The wiggle up top is because of the 4wd.

Wow thats quiet an increase....

Your right about the cams but you have to get the correctly match turbo for the engine's intensions.

I've only ever seen thoes sorts of gains with n2o in place.

Ok so I take it you won't tell us the specifics... but how about something general -

1) These types of gains, or even something "similarly comparable", are they "available" across the board provided you have some sort of hardware under the bonnet?

2) What should people take into consideration when making their "cam selection"?

3) What made you guys change from the old ones?

bout time paul :)

i dont want to speculate on the specs, so cant u just put us out of our miserie please :) (or just the big 2, engine capacity and turbo selection, or r u still running what u had planeed originally?)

We have have seen a silimar phenomena when fitting a larger inlet cam.

By going from a 264 to a 272 duration on the inlet and spending more time on the dyno adjusting cam timing, we were able to achieve earlier boost response, significantly better top end AND at a lower boost pressure. Both cams are now 272 STEP 2 HKS items.

Other specs as per the RB26 Turbo Upgrade Sticky

another related weird power issue that i witnessed was with mark jacobson's car at autosalon, on an early run he wasnt making the power he thought the car had, so he played with the cam timing abit and on the next run picked up 200hp :)

i dont want to pull the head off so can jam bigger sticks in there

yes you do, remember u were just itching to get it off

i guess we have to wait til tomorrow for paul to post in here. oh how the wait is going to kill me :)

P.S i'll have a guess and say there in the vacinity of 10.xx lift and 27x duration, am i right? :)

Man thats so much difference it looks like it was done in 2 different gears.

Definately no funny business like that going on...ill make that quite clear.

But yes the result shocked even the builder and tuner.

Bigger than that :(

who said it was my engine...or car ?

while some would have been happy with the original result (BTW this is pump fuel and no NOS) , the end result was achieved due to the effort by the boys at Croydon's. Truely world class...

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
