my car, completely stock as it left the factory dyno'd in at 97kw @ wheels on sst's dyno, with just one of jash's cat back CRAP exhausts I went to 115kw's. With a trust fmic, blitz dual sbc set to 12 psi I've gone to 175kw, used the same dyno everytime. given that the runs were done on different days, different air temps etc etc etc... it gives me a rough idea of my gains for money spent. My dump+front pipe are letting me down though, as my car drops boost immediately around 5500rpm, doesnt tail off just drops straight down to 9psi. dump+front pipe are next on the mod list.

Rob,

Very low figures for a healthy stocky (97rwkw) on the "average" Dyno Dynamics dyno. I'm guessing you'd be the guy that wrote in to HPI asking Martin, why so low?

175rwkw with your current mod's sounds about right. From 97rwkw to 175rwkw (78rwkw for the lazy) from an exhaust, FMIC & a bit of extra boost. Something wasn't right with the car to start with. Very restritive &/or blocked cat? I witnessed a heavily tweaked GTS25t go from 219rwkw to 282rwkw after nothing more than the removal of its nasty compliance fitted cat & cat back section.

Yeah, I would say the stock exhaust was very restrictive and was really keeping the boost low (we didnt measure the boost on the dyno run or the A/F ratio when we did the 97kw run) now at 175kw the car runs rich to start with but by the end of the run its getting a tad lean and yes that was me who wrote into HPI. I still have the very small cat on the car from compliance, I may end up putting a hiflo 3" unit in one day, but I'll be doing my front+dump pipe first.

Whatsis oh whatever, you have been on our WA area all day, is it boring in the SA one?

Of coarse you are welcome, don't take me the wrong way, I am not Paul or Maccka!

Whatsisname too hard to spell? ;) I bet you say whatsisname more than you realise. Everybody that you can't remember the name of is called 'whatsisname':D Whatsisname is also the name of a character in the Magic Faraway Tree, for those old enough to remember the book/s.

WA, NSW, SA, VIC, TAS... I peruse them all. I've lived in most states of OZ I don't consider any of them as my home state, they're all home!

I'll often leave the PC still logged onto a particular forum section too. So I'm 'on', but not there. Opposite to my brain most days, it's there but not 'on'.

If there's nothing happening in the SA forum then it does indeed get boring.

Cheers,

Matt

Rob/Steve,

Yeah thought the cat would've been a big factor.

Dave,

Sorry to postwhore so badly ;) Getting back on topic.....

My guess is 196.83rwkw

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
