Braking from high speed alone is not enough to induce flat spots on tyres.

If you're braking too hard and you manage to lock the wheels, then you'll get flat spots.

You could try and fit ABS to the car, but a better and cheaper idea might be a driver training course.

lol, no amount of driver training will help where abs will.

flat spots are caused by fully locking it up, you shouldnt be braking like that unless its an emergency

steve

Its all about driver training. Flat spotting tyres is difficult (not impossible) if you drive properly.

The secret to fast track laps isnt about puting the accelerator down, its about using the brakes properly. I amy be wrong, but I dont think any serious track cars use ABS, a good driver is better than the ABS computer at this stage.

1. Learn to read the traffic, so you don't create emergencies.

2. Learn threshhold braking

I have yet to get myself into a situation on the street where I have had to activate the ABS.

what he said

in my 10 years of driving I never ever had ABS and never got in the situation where I needed one

As said in the 2 above, its all about driver training.

DONT TAILGATE and give yourself time to brake if the car infront of you locks up for no reason.

Well mine's a 97 model & it doesn't have ABS. Biggest issue with not having it I've found it braking in the wet, not so easy the water doesn't cover the road evenly (& lets face it very few roads are that regular) which is partly why I'm going to be putting some top grade tyres on this time round to help compensate. I've always been a pretty good under brakes, but I've got caught out once & that's enough for me.

Any upgrade in performance to the car (well tuned suspension & brakes) as well as upgrading your skills is always going to be a great help. Having said that I still would like to fit ABS to mine, just for that extra peace of mind. No matter how high your skill, there is no replacement for something far more failsafe like ABS in my opinion.

    • When you crank your car, and hit it with a timing light, can you see a steady crank timing?
    • Oh, forgot to add, A few months ago I was getting mixture codes and the car was using crap loads of fuel. You could smell the unburned fuel in the exhaust, it was crazy strong. Economy was over 17.5 l/100 and usually around 19. I smoked the engine and found a leaky CCV hose which I replaced and then I replaced my two pre cat O2 sensors, I also replaced the MAF. This fixed my mixture codes and improved my exonomy but I'm still 14 - 15 l/100 when pottering about town so something is still amiss. Throttle response is much better and it has more pep but I'd like to know why it's still so thirsty (and I'm hoping that whatever it is gives me a bit more poke).

    • Hello all, currently finishing up a rb25 swap into my s14. Having issues with starting, car has spark (confirmed by pulling a plug and watching it spark), has fuel(confirmed by checking pulse/voltage at injectors all spark plugs are soaked in fuel). Car cranks over and pops into the exhaust with a heavy fuel smell but no attempt to start or run, I have torn the timing cover off and triple confirmed timing, turned the CAS in multiple spots both directions, attempted to start with coolant temp and maf unplugged, checked my fuel lines and made sure they weren’t backwards, checked voltage at cas/injectors/coilpacks, made sure all the grounds in the harness are connected and added a few grounding straps (1 from chassis to block, 1 from chassis to head, and 1 from chassis to igniter chip) I am getting stumped here. As a last ditch effort I made a full grounding harness tonight that’s going to run from the battery and add an extra ground from the battery onto the coil pack harness/igniter chip/ intake manifold/ Wiring specialties harness ground/ and alternator. I’m hoping maybe the grounding harness will fix it here but posting here to see if anyone has any other ideas on what else I can check. My fuel pressure is unknown right gauge will be here tomorrow.  IMG_3206.mov
