. all my packages get opened / looked at. shit even my mint aero bars got cut in half before i was allowed to eat recieve/ eat them.

if you want plates, (dunno why) but buy some already in aus. maybe a bit more expensive, but a lot easier.

Posting them in a magazine isnt going to make any difference at all.

yes it will make a difference, it will stop them getting bent. seriously do you guys really think australian customs is going to care about someone posting a numberplate? and even looking through the x-ray how would they tell if they are vanity plates or real plates or a wall ornament etc? Plus they would not bother opening a package that has a marked value of say 2,000yen and listed as contents: "car magazines" and "imitation drift number plate" or something. having received dozens and dozens of packages from japan i've yet to have 1 opened when sent by EMS, and with a declared value under the target limit. this includes all kinds of stuff, not just car parts.

Brining them back in luggage would be no problem either. Australian customs couldn't give a loud, wet fart about some aussie J-fan bringing back a number plate that for all they know could be fake, real or "other".

anyway, it's a moot point. the problem is obtaining them easily in the first place.

I have seen people selling them on ebay before for silly money. Like $100 each. ouch.

What about going to a junkyard or breaker? I have absolutely no clue where any of them are located, but possibly there might be some sitting around there that you might convince someone to sell you. However, it might take a real effort, a lot of time, and money so I'd say just be happy the replica plates most people usually buy.

yeah, some wreckers may have some. basically if a car fell out of shaken and was sold straight to a wrecker and they didn't bother to de-register it they 'could' theoretically still have the plates. they may give you one if you were nice. ;)

generally though they would hand them in at de-reg time as I think they give you a small fine or something for not returning the plates.

i got my genuine jap plates off ebay for $28.50 (a pair)

was very lucky because no one bid on it except me lol.

anyway before that i asked most jap wreckers and they all replied me with no they dont have any jap plates and they are illegal

      Nah that is not actually a lot. Just painting my GTR frontend and the little bits to make sideskirts/nismo flare pieces work correctly/fit on the sedan/mount up correctly came to about $7000. Is it a lot? Sure. None of this is economical. Economy would be shelling the car and buying a 2010 Corolla to commute in. The perspective of all of this is different.

      I don't see any issues here. I've been saying all along this is a big job, the price reflects that.  When the car comes back perfect I'm sure it will feel like money well spent.

      So, I started this repair and got as far as "fixing" the holes with some fibreglass. God all those years working on boats came back quickly. I decided I'd reach out to some rust guys just to see what they would say about it. I came across a guy about 40 mins away and went to see him. He said the windscreen needs to come out, that there might be some more bits around the windscreen and he'd quote them at the time. But his quote was $300 to remove and replace windscreen and $3k for the damage he can see. He said he could respray the roof for $1200 and the bonnet for another $800 (somebody has previously rattle canned it, its horrendous). This is $5300 + any small additional bits. It's a lot, I get that and the name of one of my fave youtube channels 'Not Economically Viable' comes to mind.  I'm not being financially rational, but I've taken him up on the quote. He's opening a new shop in November with more room, so we're waiting for that. I'll leave the currently missing headliner out until then. I'm looking forward to it being fixed and having the paint looking nice again (lots of clear coat issues on the roof too). / flame suit on.
